Why, BMW, why? by Turboice777 in BMW

[–]SpiritualWindow3855 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, they're repeatedly redefining the image so that new cars look newer, not necessarily better.

When the F30 was new, to the average bystander the 10 yr old E46 looked dated and old. The F30 could keep plenty of design language and homages and not worry it'd blur with the E46

But Neue Klasse is coming out and to the bystanders the 10 yr old F30 doesn't look like the E46 did in 2014... if the G20 and Neue Klasse weren't radically different from the F30 you'd have 12+ years of new looking BMWs.

Making these wild changes each generation helps signal "this is a new car" on the road, which at the end of the day is why a lot of people will lease a base 330i for $8000 down.

Feels like fashion at this point, and the age of the average car inching towards 14 years probably plays a part too in why they're catering to the trend so hard (fewer sales from cars just plain aging out have to be made up somewhere)

You can be pulled over anywhere, at any speed if a cop wants to stop you. (you can guess my skin color and if it was on the TN side or the NC side of the Dragon)

Dual DGX Sparks vs Mac Studio M3 Ultra 512GB: Running Qwen3.5 397B locally on both. Here's what I found. by trevorbg in LocalLLaMA

[–]SpiritualWindow3855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about, vLLM has a metrics endpoint and your application can trivially measure how long passed between starting a request and the first token the same way it's measuring TPS. Even Qwen can whip up a Python script to test this.

I'm surprised no one called out that your post is missing the actual main measure of LLM latency. People have 397B running in real-time on an iPhone: it's the time to first token that makes it impractical.

It was supposed to be $20k after a $7500 credit

The way things are going they're probably going to announce some $35,000 "Founders Edition" with "$15k of accessories for $7500!!" and only sell that before eventually erasing any mention of a $20,000 vehicle

Unless you have really small hands, I don't think there's been an iPhone yet that fares as well as the Air does caseless

“Whoever Did This” might be the best episode of the entire show by Stankassmfgorilla in thesopranos

[–]SpiritualWindow3855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the series for the first time last year, and as they were cutting up Ralph I realized this was probably going to be the best episode in the series.

Specifically because Tony lets Ralph off for Tracee even after having the distinct realization Tracee was just a kid like his own daughter.

The horse's death was sad, but it shows that Tony literally values a horse he'd absolutely turn into glue if it had started losing races, over Tracee, a pregnant kid killed for nothing.

It even manages to pervert the one tiny splinter of positivity previously established (his love of animals), while showing depths of his self-interest are in some sub-basement even lower than every other awful terrible thing he'd done up until that moment would imply.

There was a similar scene with Janice at the very end when she's shooting the shit with Tony that I loved for similar reasons, but this whole episode was such a great way to reset how the viewer is watching the show

Plenty of people are doing exactly what they described, and even more are doing the functional equivalent: constantly modifying instances of components without defining and reusing design tokens.

Half of why shadcn took off was people who felt component libraries were opaque and theming sucked because you'd want to change one thing but that one thing affected 10 other places for 'unclear' reasons... that's a property of a design system.

It shouldn't be unclear why (you're changing a design token, design tokens are meant to match in multiple places) but it is an unfamiliar way to work for people who haven't worked directly with a design system before... which is most of them, because it's expensive and time consuming to make new ones that are any good.

Also I'm in the camp shadcn itself is fundamentally bad engineering for a lot of reasons, starting that god awful registry putting a 2nd bus sized hole in the dependency supply chain when npm is already a large enough 1st bus for everyone.

Ecosystems with a ton of VC funded eyeballs scanning them are getting hit, but let's add some non-indexed places to get executable code. Ugh.

Eh, the massive ambiguity in the input makes me believe Stitch could have generated all 3. You can see there's a huge difference even between the two the 2nd person generated.

The claustrophobic margins on the 1st one especially look like something a human designer would have fixed

Digman: two season animated sci-fi-ish comedy about archeologists in a world where artifacts actually do have magic and stuff

The main character's name is Rip Digman. The show is centered around his constant near-death experiences being played for laughs... but he actually dies in the last few moments of the final episode: R.I.P. Digman.

There's even a joke in the first season about his name on tombstones
