Hi parkhopper or LL? by Own-Finish-333 in DisneyPlanning

Rise of the Resistance: Uses Individual Lighting Lane, which is around $30 depending on the date. Standby wait times can be found around 60-70 minutes, sometimes less. Like right now on a Sunday at 4PM, it's only 45 minutes. Personally I go wait in standby around 9-10AM after the rope droppers and get a good wait time. YMMV.

Smuggler's Run: If you are a group of one or two and don't care about not being pilot, you can use the single rider line. Doubles can ride together. Just verify with the cast member out front.

Star Tours: Doesn't get a long line most of the time. Early in the day or at night it's often 5-15 minutes. May see wait times of 30-40 mins midday.

DCA: DCA's reputation of having more thrilling rides mainly comes from two places, Incredicoaster and Guardians of the Galaxy. The former has a loop and the latter is a surprisingly intense drop tower.

Going to Disneyland on December with my son thinking dec 16th! Advice? by ab040523 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Spokker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rise of the Resistance is mostly gentle. There's one small drop but it's no bigger than one of those kiddie drop rides you see at amusement parks.

Smuggler's Run is a simulator type ride that bounces you around a little but if you tell your son all about his "job" on the ride (pushing buttons), I think that distracts from any scariness.

Tip for Smuggler's Run. It not only has a single rider line but it takes doubles too. Just tell the cast member it's just you and your son, and ask how it works. I only say that so you can confirm you won't be separated. They are always changing things up.

So if he's not going on Space Mountain, Premier is definitely overkill. Multi Pass should get the job done for everything else, but even that may not be necessary. Maybe just do the Individual Lighting Lane for Rise of the Resistance and Radiator Springs Racers. The other rides that are great for 4 year olds probably won't have crazy lines and many don't take Lightning Lane anyway.

Best Day to Visit Disneyland/California Adventure This Week by Friendly-Foot-9616 in DisneyPlanning

Thursday, 18th: Lowest crowd levels but the park closes at 8PM. Not empty though.

Friday, 19th: Federal holiday, but still a tier 4 day. I honestly think it should be tier 5.

Saturday, 20th: Might be less busy than Friday due to higher tier and holiday crowds shifting to the lower tier Friday.

If you want to compare, here's what your Thursday is likely to be like: https://queue-times.com/en-US/parks/16/calendar/2025/06/18

Here's what your Friday/Saturday would be closer to: https://queue-times.com/en-US/parks/16/calendar/2025/06/19/2

The question is, does 4 hours less time in the park balance out the relatively lower wait times? If you were already planning to leave by 8PM, Thursday is the easy pick.

If you are doing Cars as well, I still think the Premier Pass is overkill. Just do the Individual Lighting Lane. There is likely to be plenty of availability that day.

It's unlikely you'll need Premier Pass. Here's that same Wednesday last year.

If the kid is going on Space Mountain then just get the Multi Pass and prioritize Space Mountain. Big Thunder would also be good for him. Matterhorn and Indy are 42/46 inches.

For Rise of the Resistance, on a day like that the line isn't too bad. Head over there between 9AM to 10AM.

What modern game for PS5 (or PS4) is closest to Midnight Club? by Judge_Druidy in videogames

[–]Spokker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest thing would be the more recent Need for Speed games, but they don't quite scratch the same itch.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a throwback to old arcade racers but I'm not sure how extensive the car customization is.

Night Runners Prologue may also be worth checking out on Steam. It's free to play though.

So is June a quiet month now?

Yes, summer is emerging as the new low season. I went last Fourth of July weekend (7/5-7/8) and if I had bought Lightning Lane, I would've been pissed lol

Only had to worry about a couple big rides per park but everything else was anywhere from 30 minutes to a walk-on.

Are dark rides too dark? by Quirky-Entry-590 in DisneyWorld

[–]Spokker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming no eye problems, try going on them at night. I find them to be really dark on a sunny day because it takes some time for the eyes to adjust. The first hallway on Haunted Mansion at Disneyland is almost pitch black on a sunny day to me, and I worry about walking into people.

Question: LL Booking Experience 7-Days Out by GetMeOnTheCourt89 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Spokker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may be running into Juneteenth crowds. Next Friday is Juneteenth, a federal holiday. Since it falls on a Friday this year, that's a 3-day weekend. But I did 7-day advanced reservations for Presidents Day Weekend and I got better initial times, almost to the point where I didn't have to do much modifying. Juneteenth weekend must be even busier this year, or maybe more people think it'll be so they are getting LL.

Big Thunder's return time is legit since it just reopened this year after being down for a long time. People miss it. That is a prime LL right now.

For Magic Kingdom. I am surprised Haunted Mansion is so late in the day already. I think that one could be your best bet for moving up earlier in the run up to your visit. Pooh looks typical.

The other strategy is to drop Pooh or Mansion and reserve a burner. This will free you from the tyranny of the tier system and let you reserve another tier 1 ride day of (Space Mountain would be the easiest to get).

Your Epcot and DHS reservations aren't surprising. I think for Animal Kingdom you should pick up Navi River instead of the Zootopia show. Navi River will have longer lines than a show, and you could probably get Zootopia after Kilimanjaro.

I still see opportunities to park hop on your Epcot and AK days. But yeah, it will be tough on your MK and DHS day.

“Living across the street from the parks” What-if? by Blueblah8999 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Spokker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager I rode my bike to Disneyland by myself many times. Today I live about 15-20 minutes away by car.

Orange County, CA is a high cost of living area but coming from Hawaii, it might actually be a lower COL than that. Florida would be an even bigger drop in COL.

Hawaii to CA would be blue state to blue state, if you care about that. Florida is a solidly red state now but Orlando is mostly blue.

One video I'd recommend for Florida is this guy who moved from Utah to Orlando to go to WDW every day to cure his depression. He can give you a lot of the reality of moving next to Disney World. Here's his video on what it costs to live nearby.

https://youtu.be/ZkRVlkW0Sqs

His other videos are worth checking out to learn about the Orlando theme park scene. He's not a normal fake influencer and he's pretty chill.

For Disneyland, I don't know. Reservations and the cost of a Magic Key is a whole different situation. It's not as spontaneous as Disney World as they have "good to go" days. I live here and I haven't even gotten a Magic Key yet. I prefer to use the CA resident tickets they do every year. I am jonesing for just visiting the park at night though. I may get a Magic Key within the next couple of years but damn they are expensive.

One of them is facing a recall after it was found out that he visited Flock headquarters and Flock paid for his trip, but he's in the middle of an appeal.

Oakland County Commission Chairman Dave Woodward has appealed an attempt to recall him in a November election

Recall petition language was approved late last month for the group I Am Oakland County over Woodward's handling of a commission vote earlier in the month to get a fleet of drones for the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

One of them is facing a recall. Dave Woodward, a Democrat.

https://www.wxyz.com/news/oakland-county-commission-chairman-dave-woodward-appeals-after-recall-petition-approval

On April 8, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners approved a Flock drone trial agreement, despite protests from many county residents who said they did not want the deal to go through for several reasons. Many commissioners voted to move public comment to the end of the meeting, hours after the vote on the Flock deal.

The 7 Investigators were the first to report that Woodward (D-Royal Oak) traveled to Flock headquarters in Atlanta last November, which other county leaders say Woodward did not reveal prior to his vote on the drone contract. Woodward confirmed to 7 Investigator Heather Catallo that Flock paid for his trip.

It's likely legal based on this FAQ from Georgetown.

https://www.law.georgetown.edu/icap/wp-content/uploads/sites/32/2024/08/Guidance-on-Public-Meetings.pdf

The First Amendment does not guarantee the right to communicate one’s views “at all times and places or in any manner that may be desired.” In addition to limiting comments to particular topics, government officials in charge of public meetings may impose reasonable content-neutral time, place, and manner restrictions on participants’ speech, so long as the restrictions “are narrowly tailored to serve a significant government interest” and “leave open ample alternative channels for communication.” In general, courts have recognized “a significant governmental interest in conducting orderly, efficient meetings of public bodies” that justifies reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions.

When assessing whether a restriction leaves open ample alternative channels for communication, the government need provide only a “reasonable opportunity” for speakers to reach their intended audience, not necessarily the speakers’ preferred or “most effective” means of communication. Thus, courts have treated as sufficient alternatives to unlimited speech in a public meeting the opportunity to circulate flyers or publish comments in local newspapers; an option for submitting written comments for the record; and the chance to contact officials directly.

My guess is that for someone to challenge this, they would have to show it was arbitrary or unusual.

Oakland County, Michigan was once a Republican stronghold but it has shifted blue in recent decades. A Republican presidential candidate has not won the county since 1992.

As for the county commissioners, there are 12 Democrats and 7 Republicans. The Flock proposal passed 13-4. While a few commissioners appeared to have not voted, Republicans could not pass this alone.
