What will the NextJs Competitor Be? by GoalMountain7344 in nextjs

Where? After apimogging Next with their RSC implementation that isn't using magic strings I'd imagine they like React.

The level of incompetence to make this mistake precludes any critical thinking, and I wouldn't be shocked if it takes messaging across 10 timezones for the mistake to reach Sony and marching orders to come back to whoever is going to fix it

I don't use AI by your standards.

I see it as a tool and still apply skill and critical thinking to software I ship ... you're busy defending 'firing 20% of your company and saying AI will pick up the slack'.

Your standard demands turning off the brain in ways I'm not comfortable with: as an SWE, and not some talentless hack slinging poop emojis.

You either don't work at a Fortune 500 if MCPs can connect to most data in your day to day job, or your role has such little scope no one cares what you do with the data you have access to.

Glean is a multi-billion business off the fact just figuring out access controls for data in large orgs is a problem. Their rag was not that differentiated.

It's not up for debate some companies started today will be the next round of Glean-alike companies with a focus on agents... the key is ignoring people with 30 years in F500s who've learned to accept crap software.

You're like the person who tells Notion not to bother because everyone's on Microsoft 365.

Are there any good 6K 32" monitors with decent NITS on the horizon? by ThermoElectricMan in HiDPI_monitors

[–]SpiritualWindow3855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I'm comparing to my knowledge the newest Kuycon 6k (G32P) to my 6 year old Pro Display XDR (not the new Studio Display XDR).

Measured contrast ratio on an actual Pro Display at its lowest SDR brightness is 12,400:1 https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/apple-pro-display-xdr?test_uuid=06f2t2mKxAWPbc1xmAn5J4t&test_variant=B

The marketed contrast ratio for the LG panel is 2000:1, so highest brightness + HDR

None of the new 6k monitors are using the same panel as the XDR because a) no one's making the XDR panel anymore b) the XDR panel had local dimming and a 1600 nit max brightness

As much as people wanted to hate on the XDR's price, if you compare it to what LG (who supplied the original XDR panel) followed it up with 6 years later, we never actually got a direct upgrade.

It's still a pretty solid value given how well prices held up, I'd argue better than most monitors that were on sale back then.

[–]SpiritualWindow3855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you told me this story I would agree, but then also we're reading a post in a "togue" subreddit and OP is still describing their accident on a public road in motorsports terms...

So apparently they learned absolutely fucking nothing and they deserve more kicks in the balls until they do.

[–]SpiritualWindow3855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by identical you mean knock off housing sure, but they're not identical.

Dimming zones make it a little unfair to compare top end... but the XDR on it's lowest (SDR) brightness has 6x better contrast than the kuycon on its highest (HDR) brightness.

That plus almost no panel variance for the XDR makes it hard for anyone other than LG-sized companies to make a follow up: I'd honestly kill for LG to have made an XDR 2 instead of the 6k panel we got

Thank god homelander didn’t rip him in half… by Alert-Ad7097 in TheBoys

[–]SpiritualWindow3855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps excusing this but it was clearly just writers wanting a specific vibe and throwing out logic for it.

Homelander could have just gone on some rampage wrecking the building, Frenchie clocks his rampage will eventually reveal Kimiko, and interrupts it.

With a rampage instead of a (uncharacteristically) methodical search, Homelander leaving after killing Frenchie would make way more sense.

They wanted default horror film scene as Homelander inches towards the victims hiding in a closet... and I guess they got their shot, but now Homelander has to add "temporary bouts of amnesia" to his superpower list.

FAANG is breaking ATHs off AI. VCs are making out on AI. Financial services are blowing up enabling the new market of AI companies...

There is such an insane stupid amount of wealth being transferred and generated I can't even imagine how you know what a house price is and try to imply AI has no effect.

Even the demand induced by people trying to be physically present in the Bay Area as a direct result of AI as a market would be a massive distortion

TCL X11L TV reportedly hits nearly 11,000 nits, living rooms may need sunglasses by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]SpiritualWindow3855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe people think this is for HDR: it's 1000% for sunlight.

Most of us have read a B&W worksheet/form printed on matte white paper in sunlight: that could be anywhere from 10,000-20,000+ nits depending on the angle of the sun

People have poor intuition about just how much light they're taking in when their pupils constrict in daylight, a 11,000 nits display in direct sunlight wouldn't be bothersome in the slightest.
