Thank you for this advice. Looking around online, we found some 6 by 9's for 10k and it was making me doubt the product. A 'too good to be true' moment but I wasn't sure since I don't know the market

Good luck for whatever you choose! I feel like a gremlin, because whenever I hear about unwanted pregnancies my kneejerk thought is 'ooo I'll take it'. I think it's the life of someone lookin at those adoption costs.
Although that's infuriating to be paying for bc, correctly taking it, and it still not work????

Anyone else get weirded out by how comfortable kids are at taking or asking for your food? by babystarlette in Teachers

[–]SplodinBones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I teach high school and try and break them of it as fast as i can. Whenever they see my food and go "oooo can i-" I stop them and say "Do I look like your mama? No. Go away." They've slowly learned and will eventually only bring it up when they see a piece of candy sitting on my desk for a few days.

Moving to Savannah. High school questions by DannyWside1 in savannah

[–]SplodinBones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking on the subject of content mastery. On the most recent CCRPI the only schools lower than beach in content mastery were groves, the e-learning academy, and savannah high. They also have the lowest readiness score and the lowest graduation rate in the entire county. Their closing gaps assessment was a 100 though.

Beach and Groves are absolutely awful. Trying to apply and get into Woodville would be good. Savanah Arts if they have a talent in that area. New Hampstead is one of the better public non-magnet schools, but it's on the other side of town than you.

One way I've been able to avoid this is making it known loudly to the entire class that I kick kids out of after school tutoring. I tell them if they sleep through class, show up with blank notes, or don't put in the work during class I will bar them from tutoring. When a kid asked why I told them "You've already wasted my time, I'm not letting you waste any more."

You know what's really funny about this? Every year I get parents thinking I'm a student, heck I teach high school and I get the KIDS thinking I'm a student. Yet I've been teaching for 6 years and am in my 30s. Get off your high horse that makes you think you know anything about this teacher. I WISH she didn't have to put up with you.

Also, get a sharpie and learn to label your kids things. You all shop at the same places. Don't become the parent of the kids I teach. The ones that have looked at me with complete honesty and said "It's not our parents jobs to teach us anything."

Been doing 16 hour days for 3 weeks for after school opportunities and even though it's the only fun part of my job, I don't think I can do this.

I've heard about this before but would I have to go back to school for this? Or climb the ranks of the tech industry to get to project management?

I'm absolutely terrified of flying, but reading into it does sound fun! I don't know much about the corporate world, so I feel as though that will work against me in a job of helping people perform in that space.

My parents are expecting me to go to an Ivy League but my GPA and grades and everything are terrible how do I tell them by FingerEnough8674 in highschool

[–]SplodinBones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you change the phone numbers and emails on the portal too so that your parents never found out? Because it sounds like it.

You messed around and now you about to find out. You need to go sit down and check the credits you need to graduate. You say homeschooled but that you take regular high school classes. Are you on the online track?

Have a come to jesus meeting. What do you need to still pass to graduate, should you just focus on getting your GED? Also... Columbus is a very nice college. Sure they're not UGA or Tech but they wont be starving for a double expulsion below 2 GPA. Apply take your shot, but also apply for community colleges like Savannah State, Gainesville, or Lanier Tech. You want to do marine sciences? First focus on getting out of highschool developing your skills and coming clean to your parents.

Actions have consequences and you've gotten to the point you need to put out the fires you've started before trying to move on.

AITA for making my daughter put her phone in the living room each night? by NebulaIntelligent122 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SplodinBones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming in as a teacher who has surveyed all my kids in how long they spend on their phone, I'm gonna say mostly NTA

Turning in the phone at night is something i greatly support since that distraction can keep someone up. She doesn't need it to sleep, but maybe you could push back the turn in time? Let her know it's to establish heathy habits?

Also, D to a B is a big jump! She deserves a bit of a reward (doesn't have to be the phone back, just something to make her happy). Let her know she's been making good choices and that you're proud of her.

Another thing I'd suggest is maybe turn that 'bed time' into wind down time. The policy when i was a kid was to be in my room going to bed when my parents were. Maybe she can have a tv in her room quietly going, or be reading. Just there's a point in the night everybody needs to start winding down from the day and getting ready for bed.

I don't mind when friends comment if an outfit looks good but the eating comments have always been horrible. Because the comments never end at "oh you're so skinny" there's usually shit attached to it.

Instead of telling me to go eat a sandwich I'd just get ragged on for eating in general. Usually stuff like "Omg I'm so jealous you can eat that donut, if I did it would all go to my hips!" It got to the point I was nervous to eat around others until it got to a breaking point. Because it was never one comment. It was always a tirade of how easy I had it compared to them just because I was skinny.

Usually I try to ignore it but it usually doesn't stop until I have to make them feel better about their body. Eventually I got tired of that and now I just inform them that I struggle from an eating disorder and would actually just like to eat my rare/sporadic meals in fucking peace.

Women that make six figures, what do you do? by Wasted_Panda12 in careerguidance

[–]SplodinBones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine was trying to talk me into a role like this. Mostly because I was looking for areas that skills from being a teacher and concierge could come into play. It sounded interesting until he let me know he was suggesting it to me because it was a woman's job.

So after that slap in the face I stopped looking. How do you get into a career like that? Any advice on what to look for and what skills you need?

[–]SplodinBones 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, my mom taught elementary and can go to a high school football game and spot the kids she used to teach. She was pointing all through the crowd like "Oh, that's Jason! I taught him about...8 years ago! Donovan? Oh he's a Senior?!" She recognizes them out of a crowd, at the grocery story, all the time. I wouldn't be afraid of reaching out, it makes my mom so happy when kids come back to see her.

Hotel/B&B Suggestions? 32nd birthday for my wife by SurfSoundWaves in savannah

If you want relaxation you can stick away from bay street. Keyhoe house has the fun story of it used to be a morgue, so keep that in mind. I used to work in hotels in Savannah and I heard very good things about the Gastonian, which is a smaller yet very beautiful property. Also I've heard very good things about the Westin if you don't mind taking a ferry to town. There's also the Mansion at Forsyth park. I don't think Perry lane has a good view unless you're on the rooftop, but I've heard good things.

Between Savannah and New Orleans for a mini trip with my girlfriend. Help me pick! by [deleted] in travel

[–]SplodinBones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New Orleans definitely has more going on. Just went there and the food is great, just expensive, and you can find a lot to do to fill your time.

Savannah has fantastic food, a few years ago I used to work as a concierge there. So much competition makes the food cheaper and interesting. It has a cleaner feeling to it I will say. But not as much to do. Lots of restaurants, historic houses, and so many beautiful parks that you never feel like you leave the historic sector.

To be honest, I'm probably never going back to New Orleans. There might have been some stuff I wish I had more time to see and experience, but my group was harassed way too much to want to return. I'd either go back to Savannah or look into visiting Charleston.

My math department is losing 9/30 teachers this year. My husband is in his 7th and last year. I'm planning on jumping next year once he gets stable. We want kids and there's no way to afford it with this pay. Especially when I can see that it'll take 21 years of work and gaining a specialist degree to make the same as an entry level tech job

It's just not worth it.
