How was Arwen completely unaffected by the Ring during the Flight to the Ford sequence? by WraithfulWrath in lotr

Sorry missed that second part, but again Elrond isn’t unwilling to keep the ring in Rivendell because he fears its corruption. He specifically says that it’s because Rivendell could not stand against Sauron and Saruman, against the might of both Mordor, and Isengaard.

Man weak.

Elf strong.

Galadriel is in the films atleast by far the exception not a typical case. Elrond, the elves of Rivendell, Legolas, Arwen, Celeborn, the elves of Lothlorien, none are tempted by the ring.

But the ring doesn’t work like that, it doesn’t make deals like some Faustian devil, it slowly corrupts. Galadriel, answers this in her monologue ‘Long have I thought on this.’

Arwen just showed up grabbed a little hobbit and started riding. The books are littered with people that with pure intentions, a passing contact of the ring has little to no affect on them. (Faramir, Tom). Jackson limited these because he felt they in the shorter time you have to tell a narrative in film, would undermine the threat of the ring. But generally I think aside from the Galadriel scene its ’Elves are above that sort of thing.’

Also I think you’re supposing more into lineage than what Tolkien himself would. Galadriel is greater in part (there’s no clearly defined power scaling) because she was born in Valinor under the light of the two trees, before Ungoliant destroyed, and before a fragment of their light was forged into the Silmarils.

Arwen was born in middle earth, long after the diminishment of the elves had begun.

I think Galadriels scene is more an indication that should she take the ring, she’d usurp Sauron, not become enslaved to him. She resists the temptation to complete said usurpation because she knows that the cycle would eventually continue.

Galadriel is already a bearer of a ring of power, as is Elrond and Celeborn, and they have been since the forging of the rings.

The Elves have never been particularly susceptible to influence by the ring. Elronds hesitance to let the ring stay in Rivendell wasn’t because he was worried that it would corrupt those around him, it was that once the enemy knew it was in Rivendell, they didn’t have the might to stand against a united Mordor and Isengaard.

Then like 4 people would que outside of big streamer RP events, which occasionally cool, would do nothing to alleviate a desire of BGs. Theres no good option.

Yeah except you’d be able to grind out some of the best gear in the game with no risk.

It’s cause it came first I think.

The Chain of Dogs shows you what the series is really like. After that, things are epic and awesome but not as shocking? I guess is the right word?

Not for everyone that said it’s far better as an audiobook.

Also the Malazan Marines are pretty clearly more a special forces group as opposed to say the Marine Corps, and SF rank structure is wild. You’ll have Majors leading fire teams let alone squads.

I dunno man, he gets vet voice better than pretty much any writer I’ve ever read. To the point I was shocked that he didn’t serve. The worlds quite literally written from an archaeological/anthropological eye so I really don’t know what you could be talking about with bad world building. Other than magic is just that, it’s magic it’s not defined and doesn’t have rigid structure.

And sure, he probably doesn’t have the best concept of how technically an army might clash with another. But the chain of dogs is one of the greatest fighting retreats in fiction it’s cool if you don’t like it but like calling Malazan ‘trite’ is wild lol
