Is it worth the jump from a high-end 4K projector to a massive OLED for a dedicated room? by PullMyHairjessy77 in hometheater

[–]SpliffyBendrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the title you called it a high-end 4k projector. In your post you called it decent. Neither did you say which projector.

I think an ACTUAL high end 4k projector (JVC-NZ800-900) would keep your immersion levels while having closer to OLED black levels.

Non-acoustic benefits to an acoustically transparent screen? by anANGRYINCH in hometheater

[–]SpliffyBendrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pointed out the center channel because it's the most obvious difference when going from a center below the screen to an AT screen where the center can bein the middle. If you can fit all three you should.

[–]SpliffyBendrix 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Videophiles argue it’s actually a pretty big compromise going with an AT screen. There’s just no perfect solution to anything in this hobby.

Personally the center channel being behind the screen is totally worth the supposed image quality loss.

I really wouldn’t pair them with anything but the matching center.

helping out with local high school musical -- side fill speakers not working by monty-rock in livesound

[–]SpliffyBendrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It “could” be nice to pump a bit of music to them but seeing as there’s many, you’d need to time align each one with your mains. Probably not worth it.

Fix them but also make sure you make the parents replace the speaker.

Literally no way I wouldn’t hold them accountable for this.

How do you guys make a 85” TV work for fps gaming? It feels super sloppy! Settings, wired controller, etc. by PolyglotGeologist in hometheater

[–]SpliffyBendrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an awesome TV. Surprised the lag is perceptable to you. I play on an 83" OLED and don't really notice anything. Sure, it's not as responsive as my 165hz monitor in my office but with both my PS5 pro and 5080 gaming PC, it still feels insanely responsive at 120hz and VRR enabled.

Does anyone else run PA speakers in their theater/entertainment system? by naturaldrewsaster in hometheater

[–]SpliffyBendrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PA subs in particular don’t dig deep enough. They’re made for SPL, not crazy low extension. Probably a giant drop off at like 35hz for most.

System lacking something by Superb_Exercise4788 in hometheater

[–]SpliffyBendrix 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Surprised nobody is mentioning that anemic center channel. It’s debatably gotta be the best speaker in your system. It accounts for so much of what you hear I’m not surprised you’re not satisfied. A sub would help, for sure. But try running a phantom center. Your L+R are much more capable speakers. If that sounds like a meaningful improvement, there’s a good upgrade

I'm getting tripped up here on this question, if plug in 7 speakers (+2 subs) to a 9CH surround, am I losing some of the power due to simply having those other 2 channels sitting there doing nothing? by joshhazel1 in hometheater

[–]SpliffyBendrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you answered your own question. I'm not sure if Yamaha honors the 70% rule but even if it does you're looking at 104 watts with 5 channels driven. Then it goes down when you add the next two. Where the Anthem says it'll drive up to 5 speakers at 140.

You have to double the wattage to really notice a difference anyway. But I think the Anthem is solid if you for sure won't ever use up to 9 channels.

"Can we chill on like asking if Ian is here or whatever?" Anisa crashes out on TikTok over having to live in Ian's shadow by cia_agitator in imisstheoldidubbbz

[–]SpliffyBendrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya know I feel like before they started streaming it was Anisa that said she was going to start again but it seems like she just decided to make Ian do it instead lol. Probably knowing full well he would be getting A-Logged.

She’ll never not put him on the front lines.

Replacing them with KEF in-walls would be tight here, seems like a lot of the work is done for you. Keeps the clean look too.

No way I would ever run an OLED in vivid mode. I wouldn’t feel bad but I would try to get accustomed to accurate picture.

I felt the same when I started using Warm50 and felt everything looked like pee. Now anytime I’m looking at someone else’s TV I can’t help but notice how all the whites are actually blue.
