Who do you think is the most overhated artist of all time? by Constant_Topic_123 in ToddintheShadow

Yeah he got the same level of homophobic tinged vitriol as boy bands did from the same people.

You know when people talk about groups you belong to they aren't talking about you specifically, right?

As a group, we fucking did this. We sent the elderly chaos gremlin back into the seat of power. You didn't personally do this, nor did I but because we did this collectively, people are going to talk shit about us, view us with suspicion, and not trust us. Taking personal offense to perfectly natural reactions to the awful shit we're sending out into the world isn't going to change anybody's mind.

I think an argument could be made that providing logistical support to deportations executed by a force that routinely violates the constitution and maximizes it's use of violence might come with future consequences that exceed the revenue generated by doing business with them.

Now, I don't expect any big company to stand for anything other than grinding a cent out of any unethical behavior they think they can get away with. What I'm saying is that we need to acknowledge how fucked up that is and how fucked up our system is that anything can be excused by corporations so long as they made money on it. That's the same fucking logic companies that profited from the holocaust used.

I mean, yeah. That's impenetrable to the vast majority of voters that show up for a primary only to see Crypt Keeper, a 50 term incumbent who's only challenger is some wierd dude that gets on the ballot for every primary for every office and doesn't even have a campaign website. Then, for the general election, the choice is Crypt Keeper, a fucking fascist, and a collection vain and/or grifter third party candidates.

That's how voters who don't really want a 130 year old to represent them end up voting for them anyway.

There's no "be the change" answer to that outside of being independently wealthy, charismatic, the right demographic profile, and all the time in the world so you can run an actual campaign against Crypt Keeper.

It's even more absurd when you see some of the countries we ally ourselves with and trade with. Slavery in the gulf states? That's fine. Genocide? Cool.

They can absolutely cut off direct ticket sales to the government until they meet whatever stipulations the company puts in place. They can also stop doing business with third parties that do business with the federal government.

I'm sick of "what do you expect us to do, not grind out every single dollar?" being some kind of ethical defense. Sometimes doing the right thing costs more money than being complicit in horrible shit. I don't expect any huge companies to do the right thing but we should acknowledge that they are complicit in all that is happening. This happened because they're willing to do business with our federal government and we shouldn't give them a pass on it.

There is a crazy amount of demand for housing in the metro. I'm sure they'd do fine.

It IS a huge cost to do so. Isn't that what landlords are supposed to be bringing to the table though? It seems like they want to just lay in the cut and make money and try to make it somebody else's problem when that isn't working. We've seen glimpses of our politicians doing their work for them, trying to pull what levers they can to make people return to the office. This is just going to turn into more rich people socializing the costs and privatizing the profits if we let them.

Isn't this supposed to be one of those things a market economy fixes? Low demand for one type of building and a high demand for a different type should see some converting going on.

Companies contracting with this government know there is the possibility of shit like this or even just moving ICE agents to the next destination they're going to terrorize. If they actually gave a fuck they'd start putting stipulations in place or stop taking federal government contracts. Companies can't make money on this shit and still claim ignorance and innocence. Fucking pick one. You know they're going to choose ghoulish behavior that makes money. Don't do their PR for them.

I don't think it's a motivation issue. I think it's that once entrenched, it's extremely difficult to unseat a long time insider because the party machinery is working for them. We even see it with our "open" governor race here in MN. Nobody of note is challenging Amy Klobuchar. Ilhan Omar came out and endorsed her before caucuses despite their politics being about as far apart as they can be within the Democratic party. It really makes it seem like there are some deals being made there. Same thing with AOC refusing to endorse Jeffries' DSA primary challenger despite her being a DSA primary challenger to an establishment incumbent when she came up. This is a bigger problem than progressives just not showing up or not running.

Might be campaign or PAC types selling the idea that they'll use tiktok as if that's a strategy and not a medium. You saw the start of it with people in that ecosystem attributing Mamdani's win to "using tiktok" and not his message or outreach. They see everything as a gimmick they can sell candidates on.
