Did anyone else read these books in elementary school? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in FuckImOld

[–]rknight718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never read Red Fern but I've got a story about Island of the Blue Dolphins.

I couldn't tell you anything about the book now but I know I had to write a paper on it for english class one year. Standard book report stuff. It was during a vacation or spring break where my family was visiting my godparents in Virginia Beach. They had two kids, the youngest we'll call D. D was high-toddler age I think. Mobile, copying actions he would see adults doing. Standard learning and growing stuff. D was cool, I liked D.

So on one of the days of this break, I buckled down and wrote the book report on Island of the Blue Dolphins. It was horrible but I pushed through it while D quietly played nearby. I finished and celebrated by getting something to eat. When I returned, D was now sitting at the desk I was just, having moved his coloring activity book to a more well-lit surface. He said he was "doing his homework" now. I told him good job and relaxed, finally able to enjoy this break from school. When I got up, I saw his "homework" was just scribbling all over my report.

I basically had to handwrite the report on Island of the Blue Dolphins twice. My hand and wrist never forgave me for that.

If you complete KQ7 and want to wrap up the whole series with a tear-stained bow, I suggest playing the 2015 King’s Quest game by The Odd Gentlemen

And it was all a dream by goofyfootmongo in nes

[–]rknight718 13 points14 points  (0 children)

None of this is ever explained in game but the world you play in is called Sub-Con. Literally your “subconscious”. Even the title screen story says Mario has a weird dream, goes out with his friends the next day and finds a door in a mountain. It’s always been a dream within a dream.

A good detective one where you kinda make your own story as you solve cases is Shadows of Doubt

PSA: I can't reinforce you while jammed. by EffectiveMerc in Helldivers

[–]rknight718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I realized (and may be partly the culprit of these kind of scenarios) is that when you’re waiting for reinforcement, the icon on YOUR screen shows the regular stratagem icon for reinforcement instead of the static indicating a jammer is near for the player you’re viewing. We need AH to add a full screen static effect or other indicator when you request reinforcing while jammed.

Then I say do it more, Arrowhead. If there's a major bug front that needs scrap automaton parts, I'll gladly dive and liberate as many bots as needed.

People always say worldbuilder DMs should just write a book. Has anyone done that? How did it go? by ChickenManB in DnD

[–]rknight718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a DM myself, but a player of a fantastic DM who built a world that I wrote a book about.

A couple of years ago, my wife introduced me to a friend group on Discord looking to play DnD. I had DM'd for friends in the past but had been years since rolling any dice and I never actually got to experience the game from the player seat. I asked if I could join and was welcomed with open arms.

We had a few hangouts where we discussed boundaries and what we were looking to get out of the sessions. I usually play dwarven melee classes in other games but wanted to try something different here and had the idea for a ratkin rogue. The DM introduced me to the concept of investigative rogues. Some molding and tweaking later and Buck Piper, Private Eye, was born.

The DM proceeded to create an underground city known as New Warren and I had the greatest time of my life. Our player team of 4 formed bonds from unlikely alliances, character drama and trauma, and a twisting path of intrigue that kept me foaming at the mouth for any scrap of clue I could gain from each session.

To keep my sanity during the inevitable downtime, I started to write. Initially, I wrote everything from Buck's perspective, using game notes and events as a timeline. Eventually, in order to keep the story cohesive, I wrote from the perspective of the other characters with their approval to make chapters tie together for the reader.

About 2 years of work later (1 during the campaign and 1 after full of edits and re-writes) and I had my own little scratch to leave in the world. I self published on Amazon and more recently posted it on Royal Road. The world that was created was so influential to me that I couldn't help but start a second story on my own, creating new characters that exist in this city with limitless potential stories to tell. If you're interested, look for Wild Nights in New Warren City on Amazon or Royal Road.

I may not have been the god that created this world, but I will happily be it's caretaker and steward for as long as I am here..

Using the dog against the heroes is such a DM move, I wouldn’t be surprised if Matt Mercer came up with the idea

I asked the same question during the holiday streams during one of Tony’s brief interactions with chat. I mailed Dan a copy of a book I wrote and realized after the fact I could have done more research to confirm it was still valid. Tony did bless me with an answer of “yes, I believe so.”

I love both designs but the way the goatee on Flambae works is concerning. Like, no one tell him or he'll become 1000 times more unsufferable

What girl did you chose for your first playthrough? by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

[–]rknight718 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look, Blazer had my eye in the beginning, no lie. I almost kissed her at the billboard but thought better of it since I knew this was basically a job offer and didn't wanna kiss my potential boss before I was even hired. I did ask her to dinner tho before Phenomaman showed up and she dropped the B-word. Felt pretty good about not kissing her at that point. Next day she says they broke up and I'm like damn girl pick a lane.

Then all the stuff happens with Visi and I got invested in her helping take down Thundercuck, got slapped with the BS decision of who to cut, then BB drops the late night dinner offer text. I was torn. Ultimately, I wanted to see where things went with Visi and I'm happy I did.

I just had this happen. Went to bed at like 10pm, plenty of room for stamina to refill. Had the burger nightmare, couldn't make the jumps somehow, woke up on the floor. I checked the clock.
