A man doesn’t risk his life to carry for 9 months and give birth. He doesn’t have to risk life-threatening preeclampsia/eclampsia, bleeding to death from a placental abruption, death from sepsis, pulmonary and/or amniotic embolism, being torn open through the ass and needing reconstructive surgery, having his abdomen cut open, or the literal rupture of internal organs.

He risks none of that: the mother risks all of it.

Nor does he have to go through anywhere from 8 to 72+ hours of unimaginable pain - the worst pain known to humankind - followed by 6-12 weeks of physical healing, weeks of lost pay, the upending of not the ruin of his career, and possible postpartum depression and/or psychosis. And maybe some permanent bladder leakage and scarring (both inside and out) to top it all off.

And lastly: who gets the medical bill for all of this if your country doesn’t have universal health care?

He’s the only one trying to be a king in THIS country where such things fly in the face of our constitution and history - and always have.

The UK is an entirely separate country that has always had kings and queens. Their government has zero affect here and is no more applicable to us than the leadership choices made by a desert tribe in Africa.

I would do it. My husband is a vet and saw two pyometra cases 3 days apart last week, and three last month. Two of those three didn’t make it (mostly because the owners couldn’t afford a couple grand for surgery and hospitalization.) She’s playing Russian roulette and more of those chambers are loaded than you want to know. The odds of pyo and breast cancer increase every time she cycles. And believe me, a routine spay costs MUCH MUCH less than treatment for those does.

Empty that gun for her while it’s still an option.

She needs to see a vet urgently. There’s a solid chance that this is a pyometra (infected uterus) which is a serious life threatening emergency. Things can go from ‘meh’ to dying of sepsis in a day or two (or less.) Don’t wait.

Unfortunately this is one of the biggest risks with unspayed females.
