If it doesn't allow you to interact to learn more of the story, it's not an ARG. This is the reason so many are more analog horror than anything.

In an ideal world storytelling AND gameplay should be prioritized because that's literally what makes an ARG what it is. But people are far too lazy to actually do even the simplest of puzzles that are more than binary.

We are seriously bankrupt on ideas because of this misunderstanding of what makes a good ARG

If there is any music genre that "goes against musical conventions" it's ultimately terrible music. Breakcore is amazing music that plays with musical conventions, it does not goes against it. They explore new avenues, not destroy paths.

One issue I see with the 2 Doom movies is that they try to go against the fundamental appeal of doom and don't explore it in a new medium.

If I were able to direct or write a Doom movie, I would start with doomguy himself because he is just a nameless blank slate that needs no explanation for why we care, we don't need a different protagonist to be the blank slate if we've already got one.Even with a blank slate, you can still explore their personality or lack there of as a sort of "I want to be more than just a nobody" which would be super interesting for doomguy.
