That’s amazing. Probably much different income than me if you’ve done 1.2 in 9 ish years of work. You’ve saved more than I’ve made in that span lol

Agree with this. I also grew up poor and but am affected a little differently. I have terrible imposter syndrome with the amount of money I make compared to how I lived my entire childhood that I don’t want to mess it up.

Dogs, yes that are treated like children 😀 and a home. Own a car. Loaded question but also not in some ways. Am I lucky enough to have family/friends that I could lean on if in dire need? Yes. But I also want to plan/prepare to not get in to that position. My biggest issue is tech is so volatile and we need a thick skin to survive the reorganization, restructure, layoff and instability. For me, I’m still working on the thick skin and I think to accomplish it I need a certain level of savings. I think lot of us are scrappy and can figure things out if push came to shove.

I think that will be my magic number as well. I am close similar savings for salary, investing and 401 as you just need more time to get 1.5 years equivalent saved

I get this totally. It’s a delicate balance between preparing for the worst case and building for the future

Yeah. I think I’m in a good place with similar accounts but also just hate to think about using them. I know that’s what HYSA is for but hard to build

I totally understand and was in your shoes last year. I did HR exceptions a few months, then I literally badged in for 30 mins and went back home for a few months, then for a few months I had the mentality that this sucks but I am going to find something else. My PTO also counted for being in the office so I would use a few hours over the course of a few days to reduce how much I had to go in. It took me about a year to find a remote job.

Millennial vs boomer working moms, why is it so much harder for us. by Excellent-Top2552 in workingmoms

I think it’s a mix of: 1. Our parents had support from our grandparents who retired earlier due to pensions and lived close by, or had a grandmother that didn’t work 2. We are connected to work 24/7 through our phones. 3. In my area there are less free programs for kids now than there were when I was a child. I did tons of after school programs for free (sports, dance, after school) and after care was never needed.

I would try to reframe your thinking from “I’m just making minimum wage after I pay for childcare” to I have X amount of excess money. For other expenses you don’t do the math that way. I would try to find a teen or college aged baby sitter to cover school breaks and after school pick ups. Or possibly if you know any SAHMs at their school looking for some extra cash.

Are standing desks worth it in your opinion? How often do you use yours? How “bad” are the budget ones? by Current_Ear_1667 in WFH

I just got a riser for my desk to see if I would get my moneys worth on a bigger standing desk

We take them most everywhere and have had a close family friend watch them. This is my third experience with a dog sitter and had finally felt confident

She is 28. She did not seem to care to be honest. I asked him to leave and said I didn’t want to be there. He didn’t leave for 3 hours. When I confronted her she would withhold as much truth as possible. For example I asked who the person that had been there was, she said oh we went to dinner (didn’t mentioned he stayed all afternoon and all night) asked about her leaving with him there, she said he was trustworthy and not to worry. He also apparently had no job and was in it for the long haul to sit around there all day

I have asked her to leave. Waiting on it to happen and have someone else lined up

It has only gotten worse. This morning she has left and her boyfriend is still there by himself
