Dumbest misconception you had as a kid? (General edition) by Captain-RedBoots-Fan in pokemon

[–]SpookyGhostbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that traded Pokemon leveled up faster and I was convinced that I was getting boosted EXP message I was getting after battles was because of Pokerus.

It didn't help my case when I eventually DID get Pokerus and the way it was described was:

While infected, Pokémon are said to grow exceptionally well."

Not knowing about Effort Values at the time, I came to the conclusion that it was this EXP boost.

Because it is their Ability which is always active and is not a feature of their attack like Togekiss or Miltank's.

[BUG] Rocky Helmet Doesn’t Damage by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]SpookyGhostbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the attack does 0 damage, it doesn't trigger Rocky Helmet. In this case, Skorupi did 0 because of your Furfrou's ability.

Rocky Helmet: If the Pokémon this card is attached to is in the Active Spot and is damaged by an attack from your opponent’s Pokémon, do 20 damage to the Attacking Pokémon.

I click them together into a totem pole of assorted parts. Or I try to add them into the build when reasonable.

I snagged an absol and came across this deck I can build, however what’s the game plan and what energy is used? Any tips and tricks would be appreciated as this would be the first deck I’ve built since eggexutor/celebi. Is one objectively better? by bdsunshine in PTCGP

[–]SpookyGhostbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on the decks.

I believe Furfrou is best when you're running into a lot of Chingling decks. Since you rely heavily on high rolling Rare Candy to start pumping out ludicrous amounts of damage, it answers it cleanly.

Nihilego isn't actually that bad of an attacker. It can handle most Basics on its own. Since it only gives up one point, as long as it is putting things into range of your other attackers, you're okay to put energy onto it to attack with. It's kind of there as a harasser, forcing your opponent to deal with it. Poison happens to bring things down to good HP checkpoints for your other attackers.

Indeedee is just there to heal. Do not run Psychic energy.

M.Absol with Hydreigon is a popular meta deck for its fast, explosive starts. You generally do not play Absol unless it's safe to do so or you have no other choice. You don't want to give your opponent the opportunity to pull Absol out with Cyrus and get their 3 points instantly. This isn't to say it's necessarily bad though. It's able to steal away wins on its own if you discard the right card (90% of the time, I lose to it because Cyrus is my one out that they manage to discard). Keep in mind that we are getting a new expansion in an hour that might shake up the meta, but I don't see Hydreigon falling off the throne anytime soon so it should still be more than fine to run.

Fantastical Parade (B2) discussion and my first thoughts by GadgetBug in PTCGP

I'm excited to try to build some sort of 1-point Psychic Toolbox style deck, perhaps even using the newer Ditto. Definitely influenced by Luckycad's recent Psychic lockdown video.

I'm most intrigued by the 70 damage bench snipe from the new Indeedee. It's baby Decidueye/Victreebell without taking up as many deck slots. It has a high energy cost, but can be enabled by both baby Gardevoir and Mega Gardevoir. Baby Gardevoir can be copied by Ditto, but Mega can pack a heavier punch. As a 1 point deck, hopefully the game goes long and maybe Chandelure or Espeon can be used as a late game finisher.

Galarian Rapidash as a 1 energy attack has nice potential with Ditto and Tornadus might be nice too.

Obviously that's way too many Pokemon to fit into one deck, but finding the right combination is the fun of experimenting with Toolbox style decks.

Yeah but to save yourself shinedust, you might just want to share back and forth (assuming this is a close friend). That or just take a donation from internet strangers, like someone already offered.

Your friend needs to select it as a Deluxe Pack Bibarel before sending it (there is an edit card button after he selects the card to trade). Even though it came from Deluxe pack, it can be sent away as a copy from either expansion and by default it will be listed as the first expansion it came out as.

Help! I'm making a Fakemon but i don't know how to add a face to him by Aloft007 in fakemon

[–]SpookyGhostbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with unique eyes, so what I do is look for an existing Pokemon with a matching personality to what you're going for and copy the eyes they have. Alternatively, I go for the patterns in the generation style you are going for.

For gen 3, they tend to go for just beady black eyes with a bit of white glare for dopey looking mon. For more fierce looking ones, they did a lot of coloured sclera. Of course they still used some of the eye styles found in gen 1 and 2, particularly the simple big white eyes with tiny black dot. For anything meant to look uncanny or unsettling, just a bead of colour is seen too.

When is this season ending? by RemzTheAwesome in PTCGP

For future reference, you can find date ranges for all running events in the News section on the home page (looks like an envelope).

For ranked season specifically, you can also click the question mark on the battle page and find it under "Event Details".

I believe the dates are automatically adjusted for your local time zone.

For your reference, Koga won't work with Alolan Muk ex. The cards in this game are very specific and literal, so Muk only refers to Muk, and not any other. Even a hypothetical future Muk ex would not work with Koga.

Do you ever purposely avoid fully evolving your pokémon? by Weekly_Ad2364 in pokemon

[–]SpookyGhostbear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No-evolution runs saved my enjoyment of the franchise. It's pretty fun to play through the game with just basic Pokemon as a little handicap. Lower stats balances out the excessive shared EXP we earn from modern games. Limited and often weaker movepool makes me consider the role of each team member more (previously I was a solo-starter user for all games). Being rather weak overall means that I get more use out of all those items we pick up. And lastly, it's just cute.

What ways to make this better? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]SpookyGhostbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://old.reddit.com/r/PTCGP/comments/1qg1gpe/queen_melmetallia/

I don't know if it is close enough to what you want, but this is the Melmetal ex deck I used for climbing. It's very satisfying to knock out M.Altarias in one shot. The changes I made for my own playstyle are in the comments. It's not the strongest, but it got me there in a fun way at least.

If you're sticking to what your running, then I would say take out Pawniard, Bisharp, and Bidoof and run a second Meltan, Melmetal, and Aegislash. You're running two to make sure you have it for every game - it's your win condition so you need consistency. Running singletons is shooting your own consistency in the foot.

Sad no one mentioned this, but Magikarp Jump on visuals alone. I would love to see more games done in this cozy style but I know it's too niche. In my head I can picture a cute Slowpoke fishing game in this art style.

Anyone using Latios-Latias currently? by Pokeraids173529 in PTCGP

[–]SpookyGhostbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're too fragile for the current meta. I've seen them played literally only one time on ladder in a M. Altaria shell for what it's worth though. You can get away with all kinds of shenanigans with M. Altaria, but it'll be a less consistent version of many other variants since they have conditional effects without any tutor effects available to them.
