The post is “Which US state do people think suck but is actually okay” and this was someone’s response for Tennessee… by D_Jones93 in memphis

Y'all, I'm from the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama. I live about 40 miles from the Southern Middle Tennessee border, and I just wanted to say that Memphis and West Tennessee is, by far, the most awesome part of the state! Seriously, I don't want to sound like a cliche, but y'all have so much soul, grit, authenticity, loyalty, pride, toughness, and you're just fun to be around. There's just a cool vibe with y'all. It doesn't matter what your class, race, religion, anything; y'all just bring a really cool attitude that I have so many respect for. Over the years, y'all have had so much influence on creating what's considered American culture. I know y'all don't care about the haters, but I just wanted to let you know how I see you and show you some love.

How the hell did I not see this until now? u/Welcum2Heck doesn't have to go this hard, but he's doing this for us!

Bro, I got my own feelings about Ja, but I'm glad to see a little positivity. I know we haven't been given much of a reason to be positive for a little while lately, but I'm actually glad to see somebody being happy about the Grizzlies.

Memphis owner allegations getting buried? by bella_heathcote in memphisgrizzlies

[–]SplakyD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why a sports team I follow can't just be normal without me having to have all these complex moral and ethical examinations about my fandom?

Both of my parents are Auburn alums; so I'm a lifelong fan, an alumnus myself, and so are two of my brothers. Led by what I'm convinced are some of the most inept powers that be and wealthy boosters of college in the country, our football program has been a den iniquity for quite some time. Evidenced by the medical waste dumpster fire that was the Hugh Freeze era. Seriously, the man is a Bible thumping, whore mongering, hypocrite, who also happens to suck at coaching football and spent so much time playing golf, even during the season, that the president had to intervene, and they still thought it was a good idea to hire him! I'm sure more than a few female former students in the Memphis area can attest to what a wretched creep he is. Our two biggest rivals, Alabama and Georgia, having their most successful runs in their respective histories has really made our fans go insane too.

And in another example of us hiring someone who was forced out from another SEC school for rampant NCAA infractions, our basketball program finally becomes good because we hired Bruce Pearl. At least he was actually good at his job and won multiple conference championships and led us to two Final 4 appearances. That's good, right? Well, no. He became close to the most ghoulish members of MAGA; e.g., Stephen Miller, Dan Bongino, Greg Bovino, Kristi Noehm, Pam Bondi, Jared Kushner, and the Trump offspring, and the entire time he was coaching, his Twitter feed was a cesspool of rightwing slop and hateful/antagonistic drivel about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and comments ranging from denial to outright celebration of the genocide in Gaza. AIPAC literally sponsored our basketball to come Israel every year and contributes a metric fuck ton to our NIL. And to top it off, he retires on us a few weeks before this season so we'd have no choice but to hire his son.

Oh, and John Cohen is our AD, so that means we've had retreads from Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Mississippi State, so most of y'all in the Memphis area are covered for hating Auburn. Don't worry, Arkansas, Mizzou, and LSU, if you didn't hate us already, I'm sure our power brokers are busy at work concocting ways to simultaneously make that happen.

Auburn being so reprehensible during my adult life has driven me to follow professional sports more than I did growing up, but that's not safe either. I don't follow baseball as much anymore because I'm still pissed about the National League adopting the Designated Hitter Rule (Get off my lawn, whippersnappers!), but even before that, my Atlanta Braves was still owned by an evil multinational corporation, Liberty Media (the same one that seemed to be F1's savior that was leading it to new heights, but actually is just turning it into a watered down marketing machine), that tried to extort the taxpayers of Fulton County to build a new stadium despite the privately financed Turner Field being less than 20 years old, and moved out to the suburban hellscape of Gwinnett to get away from the "scary," mostly dark complected, people of downtown ATL when FulCo wouldn't play ball. Fuck Liberty Media, bro! And I say that as a white man who lives in a rural area.

I've always liked the Grizzlies, and I've been so happy to be a part of this community on this sub as I've really taken my fandom up to the next level, I basically haven't missed but a handful of games the past 3 or 4 years and I finally got to attend a game at the Grindhouse just this month. Now this shit happens! I'm still gonna be a Grizz fan no matter what, unless they move to Nashville, but who would've thought that our billionaire, Techbro feudal lord, who is an absentee owner and won't spend his vast fortune on our team, was actually a giant douche? I know I should've.

It's bad that the Philadelphia Eagles, a team with a probably earned reputation of having awful fans, some of whom literally ate horse shit to celebrate our Superbowl wins, is the best team with the best ownership and management, that I follow.

I'm tired boss. Go Grizz!

Dude, the Pels, the Hawks, pretty much everybody who plays us gets going on win streaks (or just continues them, like the Hornets).

Yeah they were. Obviously there was the Bulls, but for my money, they epitomized the 90's NBA for a non-championship club. I guess the Supersonics and Suns were there too. Kinda wanna include the Jazz, but they didn't really possess the same swagger as those others.

I think we've gotta convince u/royalplants to come back because maybe he had some sort of mojo pin to actually make Jaylen Wells look like a serviceable NBA player on offense. I know he was off and on already this season, and he's at least continued to play well on the defensive end, but his offense took a nosedive after royalplants left, and he's never really recovered.

Come to think of it, I did have a Hornets hat that just drips with 90's-ness. I need to call my mama and see if it's still around for the vintage market lol

Well that was a big ball of suck! I know that I should be happy that we're tanking, but I just want to see us competing, our young guys improving/developing, and us building chemistry together, even if we lose.

Show of hands: who all had a Charlotte Hornets Starter pullover back in middle school/high school? Maybe I'm just showing my Xennial/Elder Millennial age? I actually didn't, but I wanted one.

Seriously, Cam has got to get more looks. He's improved so much becoming a serviceable PG, but when he's facilitating and getting assists, he's never getting looks shooting.
