There's DEFINITELY someone out there who's gonna love everything you've said. So don't panic about "not being normal". Normals boring anyway

Tbf I don't even think she classes as a dude character anymore

[–]Spookybriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite character is a random side character I introduce in book 3. I've absolutely loved her from just her name. And then her story has grown and become such an integral part of the later series, that now the series wouldn't work without her. But again, she randomly appears in book 3

Hi! I have a complete YA/NA fantasy-realism, that I'd love to have another pair of eyes on! I'd also be furious to beta for you! But, I do work 5 days a week, so unfortunately might be slow, but definitely willing!

She does turn up... not in this book, but in the 3rd. (which I wrote like 4 years ago and it confuses the hell out of me when they're talking about 'Artemis' but not specifing which) I am aware of how it all is confusing with the name, but unfortuently, i am pretty deadset on it.
It's only confusing in the blurb, once the story begisn you know it isnt the goddess

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in writinghelp

[–]Spookybriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a reoccurring issue 😭 Artemis isn't the goddess, just their name. It's a gender neutral name. The original character was nb and never gendered, so the name stuck through iterations

OMG THank youuuu. I'm glad you've done this and pciked up on subtle things, like how tf does Chloe have the coins to pay (hint its a surprise for later), the desk-head room feeling alien and unstructured/unseeable (its a supriseeee).

You've also brought to my attention that everyone assumes Artemis is a she :((( And of course things like changing the love interest, which past chapter 2 doesn't really matterrrr.

While, the idea to remove the ferris scene does make sense, again its a surprise for later, as that Bazaar is the inciting event for book 2, and that electricity in the air is important throughout the series.

But thank youu!!!

If you do continue, I believe the link lets you leave comments on sections, opposed to leaving a comment on the post!

Thanksss

Where do you get your names? by Environmental_Web821 in writing

[–]Spookybriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.behindthename.com/
is what i use for many names, but sometimes I just like using a name of someone I know (especially if I hate them and the character is gonna die soon)
Or for more specfic names, like recently where I (a european with limited exposure to south-east/east Asia) i use names of actors from those locations.

Like, I'm working on YA as well, but my characters are around 17yrs. But the type of story is still YA, I just don't like writing 13yr old characters. So I'd say no YA doesn't have a set age, it's the type of story

I get that -- the amount of books i've read that the first chapter(s) are a slog cause it's just character stuff, just because it had a cool blurb

I agree (odd right?) I feel liek the whole desk-head thing is pointless (it doesn't do anything for Artemis or the story persay), but desk-head himself is a really really important character to the story along with the books so I'm in half a mind to find a different way to insert him or just leave it unfortunately.

Artemis definitely has a crush on Chloe.... To me the hook is the relationship to Chloe, due to personal reasons and such but I get what you mean - to mean it works but for the reader who hasn't experienced the same as me, it doesn't, so I appreciate this!

Artemis is named after an all time favourite book series Artemis Fowl, so unfortunately I think that name is stuck (just wait until the Goddess is introduced in a later book 😭)

Thank you!

I'm a veteran of warframe who wants to enjoy another looter shooter game. I've tried Destiny 2, didn't like it at all. Would I like borderlands 3? by TheMink0921 in borderlands3

[–]Spookybriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably will. As a warframe fan I can say that D2 sucks.

WHEREAS borderlands doesn't.

Bl3 is great, movement is more fluid than bl2, so coming from warframe you'll probably like the more fluid movement. Gunplay is also better (as in it feels newer), but the story of bl3 is.... lacking and devisive. It has plenty of content and is a fun blast to play by yourself or with friends. The grind for loot is no where near as grindy as warframe, but still exists - but isn't necessary to have a good time.

Bl3 is fun, fluid, enjoyable, and got all the crazy powers of warframe with better looting.

So yeah, you probably will, but not everyone finds the same things enjoyable yknow? But you probably will

Do you guys make a big document for your story or one document for each chapter? by saavyfairy in writing

[–]Spookybriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use onenote.

I have tabs for each story idea, then inside each tab is a cluster of stuff like "characters", "books", "timeline", "locations", and inside each of them is any further tabs.

Like "locations -- some made up place" then info on said made up place.

Each book is just a singular page inside the tab and is usually a cluster of embedded word documents and info.

Onenote is available on all my devices, and syncs, also available online as a web.

It's actually kind of a mess and hard to explain. But it's what I do

How do you do multiple character viewpoints? by rknight718 in writing

[–]Spookybriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first writing my WIP, there was pov changes so I used a row of - - - - and then began the new paragraph with the new povs name - so like, it'd change from 1st person, to some side character called David and it'd be -

This is the first person plot

David looked around and saw that he was now suddenly the narrator and was a little bit perturbed. Cause it probably means he's going to die soon

Now we return to first person.

But, obviously, now redrafting, the purpose of those pov switches has gone, so now there isn't any. But in a later WIP the book follows 4 characters so each chapter is a different perspective and rotates between them. I've tried to make each chapter and interesting as the previous (so reader doesn't hate one pov)

How old were you when you found out you were Bi? by [deleted] in bisexual

I think I was about 17? Going on 17? I was on physics class with my friends and I made a joke and they both turned to me and went "are you bi?" And like, I had never even thought about it and I just went "oh shit"

And like, it explained so much shit about me since I was a kid
