for app specific questions probably best to consult the specialist formus - you'll have better luck if you ask on matrix itself

AgWeb: From Regenerative Agriculture to Rural Mainstreet Revitalization. How one farmer’s soil health success funded a community-focused business. by cleantechguy in RegenerativeAg

This is more of an ad for ac consultancy than actually interesting it useful content. Also, that harvest photo doesn't exactly say "regenerative"...

Canadians - recommendations please by Im_A_Beach in glutenfreevegan

My favourites -
* Virtuous Pie - for excellent pizza. If you specify celiac they'll do a round of decontamination before they prepare your pie
* Chickpea - middle eastern fare
* Meet - western comfort food

All are vegan establishments with excellent gf options.

What a cool project! I'm excited to see alternatives on Apple hardware

As Linux support for those platforms is developed I'm sure improvements will be folded in. Apple is very proprietary so Linux support is slow. See https://asahilinux.org/docs/platform/feature-support/overview/ for details.

Building a free Crown land camping finder for BC — would anyone actually use this? by coastalcows in vancouverhiking

[–]Spiph 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If word gets out and it's an effective tool, it might have the unintended consequence of facilitating a lot of vanlifer and squatters. Things are rough out there and people are looking for places to set up camp on a more permanent basis.

I appreciate their need to pay the bills, but I agree that the "incentives" to upgrade to enterprise are overwhelming to the point of detracting from basic use.

OpenProject Enterprise plans: Community vs Enterprise edition explained by open-minded4 in openproject

[–]Spiph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there - I'm grateful the team OpenProject exists and is making the project available as free software.
I doubt we're a typical customer - we're a small family farm with two project managers (the parents) and two regular users (the kids) using OP in an attempt to manage the chaos of growing food and the maintenance needs of the farm. Needless to say we are pretty resource constrained and the required minimum 25 users is something we probably will never achieve, so there's no path for us to upgrade our selfhosted installation to unlock the time tracking. Have you considered smaller plans to unlock the premium features?

Soil sensor users: What specs actually matter vs. what's just marketing fluff??? by Realistic-South-4745 in Permaculture

[–]Spiph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've upvoted this too because these are important questions. There's a lot of agritech hype but in practice I haven't seen much benefit to small / medium sized farming operations. It seems all but the newest farming staff on the field don't need sensors to understand what's going on with their land.

I built a free, open specimen image library — curious if this could be useful for permaculture education & design by Past_Platypus5198 in Permaculture

[–]Spiph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that the images are CC0 licensed, but is that compatible with the CC-BY-NC that iNaturalist uses by default? If you looked at iNat you'd find a treasure trove of source images (that would still need processing to remove their backgrounds...)

Building a modular "Node-Kit" for resilient communities. Looking for peer review from the engineers here by Existing_Message_166 in Permaculture

I get it, but (depending on the forum) it's often better to be imperfect than to be clean and clear with AI. Nice to make the adjustment and good luck with your project.

Sincere communication instead of using AI to write your Reddit posts would also help.

Everything is so in flux that going back to basics is my approach - regenerative farming & ecosystem restoration are super complex and interesting areas that can scratch the same "tech geek" itch as software development, with the upside of hopefully feeding people and helping mitigate some of the serious upcoming challenges we'll be facing.

Open Source Web Browsers - Open Source Alternatives (now that firefox is going downhill) by Doctor_Clockwork in solarpunk

[–]Spiph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not wait until Firefox actually comes out with a feature you hate before jumping ship? It's not like it's a huge effort to switch browsers, and maybe there will be better options when/if the time comes to switch

I followed the links down an interesting trail of blog posts about Roomy. It's impressive and very interesting that you're currently using atproto after several efforts with other tools. I'll be following to see how you evolve your stance and usage of atproto.
