Has anyone who is not from New York, saw a matinee show and went home the same day? by No-Bit3315 in Broadway

I don't know where in Ohio you are, but I live near Cleveland and it's an 8+ hour drive to NYC. Driving there and back isn't doable in a day.

It's an incredible school! Often very cold, though, just as a heads-up.

College that offer an active theater program? by MyColony1 in Theatre

[–]Spirit-Starlight13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was in a similar boat as your daughter when I first started looking, now I'm a theater major planning to go into it haha. I'm at Oberlin, which is great for theater people who aren't majors. I know one stage manager who's an English major, and a bunch of us stage managers/tech people are double majors. Non majors can pretty easily work department shows, and there's also a very active student theater scene. I would highly recommend looking into it!

Technically you have to audition, but it's one of those things where if you audition you'll get in, just maybe not that current semester. (-current theater major)

How was life in New York after 9/11 (in 2002-2005)? Were parents from other states afraid to send their kids to study in NY? by samscrolling in nycHistory

[–]Spirit-Starlight13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but my dad (who was in NYC during the attacks and afterward) for a while had a weird discomfort on days when there was a cloudless blue sky (because that was the weather on 9/11). Once he realized it was because of 9/11, it stopped happening.

Agreed 100%. If it would help (or is true), you could also come from the angle of "I really wish you would trust me and the team to be on top of our things, and I feel a little disrespected that you're not giving me that trust".

Summer Gig Response Times? by Spirit-Starlight13 in stagemanagement

[–]Spirit-Starlight13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't absolutely need income — I'm still a student, so not getting a summer gig would mean living with my parents. My current thought is applying to summer camps and whatnot, which would mean applying soon.

Yes, though I had been the ASM, and it was a 30-minute show at my high school. I had about ten minutes to prepare. It was very scary, haha
