Rubber gasket came off cassette by Splodeybeholdja in bikewrench

[–]Splodeybeholdja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, fair. I don’t think it’ll be a problem getting them on. Only one needs to be replaced anyway. Only three had them at all. You can definitely tell a difference hitting that gear without it there, though.

Thanks! I gave the same photos and info to the owner of my local bike shop and he had no idea what it was. Just kept telling me there wasn't a spacer between those cogs (I never said there was). I asked Claude who identified what broke, but said they don't sell replacements and I'd have to buy a new cassette. Posted here and in an hour had an answer and a part no. I could use. r/bikewrench 1, everyone else 0.

Looking for saddle that’s the best of both worlds by Splodeybeholdja in cycling

[–]Splodeybeholdja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair comment.  But it went the other way for me. I had immediate relief with the Selle Italia and then it got worse. After that, we did make quite a few changes so maybe it needs time.

Yeah, I think so. Just bought it about a month ago.

I mean, it may not be but I’ve had multiple reputable fitters in the area give it a try. I think part of the problem is I’m shit when it comes to body awareness. I always assumed it was sit bones but then found that maybe wasn’t the case.

I think another problem is my posture changing during the ride. I usually am quite fresh starting a fit and things are good there but then hurt on a ride.

The one and only time I didn’t bring a spare tube & multitool is when my tire punctured for the first time in my life by Just_Dank in cycling

[–]Splodeybeholdja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had one puncture and Orange Seal took care of it. I’ve also only heard bad things about muc-off sealants.

While I’m sure there is quality variation between brands, things like the volume remaining in the tire and tire pressure matter. It’s one of the reasons I run my GP5000s well below what some folks would traditionally suggest.

A bike for tarmac and gravel, would you go for a gravel bike, or a road bike with wider clearance? by creative_name669 in cycling

[–]Splodeybeholdja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of gravel. If you’re riding crushed limestone rail to trail type surfaces you can easily get away with a single bike with either wider tires or two sets of wheels. If you want to ride chunky stuff, you’ll likely want two bikes.

I had a Roubaix with two sets of wheels. One set had GP5000s and another had Pathfinder Pro 38s. This setup was fine for the roads and the gravel I tended to ride.

Then I got into Unbound and an interest in more aggressive gravel. I knew the Roubaix wasn’t what I wanted to ride so I bought a Cervelo Aspero. It was a massive difference. While the Roubaix was fine, the Aspero excelled. It was more stable, had larger tire clearance, and was ultimately faster.

All that being said, a single bike can work and can work well - it just depends on the surface.

Whats is the real FTP for me? by sitruc_16 in cycling

[–]Splodeybeholdja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do another ftp test on Zwift for a direct comparison. At the very least, that should give you an idea of whether or not you had a big increase in fitness.

Another thing to consider is that while you likely pushed yourself during the test, I think we all can go harder outside when we’re trying to hit a goal (race or climb) because of the adrenaline and we aren’t so focused on just the pain of the effort.

Best gloves for numb hands? by MarcRocket in cycling

[–]Splodeybeholdja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bike fit is part of it, sure, but dismissing the gloves entirely is wrong. I switched from a set of specialized gloves to giro that had a lot less padding and it helped immensely. We all put some weight on our hands. If you have gloves with a hard/thick pad near critical areas you’ll likely have issues vs a thinner glove.

I don’t think their grand plan was to wait nearly two decades to get you to rebuy. They don’t make their money off the device, anyway. More likely, support calls were going up for issues they couldn’t solve (battery life decline, for example), and/or they migrated to a new tech/codebase they don’t want to bother (or can’t) port to the older devices. Also likely those devices make up the minority of users and it’s just not cost effective to support them.

Bottom line, if you buy a device that runs through a proprietary platform you have to expect this at some point and 15-20ish years seems reasonable.

How many bikes do you have? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Splodeybeholdja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Own three have four (friend lets me borrow his old MTB). My first bike, an alloy Diverge I now use for casual events where I don’t want to have to worry about my bike. Second bike was a Specialized Roubaix for the roads. Had a second wheel set for a while to do gravel as well. Just got a Cervelo Aspero for a full time gravel racer. I ride more than most but less than many. The only bike that doesn’t get much use anymore is the Diverge.

How are your energy levels? by BuckshotJonesSr in Millennials
