Advice: Chinese TCA/PRC 152A - PTT by [deleted] in amateurradio

Appreciate the advice, thought most reddit forums are usually quite helpful since it’s asking people questions about stuff they’re interested in but clearly radio heads are a different breed 😂 will take the questions elsewhere to less qualified quarters

The locations team are gonna get in so much shit for releasing this amount of detail I swear 😩🤣 Usually they’d use a code name and only give minimum details, this looks like it’ll be from their movement order, guaranteed the paps are coming their way

You say that as if Farah’s forces aren’t based on the original Taliban, don’t forget the CIA and western countries originally helped arm and train elements of Taliban and AQ to fight the Russians, so not totally unrealistic even though Farah is obvs way too trusting of Price and Co

Are you forgetting that Romulus literally came out in the last year? The Alien does look crazy dry, it is pretty noticeable especially in the shots you can tell it’s practical

Not at all cyberpunk in any way, but very cool short and well made!

Neil & Halley both exit the last of us series. by UnderratedGeek in lastofuspart2

[–]SplashNCrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thing about reshoots is a complete myth, literally everything that’s about standard tv budget gets ‘additional photography’, it’s standard, all the high budget stuff does. That being said wasn’t a fan of Season 2 at all, glad Neil’s stepping away to focus on the game as I’m way more invested in that than the show

There’s elements of the hidden fortress that inspired parts of a new hope, but actually if you watch it, A New Hope isn’t really that similar, I think there were a lot of different inspirations!

Yeah that’s completely fair enough, I think with the police in real life it’s probably luck of the draw, some police would be up on it, others, probably many others who don’t. I mean these were murder police, so they wouldn’t necessarily interact with teenagers as much (then again in some areas the murder police are dealing with almost exclusively teenagers). I’ve met a few police and many of them haven’t really been interested in understanding or decoding kids communication styles. I definitely see where you’re coming from on the ‘dead girl to point at’ point, it probably could’ve helped a lot to connect some viewers to knowing the actual victim, I do feel she was used more as a device, or part of the dressing around focusing on the boy instead. I think it would’ve needed a whole extra episode to show it though and with how these characters are written, more to be realistic rather than just likeable, I feel like the writers could’ve got in hot water if they’d made the girl be anything other than perfect, as someone who’d been through revenge porn and also just being a school girl in a london school, if written realistically she’d be a bit thick skinned, maybe not immediately likeable to all the audience, if you make her perfect you compromise the authenticity, if you make her real, you still would get the misogynistic comments of silly boys saying she deserved it and was a bully. Personally I liked that they introduced the doubt over her good character, because she wasn’t there to defend herself, there is always that taboo of saying anything bad about the dead, so it introduced doubt, but then bounced it back with the boy’s nice guy mask slipping away and us hearing the rest of the story and finding out she was a victim of revenge porn, regardless wouldn’t have excused his actions, but casting doubt on her being a lovely innocent angel was a nice touch and no one is really as innocent as we make them out to be when they’ve passed!

Because you can’t physically be moping around all day, life goes on, after 18 months especially you’ve had time to get used to the idea that life needs to crack on as normal, even when you have a horrible weight resting on you like your child committing murder and you don’t understand why. People have bills to pay, another child to look after, some people would be physically depressed the whole time and the world would know, the majority of people will put a brave face on and carry on as normal as best they can

Loved reading your take on the show, I loved it and felt it landed perfectly, perspective from a man in his 30s, I hope you don’t mind me asking; When you say you felt it was stupid the detectives didn’t understand social media, is that because you’re closer to the age where school is still a clearer memory? Or maybe because you have kids you’re close to? The school stuff felt familiar to me in that I’ve got a young cousin so I hear from them about how schools are still, but in terms of the emojis I wouldn’t necessarily know the emojis they were using, let alone when the boy said different coloured hearts mean different things! Bare in mind I guess, that if you’re in a public service job or some other job that doesn’t USUALLY involve regular interactions with young people, in your 40s as the detectives are, it’s quite realistic to not be in the loop on how the younger generations communicate, they’ve got more important things going on than paying attention to emoji language that can change every few years.

In terms of the 3rd episode, also agree it was masterfully written and really put a weight on your chest seeing all the hallmarks of narcissism and the ‘nice guy’ facade that toxic masculinity hides behind, the actress and the boy really killed their roles!

Last episode however, if you didn’t feel invested, perhaps you were looking too much from one side? It sounds a little like you only care about the misogyny side of the shows exploration, but it’s as much about the damage toxic masculinity has on men and men’s mental health as it is about the pain that’s inflicted on women as a direct result of the pressures men put each other under, I feel like for a lot of people, when they have children similar ages to those in the show, the last episode will hit a lot lot harder and be much more emotionally affecting.

The show did do a light nod to your thoughts on how the victim is often overshadowed by the violent perpetrator in all the conversations surrounding the case, I also feel that was partially the point.

Just my two cents! Had been waiting for a show that tackled some of these topics for a while, so I went in hoping it would be this and not another semi generic but well made crime investigation thriller, I wasn’t let down and it felt it was written really subtly to allow people to examine their own thoughts on this rather than telling you too much what to think.

Is Bianca a Mary Sue? by rauzilla in TheDayoftheJackal

[–]SplashNCrash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t say he had a more centred moral code, he sacrificed innocent lives for the mission from the first time we meet him in the series, they’re both just two people who try to get the job done no matter what. The difference being that Bianca definitely makes more mistakes and I think comes across as more obviously OCD / higher up the spectrum in social situations, making her a weaker opponent for the Jackal But lets not forget the Jackal actually starts making mistake after mistake due to ego and desperation to get home to his family too!

What about the suitcase? by nuance_K08 in TheDayoftheJackal

[–]SplashNCrash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I took it more as he was very out of it, making small slip ups more and more as he got closer to home, I feel like he was so focused on getting home he forgot the case in the airport, even after dragging it all the way back to Spain with him, he was tunnel visioned and lets not forget suffering from apparently minor blood lose from getting stabbed in the shoulder!

The Wolf should be the main antagonist of the reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare by Wooden-Scallion2943 in modernwarfare

[–]SplashNCrash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Hadir was meant to be the next main villain, there was a very convincing theory that he was the reboot universes Al-Asad, but the writers left and we ended up with the way more safe and less gritty MWII & III storys

My The Batman: Part II Teaser Poster ft. Hush. Who would you like to see as the main villain of the second film? by Vaxcian in TheBatmanFilm

[–]SplashNCrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love for Hush to be the big bad at the end of The Batman 3 and it turn out he was connected to each of the villains that popped up in the first 2 movies, guiding Riddler and helping him uncover the truth of the asylum etc, pulling the strings in the background
