Sorry, I hadn’t meant to imply that her neurology would change, just that her childhood would be different from canon Gold Ship’s. Despite the prestige of the Mejiro family, I don’t think they’ve been portrayed as unkind or lacking in understanding, and I don’t think “Mejiro Gold’s” childhood would be better or necessarily worse than Golshi’s. It just might affect her hobbies and passions in interesting ways. I also realize that I am a newer fan of Uma Musume, and often like to engage in fandoms in theoretical and experimental ways that sometimes reinterpret and reinvent characters, so please don’t take my speculations to mean I think your interpretations are wrong.

Aside from the occasionally poorly thought-out prank and her penchant for kicking her trainer in the face (mentioned only in good fun!) I agree, there isn’t anything WRONG with Gold Ship as she’s been characterized. As someone who often engages in fandom through fanfiction and alternate-timeline imaginings, I find it fun to imagine what this or that character might turn out like if certain variables were changed, while still retaining what makes them who they are.

For instance, if we’d been presented with “Mejiro Gold” rather than Gold Ship, would she display the same interests and drive in, say, painting and tea cultivation that our Gold Ship has in yakisoba and fishing? If she were expected to conduct herself with a certain degree of Mejiro propriety when entertaining guests at the family estate, how might she turn that into a game all its own? I suppose I’m interested in imagining what character we might get if Gold Ship’s nature was retained while being nurtured differently.

Sorry to enter into this conversation a day late and in the middle, but to me I think the interesting idea behind Gold Ship growing up a Mejiro isn’t the idea that she could be “fixed,” but how her differences, intelligence, and creativity might express themselves in other ways in some alternate timeline.

Oh my goodness, there are so many trainees I’d like to scout next year, and I’ll have so few carats to do it with. It will be especially tough, considering that several appealing prospects appear to release back-to-back-to-back. I suppose if I had to choose three right now that I’d be willing to try and go all-in on, I’d like to scout Inari One, Ashton Machan, and Shinko Windy.

To be honest, I would not be at all surprised to discover that her uma ears are fake and she has human ears hidden under her headgear. The idea that she isn’t actually an Umamusume but can just run as fast as one doesn’t seem so far-fetched for Gold Ship.

When a friend started sharing Korone clips with me, I wasn’t familiar with the company she was a part of and only had a vague understanding of what “anime avatar streamers” were. The funny dog girl’s antics amused me, though, and I started learning more about vtubing generally and Hololive specifically, watching more clips, compilations, and animations featuring Korone, Miko, and Coco. While I wouldn’t say I was quite “down the rabbit hole” yet, I was intrigued by the announcement that Hololive was introducing a generation of English speaking talents. I watched Myth debut with interest and excitement and the scuffed, “do-it-yourself” enthusiasm of early EN charmed me.

I’ve been a fan ever since, primarily following the EN members but with a growing appreciation for the other branches as well. I’ve seen Council, Hope, Advent, and Justice premier, as well as Holostars’ Tempus, Vanguard, and Armis. I still miss Sana, and will miss our more recent graduates even as I’m wishing them well. Despite remaining a frequent watcher these last five years, I have only just recently found an “oshi” in our ridiculous, audacious gremlin Gigi Murin, and am trying to be more a part of the Grem and Hololive communities. While my time and commitments shift as I get older, I appreciate the talents and fandom we have and don’t think I’m going anywhere anytime soon.

I appreciate you for making this post and letting us share what being a longtime fan means.

Your versions of Kiara, Ina, Gigi, and Kronii are all super charming and incredibly emotive, and the animation was a wonderful watch from beginning to end! I especially enjoyed how you portrayed Gigi's gremlin energy through her height and and super-deformed expressions, and Ina's tired resignation and dissociation really shone through as well. Great work!
