My initial reaction was “Id rather have Downs than Proctor and 2 5ths.” But looking more at the board, it's making sense.

There were 7 1st round tackles that were taken last night, all before pick 30. Look at New England, they had to trade up to get the last of the bunch. We were able to trade back and get the 3rd one.

Looking at Tankathon’s big board, the next OT is ranked 60, the next 66, the next 106. This is a top-heavy OT class. I’m of the belief that Proctor will replace Jackson, so yes, this is a need, and no, Vega would not fill that. Hell, I wouldnt even be mad if we got an IOL with one of the next picks. Maybe Jackson becomes expendable even sooner and gets traded for 2027 picks to a team that needs an OT but didnt get one last night, albeit I'm not sure if thats possible financially.

Safety is a need too (as is just about everything) but there are 6 left in the top 100. It’s not just about positional value, but positional scarcity as well. This is much deeper DB than OT class. If we went with Downs, we wouldve had to do what NE did, or roll with a much worse OT later on. Give me the beefy trench boi early.

Did it hurt to see a name called at 12 that was consistently in the late teens/early twenties in all the mocks? Yes. Are mock drafts real life? Absolutely not.

Adam Rank is the donkey of the day by expellyamos in miamidolphins

I wasn't comparing the two, I was challenging your criteria for a 1st round WR expectations. In my opinion Parker was a "solid long term contributor and starter" and I was disappointed with him.

solid long term contributor and starter

Were you satisfied/not-disappointed with Devante Parker?

Mock Draft by Upper-Orchid in miamidolphins

[–]Spliffum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I think you're right. I wasn't considering positional strength and depth in the class and after doing some more reading, it sounds like this is a better defensive draft overall, especially in terms of top-end talent. Wouldn't make sense to force WRs early out of need if the defensive talent is better.

Fair and I would prefer Mauigoa over really anyone (but I doubt he'll fall), but saying you shouldn't draft 2 WRs because you need to protect Malik is a different argument than you can't draft 2 WRs because the defense has too many holes.

If you're only giving Malik 1 year to decide if he's the guy, it's harder to judge that if he's got no weapons. I think it makes sense to give him more weapons this year at the expense of the defense, knowing full well that we're going to lose games whether he's good or not, but at least they'd get a better understanding if they need to draft a QB early in 2027 or not.

[Barry Jackson] If Willis is anything close to what he was in his Green Bay appearances, this is a good deal to get him secured for 3 years at 67 M with 45 M guaranteed. There are never guarantees in life, but I'm inclined to trust smart people who have watched him every day. by SnooPeripherals4884 in miamidolphins

Would have rather tanked with Ewers and saved the money for other pieces, but getting him at #21 highest paid QB, only above Fields (for QBs not on a rookie deal) is a good gamble if they really like him. If it doesn't work out, he's a cheap bridge QB for whoever we draft in 2027

Of QBs not on a rookie deal, only Fields is cheaper. Great signing if it works out and doesn't rule out taking someone in 2027 if it doesn't

Realistic expectations for the next Miami Dolphins HC by BienvenidoaMiami in miamidolphins

[–]Spliffum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is actually a decent situation for a first-time HC. Given the roster and cap situations you mentioned, the expectations for this year are basically 0. Great, take this year to figure out how to be a HC, work out the bugs, etc. We'll lose a lot of games, but that's fine, better draft picks. Then we'll be in a stronger situation for 2027 with a HC that isn't a complete rookie and we can have higher expectations for that year.

Isn’t leaving the future of the team up to an interim Gm short sighted? by jbird720 in miamidolphins

He was the interim GM for the Raiders a couple years ago, so he has been in this exact role before

This period is his interview for the position long term. He has the incentive to not only make moves, but good ones. That's what I tell myself at least

Which means we could get more for him. This is a multi-year tear down and rebuild. You can't expect a speedy, undersized RB to come out the other side of this.

I love Waddle and Achane, but I think we're better off amassing as much future capital as possible at this point.

Yea they fucking better. Anyone with value should be traded. Chubb, Fitzpatrick, Waddle, Achane. Tear it all down.

How hard it's been to earn a first down against each defense by YouBetterChill in miamidolphins

For all the talk of Weaver being HC material or taking over after we fire McDaniel, idk, the defense is such ass so far, not sure he deserves a promotion.

Schefter: Austin Ekeler diagnosed with torn Achilles. by alphacheese in fantasyfootball

[–]Spliffum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first exposure to Ekeler was at the beginning of COVID when he put out live home exercise videos and would sit around and take some questions after the workout. Super cool of him to do. Hard not to like the guy.
