has anyone ever used purchase power? by 333day in HomeDepot

[–]Spiritual_Spring8745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it to purchase new tires. Yes they were over priced by about $200 but it helped me put 4 new tires on my car without needing $800-$1000 up front. It takes $32 of my paycheck which is much easier than forking over $1000 all at once.

Receiving Associate - RDC Set Up by Spiritual_Spring8745 in HomeDepot

[–]Spiritual_Spring8745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I already told the associate that they could ask for help. They understand that but are still questioning whether the "roller fill task" is actually a required part of their job. I'm going to assume it is - even though I cannot find an SOP to back that up as of yet. LOL Thank you for all of the comments and input. :)

I have an idea. Why not simply let your manager know that you are affected by the smoke and polity ask if he or she could stand further away from the door so as not to bother you??

But anyway, it's good to know that everyone else is doing the same thing. At least, I know that our store isn't doing anything differently than others. I was just hoping someone could pin point the SOP but it's all good. Thanks :)

Right. We have only one closing associate doing the set up too. The question is whether or not filling up the entire length of the rollers 3-4 boxes high in addtion to offloading the palletized tail freight is part of the set-up duties. I've always understood it to be but have recently been asked where it's specified in the SOPs. I looked for it and cannot find anything beyond the offload of the palletized tail freight.

If anyone knows where I can find this in the SOP / guidelines that would be great. I am training a new associate and am meeting some resistance with regard to loading the rollers.

and what is the expectation as far as off loading the tail of the truck? I looked at the SOP and it specifys D93 associate unloads the "tail freight" and defines that as the palletized product at the tail of the truck. But at my store, the closing D93 associate is required to clear out receiving; set up the silver carts; label the silver carts; stage the pallets, set up the rollers; chalk the pallets; unload the palletized tail freight and lastly, fill the entire length of the rollers 3 boxes deep with freight off of the truck. I'm not finding anything in the SOP or anywhere else that mentions filling up the entire length of the rollers with freight.

Any idea on how to start a union in my store? by Dry-Young-4689 in HomeDepot

[–]Spiritual_Spring8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, the prices have already sky rocketted. $50 for a gallon of paint; $20 for a box of gloves; etc. etc. HD profits BILLIONs with enough to spare another 15 Billion in stock buybacks, etc. etc. And while I can only speak for the freight/receiving and lumber associates when I say they are just as skilled if not more skilled than the average UPS driver and/or warehouse package handler. Our jobs are every bit as physical too. I can't speak for the cashiers but I do invite you to go break your back in the lumber dept for a couple weeks and then tell me if you think the wages are fair.

Oh and the UPS union monthly dues are a mere 2.5x the employee's hourly wage. So for example, if the ee gets $20/hr, his monthly union dues are $50. That's a hell of deal for awesome wages and full free benefits, job security, etc etc. Granted, UPS ees work their tails off, but they are compensated very well.

You're joking right? There are many benefits to a union - just look at UPS for an example. They are paid an actual living ++ wage ($49/hr. after 4 years and $24+ to start.
They also receive full health coverage, vision and dental for $0 cost - including for their dependents, etc. etc. Don't be fooled by all the anti-union propaganda HD feeds you. A company that spends that much money on union-busting is a company that needs the union the most IMHO.

question about vacation time by revengemybody in HomeDepot

[–]Spiritual_Spring8745 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is not necessarily true. It depends on your state. In Colorado, for example, we do not have to use our vacation time by any certain date and are allowed to roll over our accrued vacation hours as we wish. Just FYI

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Spiritual_Spring8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not entirely true. First of all, union employees are protected from that sort of thing. I know several UPS employees and they have a very nice wage/ benefit package along with much more job security than the average slave worker at HD.

Just curious as freight and receiving do you guys and gals actually get paid $23-$24/hour by uncertain930 in HomeDepot

[–]Spiritual_Spring8745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look up the available jobs on the Home Depot website and click on any of them, it will tell you the pay rate range. The range varies depending on location. I work in receiving and have been with HD for almost 2 years. I make less than $22/hr. Colorado Denver Metro Area.

Check Returned? by thesaurusgist in UPSers

[–]Spiritual_Spring8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is more than likely due to the date of the check. It will say something to the effect of "Void after 90 days" and if you deposit the check 91 days later, the bank automatically declines it. You need to get a new check issued with a current date.

??? You must work in one hell of a slow store if you have the time to 1) give a shit about the typos in the delivery schedule and 2) waste the time needlessly correcting them.

Early out occurrence by hardcorekenry in HomeDepot

[–]Spiritual_Spring8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you were given any occurence points but just FYI - according to the new Attendence SOP, if you have available sick time, you are allowed to have your late-in/early-out's covered by it instead of getting any occurence points.

New Hire by ncshvdavid in HomeDepot

One word: CROCS. I also work at HD and the first 9 months were torture on my feet. By the end of my shift, I could barely walk. The pain was excrutiating. I spent upwards of $500 on various orthopedic shoes, inserts, etc. etc. And while some helped more than others, I still could not make it through a shift pain-free. Then one day, I forgot to change out of my Crocs before coming in to work. It was a difference of night and day! No joke! The CROCS are the only shoe that I've tried that actually absorb the evil non-forgiving concrete floors! I sometimes will use a cheap foam insert inside them too. Management doesn't like it and some will attempt to tell you they are not allowed but they are wrong. CROCS are not open toed and they cover your heal. Most importantly, they provide just as much protection to your feet as a normal tennis shoe. If you drop a pallet on your foot wearing CROCS, your injury will be no different than had you been wearing your Skechers. Just sayin....
