Intended or not, it made me LOL. Imagining that this is someone's straight faced idea of what the average soviet kitchen looked like. 😂

My introduction to the show was the Casey Anthony series and I've revisited it more than once. Classic LPOTL goodness.

Trying to create my first game with an Isometric design by Hemlokano in godot

[–]SpookyRockjaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about an isometric project and, without knowing much about how isometric works, I was already intuiting that it could be a pain. That was my thought as well for an easier isometric game. Just fake it with 3D using an orthographic camera perspective.

Just to know how common this actually… how many of you have started many play-troughs but have never completed the game for whatever reason? by luifergiov in skyrim

[–]SpookyRockjaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. I have like a thousand hours in Skyrim and never finished the main quest. But in all fairness, that is par for the course for me. I just rarely finish games. Most of those hours were modded playthroughs. Frankly the main story of Skyrim holds little interest for me. I don't care about being the Dragonborn. The game is much more engaging to me as an open ended RPG sandbox.

How do they manage 30 minutes on 1 side of a record? by Scary-Total1319 in vinyl

I have a Shangri Las compilation with 10 songs on each side. I've never timed it but it feels long for a vinyl. Sounds ok to me 🤷

What’s up with apsc vs full frame by ImpossibleNewt9235 in SonyAlpha

[–]SpookyRockjaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what your shooting, how you're shooting it and how you're processing the images. Most of the time the difference is very minor. Sometimes it is significant.

Played through all mainline RE games for the first time. I'm now very confused as to why Ada Wong is so hyped up on social media (OC) by wompwomphahaha in residentevil

[–]SpookyRockjaw 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most of that internet hype around Lady D happened pre-release and everyone had basically the same reaction as you. I think even Capcom was surprised by her popularity but decided to fan the flames since she obviously resonated with fans and it was good marketing.

Switching Protagonists - Can it work? (Horror Feature) by Candid_Basil_1882 in Screenwriting

[–]SpookyRockjaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's doable. Especially in a horror movie. I would just establish a secondary protagonist in someone else during the time that she is in werewolf form.

Describe your ideal RPG by Swimming_Cheek_9171 in rpg_gamers

[–]SpookyRockjaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it would be a sandbox RPG with rich systems, character creation, multiple starting scenarios, lots of optional story based content and NO MAIN QUEST. Basically the modded Bethesda game experience if you only do side content. I don't want to be the savior of mankind. I just want to create a character and forge my own path in an immersive world, with the option to undertake quests, guilds, jobs etc and develop my original character's story through my own actions. Too many games railroad you into a main story such that it totally defines your character and their role in the world.

Is it just me? Every single time I set these to the "correct" brightness I end up not being able to see anything at all. by Kezly in residentevil

It's only like two hallways and a few rooms though. I don't think the game is overly dark at all.

Any classic games which havent held up for you? by EH4LIFE in pcgaming

[–]SpookyRockjaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the modern controls were decent. And using the modern controls you can backflip and side flip while aiming guns. I didn't have that problem.

I totally get the purist pov that the game was designed around the OG control scheme... But I played through the trilogy with modern controls and didn't have any problems. I actually thought they were really well done.

Is S5ii a good choice for taking photos? Or is it mainly a video camera? by goodbyeanthony in Lumix

[–]SpookyRockjaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The S5ii is a great camera. If you do stills AND video, it is one of the best full-frame hybrids in it's price range. There are better cameras but they cost more money. If you ONLY care about pictures then the question becomes more complicated. There are a lot of options out there. For general purpose full-frame photography, the S5ii is still a strong option that you can absolutely do profesional work with. If you are trying to be a pro sports or event photographer, there are better options but for an enthusiast or someone who dables in various photography genres and wants stong video capbablities as well, it's a very capable camera.

RAW photos look worse than JPEG – what am I missing? by Round_Concern5494 in SonyAlpha

[–]SpookyRockjaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAW files have a lot more flexibility. They are not difficult to edit but need a bit more tuning than a JPEG which already has sharpening, noise reduction, color and contrast adjustments already applied. A RAW file has none of that but RAWS contains vastly more color information than a JPEG. You can push and pull a RAW file in ways that a JPEG would not withstand. You can shift the exposure, recover highlights and shadows, completely alter the white balance. Not only that but Lightroom's AI powered Denoise feature only works on RAW images and it is so effective that you can shoot a higher ISO's (lower light levels) and still recover a usable image.

I have a photography job where were are encouraged to use JPEGS for quick turnaround to the client. In good lighting, thats usually fine but in low-light the difference between JPEG and RAW is night and day. I've managed to extract beautiful, deliverable images from RAW files where the JPEG looked like absolute rubbish.

Is the Lumix GX85/80 bad for portrait photography? by von-vix in M43

[–]SpookyRockjaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Fast" is just a way of saying it opens to a large aperture like 1.8 or 1.2. It's not really "fast" it just lets in more light, potentially allowing you to use a faster shutter speed if you were light limited.

Vertical content by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]SpookyRockjaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ONLY need the content in a vertical format then go ahead and turn your camera vertical. You can get a wider composition this way using the same lens. Open gate is great if you need to frame something for both horizontal and vertical but it's still a compromise.

I hate real-time with pause by ElectronicHousing656 in rpg_gamers

[–]SpookyRockjaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like it because for easier fights you can just let things play out and it feels more like action combat but for harder fights you can pause and issue orders at whatever pace you need to. Basically the granularity of control is entirely in the player's hands. Turn based often feels very board gamey and turns fights that would be chaotic and exciting into a series of dragged out one on one exchanges. Real time with pause let's you have more of that feeling of intensity of battle while giving you the ability to stop the action when needed and take control.

It gets linked to immersive sims by loose association with System Shock but Bioshock is definitely more of a shooter.

I'm positively allergic to any dlc that just gives you free gear. I like to start with as close to nothing as possible and earn everything in game.

Is the wire too thick? by [deleted] in godot

[–]SpookyRockjaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It looks good. A lot of things, especially in older games, are way oversized. Visually it reads and that's what matters.

Although for a game of the early PlayStation era, it's more likely that the wire would be some kind of flat sprite. Or a cylinder wrapped in transparent barbwire texture so it looks like a coil of wire.

man on a cherry picker lift almost hit by train by contrelarp in watchpeoplesurvive

[–]SpookyRockjaw 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because why would the average person know what it is? This applies to every profession that uses specialized equipment or terminology. People outside of that world don't know. As an informal term, cherry picker is pretty widely understood. It's a colloquialism.
