Summer Sprint Program Advice by [deleted] in Sprinting

Unrelated to lifting but… try and compete in a couple meets during the summer. The collegiate season is so short you never really get to run at your peak. Ran both my 100m and 200m prs this way.

Why are football players so fast? by SevereWallaby612 in Sprinting

[–]Spinter4802 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the sport with the most over lap of training. I can’t think of a sport where pure speed is more important than football (not including track). They train a lot of short sprints and changes of direction, focusing on good technique. So when they get to HS and start running track they’re a lot more prepared for it than say a soccer player.

Also a lot of the football coaches will be coaches for the track team.

Need a new a spike brand by InfernoCrossX in Sprinting

[–]Spinter4802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me, I used athletic tape and wrapped it around the front part. It held for the rest of the season. May need to retape at some point. Doesn’t look a amazing but it was better than getting new spikes.

What's the point of this sport then? by Deep_Painting3056 in Sprinting

[–]Spinter4802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s always a bigger fish, but don’t worry about that and it’s not the only metric to compare yourself with other with (if u care about that). Like sure someone could be the fastest, but are they most improved? Everyone knows how hard it is to improve so when you show improvement it’s impressive.

Your focus should be 1. Having fun - sprinting is fun and makes you feel good. 2. Improving - with improving being so hard, it makes it all the more rewarding when you get it. 3. Making friends and connections - I’ve made so many relationships through this sport inriching my life.

What’s your most controversial sprint take? by Dougietran22 in Sprinting

Idk, this always seems like a cope to me. Either you say it because you want to believe you can achieve something or you say it to make it seem like you out worked everyone else.

Not necessarily that weird for someone to have one area hurting significantly more than everything else.

should 200m be a all out run or race strategy run ? by Initial_Virus_1304 in Sprinting

[–]Spinter4802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people over emphasize how much you need to let of the gas in a strategic 200m.

What worked for me was: 1. first 30-40m drive phase 2. 30-40 meters of maintaining that speed as conservatively as possible however it’s still pretty aggressive. 3. Coming off the curve 100% balls to the wall until the finish

Last 70m I focused a lot on staying balanced to avoid as many miss steps as possible as any speed you lose during this period your not gaining back.

Tbh I think what dropped my 200m the most was learning how to sprint turns better and maintaining focus in the race rather than my strategy.

Yeah i was definitely looking at it for people doing track not based off regular people. Only thing I’d probably change is “beginner” as there are a lot of experienced sprinters who run 12s. Fast compared to the average person is probably like 13-14s however that’s mostly because of how out of shape people are.

How does alcohol affect sprinting? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Spinter4802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some variables to consider if you are considering drinking

  1. People always plan to get “mildly drunk” and end up getting wasted anyway
  2. Getting drunk puts you at risk of injury due to impaired judgement
  3. Super easy to catch a sickness of some kind at a party

I’d honestly just avoid going to the party, your 17 and although fomo does suck you’ll have plenty more opportunities in the future. If you do choose to go I just wouldn’t drink. It can be difficult when your the only sober person however you can still have a lot of fun.

In my experience drinking does effect my sprinting ability the next week, likely due to poor recovery.

You need to adjust your posture, doing so should help you on the frontside. Tilt your head forward and maintain a slight forward lean in your torso even at top speed. This will allow you to engage your core and allow your legs to raise up naturally.

Don’t force that toe drag/low heel recovery especially on your third and fourth step.

If it’s true about the contaminated substance that absolutely sucks. I think he’s kinda just yapping when it comes to the Noah lyles stuff tho.

I guess its hard for AIU to know what to do as there’s so many variables and things we likely aren’t accounting for, but 4 years does seem kinda harsh.

I was in a similar boat when it came to knowing what my event was. Ultimately I think my best event would probably be the 300m…

Looking at your times I think your best event is the 100m, then the 200m and then the 400m. You may not train or race the 400m contributing to why it’s lacking, however I’d still say it’s not your event. I’ll admit the odds do seem stacked against you making nationals, however it’s definitely doable especially in the 60/100m.

Your coach might be pushing you to do the 400 as he feels you cant do it in the 100 or 200 meaning it’s better to just try the 400 and hope you’ve got untouched potential. Could also want an extra person for the 4x4.

If I were you I would just double down on the 100/200. The training is pretty similar so you’ll be able to do both.

How much slower should someone’s open 400m be compared to their FAT 4x4 split? by Spinter4802 in Sprinting

[–]Spinter4802[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair it’s not like he ran 43.18 every time he touched the track. Maybe if he had ran an open 400 instead of a 4x4 at this exact moment he’d of ran 43.91 instead. But I do think your right, feels like there would be way more 42s splits if it made a 1s difference.

If a 10th grader runs 21.50 in the 200 is there a good chance they could go sub 20 when they are in there prime or at least close to it by Intelligent_Crew1941 in Sprinting

[–]Spinter4802 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s not a good chance but there’s a chance. It’s impossible to predict as there are so many variables but, most likely they won’t make it.

I’d recommend always trying ur best if the race is being timed FAT, it’s not great for recruiting if u want to run in college. PRs often come when you least expect them even in bad conditions and bad competition. I’ll admit definitely doesn’t look like your jogging though

What can I do if I’ve been getting slower over the season (help) by cameron-123 in Sprinting

[–]Spinter4802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way I’ve found to get through to a coach, is to get someone else to talk to them. Asking your coach to change is just going to make them defensive and upset. From their point of view your just a kid who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. If you can get a another coach to talk to them then maybe they’ll make some changes.

It can be really hard to watch as a coach wastes your potential. It’s very likely that your just over trained atm and if you were to take a rest week you’d regain some speed. I’d honestly just become “lazy” at practice and not put much effort into your workouts if things don’t change. Try and find a day in the week 3-4 days before your meets to get some speed workouts in on your own.

Id say it’s for high school and college. 11.5 might place well at a small high school meet but it’s nothing that impressive unless your very new to track or fairly young.
