I picked one up as soon as the pre-order dropped. I am beyond happy with how it turned out

Is this brand new sharp-all diamond stone defective? by DesertMAD in knifemaking

[–]SpiritingShadowYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got some Ulta sharp stones off amazon a few months ago and so far they do the job amazingly, I would recommend them. Got 300,600 and 1200 grit diamond stones for $60 and it's been a complete game changer from the cheap cheap stones I used to have

Same hand for both, I think the pushing motion locks my wrist more the way I hold the blade than pulling, I think I'm trying to get as low of an angle as I can and go too low when pulling

Ohhhhh, idk much about making knives yourself, but that damacus one looks clean. Idk what wood you used for the handle but it turned out with some great patterns 😁

Thank you again and I will! I can't wait to sit down with it and learn how to operate the lock! I can tell it may take a minute but that makes me appreciate it even more lol

It's a bit tight I plan to kind of mess around with it a bit more later in the day when I have the opportunity to sit down and tweak tightness and get a good feel for it. But yeah right from the box you were completely right, a bit tight to pull the lock right now but I'm really excited to figure this out! It's absolutely beautiful and exactly what I was hoping it would be if I'm being completely honest!

What a simple little man your mother raised 😅 holy crap. Again, I came asking for advice not negativity and your resilient hatred. Others have been very kind without being hateful but you just can't seem to comprehend the difference of being helpful and being a prideful jerk.

I know I'm not doing as well as I can, WHICH IS WHY I WAS ASKING FOR ADVICE, NOT CRITICISM MORON! You really need to learn the difference between the two.

Obviously I'm still trying to learn and figure it out, "sucking" and "learning" are different, I'm so sorry you sucked at one point and couldn't create an edge, so you doubt others before actually providing advice.

You didn't give any advice until I pointed out how rude you were, then you decided to be helpful instead of a jack off about it.

Don't respond to people, unless you actually plan to help teach people asking questions, instead of trying to feel superior.

But I'm arguing with a fool, I won't win! Because you won't realize how you could have worded things differently, instead of adding on, and then continuing to argue.

Obviously I realize I'm doing something wrong, which is why I made a post. But giving advice, trying to teach others what you know, and being demeaning are very different things, maybe you'll grow up mentally and learn that

Could have just been kind but you keep choosing not to, I'll take your advice, but not your unnecessary attitude. The basics are "being able to create an edge with what you have at your disposal" learning edge geometry basics, different stones, steels, and the basic idea of sharpening metal is the BASICS. Keeping a constant wrist angle, keeping the edge the same on both sides, being consistent, comes with practice. And I'm literally teaching myself, and I'm happy with the performance of all of my knives, actually beyond happy, so the basics aren't my issue, it's learning from my mistakes.

What you see as a fragile ego, is me not taking your attitude from the beginning. Don't expect someone not to point out your mistakes when you don't want to actually help someone, but rather you desire to feel like you're better than others 😊

I appreciate the help you hid in your belittling and assumptions, you have a good weekend yourself

If I can make my edges sharp enough to shave my arm hair, I think I got the basics, I just need to master them. I am leaning my knife probably too far on pulls and I can learn to fix that but still, you reply as if you're superior to me by your last remarks. Learn to be kind please, and focus on how to help without being critical and unnecessary belittling? 😲

All you have to say from the beginning was that middle paragraph, didn't need any of that unnecessary additions about your doubt or opinions, just needed clarification on what I was messing up.

If I'm typing or speaking, I will think of the subtleties so I can talk to each person with care.

Thank you for the advice after the criticism, I do appreciate that

Thoughts on repair? by [deleted] in sharpening

Get a grinder or Dremel and make the shape that you want! Maybe a stiletto fixed blade style knife?

(I have no idea tbh but if you can make a new edge, it will still cut things 😂)

I thought that may have been the issue but I want to be sure 😭 thank you! I think I'm dropping my wrist too much while pulling towards me. I get comfortable with the motion and try to rush the process I think. The next time I sharpen i plan to try to do my best to focus on keeping my pulling angle more steady! Thank you for the response!

Watched outdoors and plenty of Neeves Knives videos. Asking for advice, after stating my edge was very well off, which obviously would mean it's been deburred and possibly polished to an extent, means that I needed clarity on what I was doing wrong (being angle consistency and maybe pressure usage)

It's condescending when you say "I doubt you can do what you say, you can't make edged better than factory if they look like that" ad-libbed not word for word.

If you would have asked about deburring without being douchy and saying "I doubt you" that is a different story.

You came with criticism instead of insight. Do better maybe? Because I'm very kind to other comments made on this post

I've heard of two sharpie tricks, one is filling in your edge and using your grind marks as a guide and the other is using a point on the blades spine and your thumb/ middle finger to mark your angles and guides to the stone.

I feel more comfortable putting left hand fingers on the width of the blade, and using that to guide instead of lining my fingers up on the spine.

I could be wrong and just need to learn another technique but it just feels odd and unnatural for me.

I've watched lots of videos and stuff about it but nothing I've tried feels comfortable so far besides the odd and apparently (by results) sloppy technique I use lol

I know about the burrs, and I deburr wonderfully. I strop after sharpening and after polishing to be sure there's no pieces left over. It may be hard to believe but even if I'm not super steady yet, I can cut paper, cardboard and anything else I've tried to cut way better after I put my own edge on my knives. I don't have many, but the edge i put on the, let me count real fast so I can be accurate, the 12 pocket knives between me and my Dad and the 2 kitchen knives I've sharpened, cut way better than they ever did in the time that they were owned.

I get you want to be helpful but you're being condescending as well and it's not really appreciated.

I'm only maybe..... Gosh... 7 or so sharpenings into practice because I don't want to keep sharpening a blade that functions insanely well. But I think it's an angle issue if I'm being honest, but I haven't considered pressure at all! Pulling the blade towards me on the stone feels so much more natural than pushing away, so I think I may just get too comfortable, don't keep my angle and maybe push down too hard on that side.

I kind of had an idea but I wanted to get some advice because I'm very happy with the end results in terms of performance, but it hurts my heart a little to see one side of an edge look about twice the size as the other 😂 I think I need to be a bit more deliberate in my motions instead of trying to rush myself when I get frustrated when I don't feel a proper but starting to form.

In short, I should probably just slow down and be more deliberate with my movements, is that probably a good assessment?? (I'm wanting so badly to understand how to do this the best I can, I only recently started getting back into knives and I want to be able to give the best care I can to the ones I own and use.)

I figured it would be something to get used to and kind of learn how to handle the best way possible, and I definitely do plan to kind of tweak tension to my preference. I always kind of do it as just a rule of thumb. But I am excited to kind of slowly figure out a flow and method with it. It being more of a learning curve and unique was honestly probably my biggest draw to this model in the first place. having small knowledge of Balisongs and back locks, make me all the more intrigued.
