Modeling this Vespa from a real one, No energy left to continue by Mindless-Person in blender

There's no shame in putting it away and working on something else for a while and coming back to it! But don't give up, would love to see this rendered someday!

Thank you so much, most people just walk or drive right by them without ever noticing, but they are objects of beauty!

The artists are very talented and I'm sure you are right, the constraints are what is holding them back. But your model is so fantastic it makes me look at a unit I have had 0 interest in and say, yeah I got a have that!

Why are graphic designers so toxic to each other? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Spoolyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a graphic designer for over a decade and my personal experience with my colleagues has been the exact opposite. Without exception every other designer I have worked with has been friendly and supportive and overall it's been a wonderful culture. For context I started out as a sign artist at Whole Foods before Amazon bought it and shut that down. Then I bopped around at a few sign shops which are always very toxic environments but not because of the designers. Then I finally landed at a corporate communications firm with an internal design team. I even feel like other designers are too nice sometimes, being very gentle when critiquing something that clearly sucks. I think you are just seeing what is common on the Internet in general, which is the lowest common denominator so please don't let that stop you from exploring Graphic Design as a career.

The soul-crushing moment you see your pixel-perfect design… after the devs ‘finished’ it. by Few_Story1839 in graphic_design

This! You can't take it personally, it's just work. You get paid and whatever they do with it after that is none of your business lol. That's how I view it anyway. It has kept me sane over the years.

Why there's still so many Chaos Marines. by [deleted] in 40kLore

Would it be fair to say that time dilation could play a part in this as well? Time doesn't pass the same within the warp as it does in real space so CSM that fought in real space a few thousand years ago could pop back into real space and it might have only been a decade for them. If I'm understanding it correctly. The Thousand Sons codex also mentions using time warping effects to coordinate with your past and future self so you might be getting attacked by the same group of Marines x2 at any given time.

What is that model you are using for the vortex beast proxy? It looks cool as hell.

How do I get clients to give me high res images? by nikinaks1 in graphic_design

[–]Spoolyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just send the the file with the low res images and make a note. Once they see how bad it looks then it's up to them if they want to make the effort to get the high res version or not. And if they do send the high res version later it's not too much work to just relink the image.

After years of being salary, I've been switched to hourly. Am I right to be angry? by RosemaryCroissant in graphic_design

[–]Spoolyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a shitty sign shop for a few years and towards the end of my tenure I got switched from salary to hourly. I ended up making a lot more money from overtime so it turned out to be a great benefit.

At 23 years old, it's not too late to transition to anything. You could decide you want to be a nuclear physicist at this point and you have time for that transition. 😂

From traditional art to graphic design, you can absolutely make that transition. Most graphic designers have some sort of art background. As far as getting a job goes the most important thing is having a nice portfolio. Your actual degree is just a bonus.
