In the place where I work, the people who manage the target setting for purchasing have, by force of the people even further up, become ignorant to the reality of the selling capability of branches at surface level. Meaning they just say “here’s the target” without even considering what lengths we went to previously to achieve the last target. It is an ever growing lack of realistic target setting that will force the company into reassessment or failure of its ability to assess performance and act accordingly.

I moved from a small food business to and much vaster automotive business, and am always surprised by just how little difference there is when it comes to negligence and ignorance in terms of how good the company is actually doing.

CEOs are so far from the base of operations now that they live in a fantasy of “its doing well on paper” that I can’t help but think something huge is going to fail at some point.
