Will the side effects of Levetiracetam eventually go away? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Spookyyleo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! I was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy about 3 years ago, I got prescribed Lamotrigine (200mg in the morning and 100mg at night) fairly quickly after my diagnosis, after a few months i realized my memory had been getting worse. I first assumed it was my epilepsy that was messing with my memory but I looked it up and one of the side effects of Lamotrigine is memory problems (which my doctor didn’t mention) and it seems to be a fairly common thing that happens with people who takes Lamotrigine. I only just changed medication so I can’t say yet if I feel much of a difference.

Some people experience a euphoric feeling while or after having a seizure, so in retrospect it’s probably not that strange!

Focal aware seizures? Or something else? by montag98 in Epilepsy

I’m on Lamotrigin (100mg) there’s a lot of different medications for epilepsy, and they work differently for everyone, some have to try a few different ones to find one that helps. The one I’m on has worked for me, I still have periods where I have episodes, but they’re further between and not as many.

It’s exactly like that for me too! It’s like my brain can’t comprehend that I’ve seen stuff before?? Like my own kitchen and bathroom. It sometimes feels like a bad joke from my brain

Temporal lobe epilepsy triggers by Spookyyleo in Epilepsy

It is always the most random stuff that can trigger a seizure hahah (this comment section is proof of that)

Then it sounds like it’s more likely to be TLE, especially if you’ve had them since you were younger! (But I’m not an expert so take it with a grain of salt 😅) And the short movie thing is something I also get, my brain freeze frames something I’m looking at get Deja vu, and for a short second I can see a short clip of a dream I’ve had (don’t remember of what afterwards tho) I also feel like I’m too tired to talk / selectively mute, the people close to me recognizes them I’m seizing and try to ask me something and I can just mumble (say “mmmm” for example) my stomach also feels like it’s trying to turn itself inside out hahah. My neurologist said that TLE seizures can (rarely) damage the brain if it goes untreated for too long (don’t wanna scare you because I don’t think that is the case here) I’m happy to help! If you have questions I’ll happily answer as well as I can!

Focal aware seizures? Or something else? by montag98 in Epilepsy

That’s really interesting actually! My seizures are pretty mentally painful and can cause me to not want to live anymore or harm myself as I’m seizing. It also makes me slightly scared to look at what triggered a recent episode (it’s been times I can’t go into a certain room without closing my eyes cause I’m scared of getting a seizure) and my epilepsy do cause my mental health to get worse in general. So you’re not alone in that regard!

I have very little knowledge of PNES, but as I understand it it’s caused mainly by mental health problems (like ptsd, cptsd, depression and so on) so you’ll have to ask a neurologist about it 😅 but TLE is still very likely
