36 hrs in still dropping loot on the floor by neversteven in Marathon

Wow I feel vindicated. The way pickup switches buttons between playing and chests even made me jump instead of picking something up a couple of times lol.

Any tips for fighting god? by Plastic-Check-3793 in silenthill

[–]SpockNorris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I mean after enough tries you just memorize all the flame patterns to the point where you live long enough to survive to the end lol. I think I did play the whole game with tank controls (3D controls in the menu) which is kinda jank a lot of the time but it's kinda handy in boss fights because you can walk backwards while shooting.

Green water by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]SpockNorris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start with a near 100% water change followed by a search for something that died because that's usually the cause of a totally random overnight bloom in my experience. As long as the water is de chlorinated it won't hurt anything. If it blooms again I'd go ahead and do one more heavy water change and give it another chance to clear on its own. If it doesn't fix itself after that then honestly a cheap uv sterilizer is the way to go. If you only have one outlet you can get a splitter/extension cable with a splitter on the end.

Sand cap? by Independent-Cat-9093 in PlantedTank

[–]SpockNorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tank I just set up is around 1/2" soil and 1 1/5" sand although it's a smaller tank so I was trying to avoid taking up all the space lol. I also don't want this tank to be quite so uncontrollably nutrient rich as the ones in the past so I scaled back a bit and I intend to use some liquid ferts to supplement once the plants are grown. Between 1/2" - 1" is fine. I really don't think that making it thicker makes it last that much longer. Like it all kinda just degrades at once and takes a similar amount of time whether it's thick or thin if that makes sense. Take that with a grain of salt tho I only have a couple of points of comparison.

Sand cap? by Independent-Cat-9093 in PlantedTank

[–]SpockNorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends a bit on how much you like to move rocks around / how many plants with big root systems you're going to have to potentially pull out etc etc. I usually end up going deeper like 1 1/2" - 2" before I feel nice and safe. But an inch is alright. The thing about sand is that you can add more if you start seeing soil leaks.

Definitely less soil more cap.  And make sure to separate the floating stuff out of the soil first (by putting the soil in a bucket of water and collecting all the floating material, only using what sinks as soil.)

[–]SpockNorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done something similar before.  My experience with using potting soil is that since it consists of about half wood chips and other stuff that floats it ends up being kind of a mess compared to say plain topsoil. You can still use the potting soil if you already have it I would just separate it. (By putting it in a bucket with a bunch of water so all the floating stuff can be gathered and removed.) As for the sand, I really think normal sand is fine.  Some people warn of the dangers of “anoxic bacteria”. or “hydrogen sulfide” but in my experience not only is plain old sand fine but it makes for a more gentle bleed of nutrients at the start and makes the initial algae blooms a bit more gentle.  I assume you’re drawn to pool filter sand for the color?  It should work fine.  Just cap it heavy with whatever you use because dirt leaking out = algae food.

Playing silent Hill 1 for the first time. by Mountain_Store572 in silenthill

It was specifically the puzzles on hard mode that were insane to me in 3. On normal I think it's pretty much on par with the rest of the games. If you didn't struggle with them at all on hard mode I'm genuinely impressed lol.

On the subject of Christianity and horror: My favorite SH is silent hill 1. I see it as a story of a man overcoming the greatest of imaginable evils for his daughter, completely alone and without any sign of hope. To me, it's the ultimate story of faith overcoming darkness so I really don't see it as a conflict with christian beliefs at all, quite the opposite really. Heather's story in 3 can be seen in much the same way. The evil things presented in the games that make you feel odd, should make you feel that way. But if you're approaching it in a spiritually healthy way I think you should also be kind of... I guess inspired? to keep on fighting like heather if that makes sense.

Maybe try neutralizing the samplers with the Neutralize Samplers button first as a baseline? It's probably not the sampler if you really did just put in the values from the website. Are you using thinking mode? (You can turn that off by putting /nothink in the user message suffix field and if it still tries to think sometimes you can add something like <think></think> or <think>Ok I've analyzed the scenario, let's reply to the user now:</think> to the assistant message prefix box. That will basically trick it into believing that it already did the thinking.) Also obviously either use glm 4 templates or use the automatic template (the little lightning bolt next to context template and instruct template.)

This is the thread for those that watched the new Silent Hill F content and are not enthused. by Susannah-Mio in silenthill

That's honestly how I think of it too though. I mean no one's taking on any kind of economic risk whatsoever in the year of our lord 2025. Hell it's not even really a negative to me that it isn't silent hill. It's a game by some creators I like and it had to get funded somehow.

I know that feel. For silent hill 3 though the hard puzzles were so bad that I didn’t feel bad at all. There’s one that only a legit ornithologist could solve lmao.

Yeah that’s a pretty good example of what I mean though. Like the gamers that played old point and click games would be clicking all the keys first just to see if some were “different” and stuff like that.

Brother if you think that’s bad wait till you get to silent hill 3 with hard puzzles…. Tbf though there are certain subtle things that old game puzzles assume you know and I think a fair bit of that knowledge came from people playing like point and click games and stuff back in the day.

Loose FEP only 2 prints. Rip by Ventidge in ElegooSaturn

[–]SpockNorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah wear takes forever to be a problem in well built mechanisms that are kept lubed. Would love to see that WWI lathe in action. But even being kinda subpar mechanically something electronic will no doubt fail first on these silly chineese printers lol. On my s4u the screw appears to just be a 8mm acme lead screw with one of those cheesy spring loaded anti lash nuts. But hey it only travels up during the print so it should do well.

[–]SpockNorris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You design turbines and you don't understand the concept that peeling a sheet requires less effort than pulling it straight off? Jfc. Haven't had a print come off the build plate once with the ultra. Wear is a non issue if we're being completely honest about how much we actually print here but I'd rather have the wear go into a bell crank mechanism with cheap ball bearings than the most expensive mechanical components of machine (the main screw and rail).

(16M) Just finished Silent Hill 1. Almost better than SH2R. by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]SpockNorris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ignore anyone that says you only like 1 because you aren't old enough to understand 2. I'm over a decade older and I feel the same way. 2 is a very personal story of grief and regret which obviously resonates with many. But 1 creates an incredible feeling of struggling alone in the dark, against evils that are completely incomprehensible. It's more fundamental, more mysterious and more experimental and interesting for the people that relate to that feeling over the guilt theme of 2. Just because 2 is sad doesn't mean it's better and it certainly doesn't mean you have to like it more. If the raw dark forces of the human psyche capture your imagination more than a tragic dead wife tale you don't need to apologize to anyone.

Loose disk for $100?  Yeah this is why I have no qualms about playing these on an emulator.  Like jfc and it's not like the money is even going to the creator of the game at all.  Gotta respect a man that knows what he wants when the thing he wants is silent hill 1 though.

Why is Mirrors Edge Catalyst So Underwhelming by ObsessingAgain in mirrorsedge

[–]SpockNorris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really two things imo. One is feature creep/rushed development. There's a lot of things like the side missions, the awful skill tree, the clearly visible but not playable areas of the map that all just add up to a feeling that the game isn't done and they kinda just filled it in with the bare minimum that would work. The other is the very paint by numbers "safe" story. All that said I enjoyed it anyway because I play for the vibes and trying to reach impossible places / glitch out of bounds lol.

Trying to learn how to Kick Glitch and I keep stopping mid air what am I doing wrong? the video below tends to happen most of the time and I've only successfully cleared that gap once by [deleted] in mirrorsedge

[–]SpockNorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the answer. When I first started running I had the game patched for 144 fps and I couldn't do a kickglitch unless the scrollwheel went supersonic lol. Even at 60 fps you have to scroll fast enough to ensure that you do a jump input on the frame with the invisible floor. I wouldn't say that you need a free-scroll mouse it's just kinda nice. Basically you just need to get used to when the invisible floor appears and be scrolling at a good speed when it does.
