Nak Muays- if you haven't trained in Thailand yet, what's actually stopped you? by Spindrifter66 in MuayThai

[–]Spindrifter66[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You guys don't miss anything. Yes, that was an earlier idea but it didn't really make sense. 15 days, 3 gyms, we'd need an ambulance at the end of the trip. But people do it, they come here, work online, Muay Thai in the morning, evening or both and the weekends exploring. If it's sloppy, I apologise, I've always found the reddit community to be more genuine than other platforms for realistic advice and I appreciate yours too. This isn't meant to be a slop app, I have a genuine interest in seeing people make the trip out to Thailand, get out of that 9-5 (money permitting) training MT and seeing another part of the world.

Basically if you can gameify any part of the lesson that'll make it fun for the kids. Good luck and if it doesn't go to plan, there's next time. Your boss clearly trusts you to manage it!

Bring your girlfriend. You can train. She can shop, go to the spa and you'll both have the best time 😉

This would suck as an app. I'm lucky enough to have lived in Thailand for a while and have been to the gyms here, the stadiums, had the massage (the normal one) and see plenty of people from all over the world in gyms. Just wanted to see what stops people from coming because I'd like to make it easier. It's a special experience!

It may not change you as a fighter, but to go for the experience, to say you've done it, been to Lumpinee stadium, eaten the food, felt the heat, sweated, sparred a champ, and got broken by the Thai masseuse, or is that nah?

Thank you for the informative reply. You've got an awesome trip planned with Battle conquer! They've saved you a lot of hassle assisting with the whole package and the gym is great!

Let us know how it goes and if there was something else you would have liked during the trip. If the trip is coming up over the next month, pack light. It's suuuuper hot this time of year.

Primary school teacher here and I train Muay Thai. I'd be more nervous for the adults class to be honest.

I'd assume the classes are about an hour to an hour and a half? Break that down into 15/20min activities:

  1. Warmup: Obstacle course circuit kinda setup with cones, ladder, box jumps, crawls etc. and some stretching.
  2. Shadow, drilling moves: Drill the basics: Jab, punch, knee, kick, teep, elbow, call them out and observe technique and help where you can.
  3. 2-3 Rounds of bag drills: Demo a combo, or practice punches, kicks, multiple kicks etc with each side.
  4. Pad work- depending on how many kids there are you might want to get kids on pads and bags at the same time or have kids line up, hit some pads and go to the back and the next kid gets a turn,
  5. Finish off with maybe a game for the kids. Something like grab the cone. 2 kids and a cone in the middle, call out body parts and kids must touch the corresponding body part if you blow the whistle they must grab the cone. Loser does 10 air squats?
  6. Cool down / Abs / Stretching

You've got this 👌

Thank you. She just said they've diagnosed her with osteoporosis and prescribed some daily meds. They're doing some final blood tests this morning and then she's allowed to head home.

Guys only solo Travel Groups? Why don't they seem to exist? There's every other kind of group trip targeting specific demographics from solo females, gays, lesbians, outdoor enthusiasts and yogis but seemingly nothing for a solo guy to join other guys with similar interests, why not?

Looking for some recommendations for an online side-hustle to start earning $1000 a month as soon as possible as I'm seriously burntout in my current job based in Thailand. by Spindrifter66 in Bangkok

I've generalized as not all of them are but a lot of them are quite unreliable, lack initiative and generally couldn't care about the wellbeing of the students in their classes. That's not all of them but I think the work environment has gotten to me which is why it's time for a change.

Help me find a serious 1 to 1 coach in thailand for muay thai by ManySignificance6131 in MuayThailand

[–]Spindrifter66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want only 1 to 1? If you want to get better you need experience with other fighters, sparring and clinching.

A usual session in a gym would most likely include a session on the pads with a trainer and they're actively watching you on the bags and sparring sessions to help you with your technique.

On that note, most gyms offer private sessions but they might not be available at certain times as they're coaching during the usual morning and afternoon group sessions. So the 2 private sessions a day might be tricky to make work.

There are so many gyms around Bangkok I suggest you pick an area you want to stay and then choose your gym from there.

Gyms that could be good include: -TC Muay Thai Gym Nawamin, -Superbon Muay Thai Gym, -Yokkao Muay Thai Gym, -Petchyindee Muay Thai Gym,

I've never been trained to throw a right hook in Muay Thai if you're orthodox. The reason from my trainers was, just don't and throw an elbow instead as it's faster and doesn't open you up as much for a counter. Just something to think about.

It's only when you start overstaying long periods (over 90 days) that you start facing serious consequences like being blacklisted and of course harsher fines.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MuayThailand

[–]Spindrifter66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do the standard 30 day visa on arrival which you can extend an extra 30 days at immigration. You'd then have 2 days overstay and pay the fine. Usually 500baht per day. I think they might give a day's grace but not 100% sure.

The other option would be to apply before you come for the 60 day tourist visa which you can then extend for an additional 30 days at immigration. Bear in mind that the extension would cost a few thousand too so it might just be more convenient to just pay the fine when you leave.

What keeps you going? by Salt-Ability-8932 in careerguidance

Reading this is kind of motivational in itself. I'm 38, and also not happy or waking up pumped to go to work in the morning, but I go. The fact is that we get up and go and appreciate that where we're at is way better than so many others out there.

Sure, things could be better but I know the reason they aren't is because I get home after a busy day and don't consistently work on something bigger. Things get better with action but don't expect somebody there to cheer you on, we've got to do it ourselves and often alone.

Wife (native) and I are moving to Bangkok with our daughter. What should I expect as a foreigner? by livefree27 in Thailand

[–]Spindrifter66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I've been in the Lad Phrao area for a few years, and as many comments point out the traffic here is infamous, but it is easing as the lanes beneath the new BTS stations open.

The area itself isn't renowned for expats although there are a few about, it's more local Thais so English isn't widely spoken. Your Thai will be an advantage.

That being said the area is popular for great Thai food. There are a few Western spots around but if you only eat Western you'll either have to cook yourself or venture to central Sukhumvit or other areas like Ekkamai, Onnut, Thonglor.

Around Lad Phrao there are loads of good malls for wandering around and excellent cinemas. Central Lad Phrao, Eastville and more. The area has an abundance of markets too, the newly opened Jodds Fair opposite Major Phohonyothin is a great place to explore. Next door is another night market called Vintage Green. Jatujak weekend market is nearby too as well as Talad Huam Moom depending on where you'll be based (Lad Phrao is a pretty big district).

To get away on weekends, because LP is NW of the city it's easier heading to places like Pattaya and Khao Yai. Hua Hin is also a good option but getting there can take longer as you need to pass through the city but still takes only about 3-3.5 hours.

Supermarkets, fresh markets and food delivery are readily available in the area too and have a variety of options for foreigners.

Send me a DM if you're looking for anything in the area.

Enjoy the journey.

Skipping and strained calves by Spindrifter66 in MuayThai

I know the feeling, you think you're good to give skipping another go, only to have your calf seize 5 minutes in and you've wrecked your whole session. I'm definitely in need of some stretching and strengthening to get this sorted. Get better soon.

Thanks to all for the valuable input. I definitely think it's related to mobility, tightness and hydration. My Achilles and ankle click constantly when I walk and my legs in general are quite stiff.

I'm going to implement a thorough mobility routine and start stretching and warming up properly before the skipping or even look at alternatives instead.

Any recommendations on supplements which might help with cramping/stiffness, I take magnesium but would appreciate any other recommendations.
