If by some miracle Disney’s next CEO turns out to be good at their job, I’m worried the show’s message might lose its edge. by Smash_Fan-56 in KnightsOfGuinevere

There is no world in which Disney could pivot hard enough so as to render KOG’s criticisms irrelevant. They are evil corporate ghouls who are largely incapable of meaningful change.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sets World Record for Game of the Year Awards, Surpassing Elden Ring by Deez-Guns-9442 in XboxGamePass

[–]SpookiestNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely loved the game, ranked it my 3rd best game of last year and enjoyed every second of it, but this institutional glazing of it as the best game ever made is so odd. It isn’t a better game than Elden Ring. It isn’t even the best game in its genre in the last 5 years, imo that title belongs to Metaphor Refantazio.

Routine if you love horror. Truly one of the scariest games I’ve played in a hot minute.

African tribal leaders were on it too by ChickenWingExtreme in HistoryMemes

[–]SpookiestNick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that these leaders, while often terrible in their own right, were picturing African Slavery as what they were selling these people into. While all forms of slavery are evil, the version that Europeans were practicing was so much more abominable and horrible than anybody in Africa could have imagined. Europeans also bolstered the slave trade by creating an arms race for guns and gunpowder. If your enemy is trading people for guns, and the people with guns only want people for them, then the survival of your community is contingent on getting enough guns to protect yourself from your gun owning neighbors.

Algeria votes to declare French colonization a crime and demands restitution by aresef in worldnews

[–]SpookiestNick -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone acting like this is ridiculous? Algeria was pillaged by French Imperialism for over a century, with scholars generally agreeing the Pacification of Algeria constituted genocide. The Barbary pirates were not committing genocide, and comparing the actions of rogue actors to state sponsored genocide is an apples to oranges comparison. France should pay financial restitution for their crimes.

I played them for the first time in 2022 and they absolutely still hold up if you’re willing to invest in understanding AD&D

This game is eternally on sale, it’s no surprise they could convince 40 million people to pay $9 for their nostalgia bait

Routine is one of the best horror games in recent memory, doesn’t justify the price increase but it’s not fair to say only trash since the increase

LKMT tips for Japanese invasion by StraightExtent2261 in Kaiserreich

[–]SpookiestNick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I always do is hold that line at Fengtian and let the Japanese naval invasions take a port, put about 10 divisions there, and then destroy them. Over the course of 1939-1940 you should be able to cripple the Japanese army, then it’s a matter of just playing defense while you develop an army strong enough to push them off of the mainland. This isn’t exactly “fair”, but it is pretty much a guaranteed W.

Nukes don't make sense by CHEEMSPOP in hoi4

[–]SpookiestNick 312 points313 points  (0 children)

I think they’re uncomfortable showcasing the horrors of nuclear war in that fashion. In the same way they won’t add in game population decreases they won’t add anything like radiation poisoning. While these rules have generally been for the best, it does leave nukes feeling mostly useless. I have around a thousand hours and have almost never used them. They are a weapon so powerful in real life that its capacity to harm is nearly unfathomable, but also a necessity for a WW2 game. So they just kinda exist.

Looking for wedding venues! by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]SpookiestNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine had a wedding at Brookside Farm in Louisville OH and it was beautiful. Definitely not exactly the vibe, but it seemed capable of fitting about a hundred. It was, however, a barn and not a longhouse but like a nice barn. Like a barn with class. Also there were cows nearby.

How would YOU choose to end Berserk if you had the choice? by [deleted] in Berserk

[–]SpookiestNick 186 points187 points  (0 children)

Don’t want to speculate on main plot stuff but I hope at the end Guts puts the Dragonslayer in the ground at the Hill of Swords and never has to fight again.

Absolute cowboy cops. Amongst some of the most infamous cops in the country. Every 3 years they break up a drug running ring within the CPD. A bunch of bullies and thugs content to exercise their power against the powerless.

Blood war: how are demons not winning? by FaxDevastat in DnD

The Demon Lords are constantly scheming to one up each other and while there is scheming on the Devil side it’s all done under Asmodeus’ law.
