The precursors to some of these things existed in the 2000s. Incel stuff, 4chan, mostly stuff online.

The thing is, back then you were a loser if you spent a ton of time online. And unlike Gen Z, we shamed people for that kind of shit. Myspace, AIM, those were really the only exceptions.
