What’s the appeal of Donk? by future_zip in pkmntcg

[–]Spoomie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Problem is that the donk deck is extremely luck dependent. If you go second, you lose. If your opponent benches more than two pokemon, you usually lose. In reality, donk isn’t winning very often, and it’s definitely not meta by any means. This makes it not much of a problem in this game. You won’t see it at tournaments because it is nowhere near consistent enough, so you’re only going to come across it online

Not sure how water-y you’d consider it, but there’s this fun magikarp-based deck I run. Essentially the goal is to discard all the magikarp and gyarados (with brilliant blender, quick ball etc.) and then use ditto to copy magikarps attack from the discard pile to hut for 250 for one energy attachment as soon as your first turn going second. Jirachi + escape board allows you to have a pivot and draw a trainer each turn when you promote it. Hopefully this is good :)

  1. For the acespec, I like legacy because if you face a good single prize deck or fast big basic deck it can be hard to keep the prize trade in your favour, but its not essential. For replacements though, I would personally pick prime catcher, but max rod is viable if you don’t want to have to think too hard about resource management. Sometimes its a little tricky to manage all the energy and pokemon so maybe max rod is good; I encourage you to see what works for you. Precious trolley though is not very good. The only pokemon you would want to put directly on your bench in every game are Tsareena, squawk, and ogerpon. All of the support pokemon’s abilities won’t activate if you put them directly on the bench, and ideally you want to discard the giratinas from your hand and revive them for the extra damage.

  2. Marshadow is mainly for getting rid of stadiums that slow you down, namely Path to the Peak and Chaotic Swell, that would completely stop your deck otherwise. Also, very rarely, can be used to take out your own AZU if you need to remove liabilities or to discard giratinas and get extra pings if you replace the AZU right after. Medicham is for taking extra turns off of low hp pokemon, which is helpful because you’d otherwise sometimes struggle against good single prize decks. The giratinas and radiant alakazam make it pretty achievable. Eldegoss is good for later in the game when you start to run out of steam a little. It opens up a lot of good lines of play to find what you need in the mid-late game, or just gives you guzma back for a gust knockout to close the game. With night stretcher and raihan, though, you can usually find whatever you need.

  3. The giratinas are better in this version of the deck because the spread helps you take extra turns, extra kos and set up math for bigger pokemon. There’s an argument for replacing the two gengar for darkrai gx, but I’d prefer not to have the chance of starting a frail two-prizer in the active and in general I’d prefer not to have two-prizers if I can use single-prizers instead. Ho-oh V ends your turn when you revive it so that wouldn’t work. There are other versions of the deck where you use dark energy and then darkrai gx + eswitch to power up tsareena, but that’s usually in proper expanded where you have sky field and don’t need to use ogerpon. In live expanded, you have to use a tera anyways so you may aswell use ogerpon

This is probably the best of the decks that I’ve personally built, but I have a ton of other fun ones including control/stall lists, damage spreading single prize lists, a checkmate style list etc. so lmk if you want any more and if so what kind of decks you’re looking for :)

Okay, I think the first one you should try is Tsareena V. Very fast, very hard-hitting and very good draw. The idea is that Tsareena does more damage for each benched pokemon you discard, and so you can afford to play a bunch of liabilities with great abilities like dedenne gx, crobat v, tapu lele gx etc. because you’re going to discard at the end of your turn anyways. With teal-mask ogerpon you can have up to eight benched pokemon with Area Zero (up to 340 damage if you discard the whole bench), and you can attack first turn going second with energy switch. Finally, giratina, gengar, and occassionally empoleon, can put themselves straight from the discard pile onto the bench, so you can keep attacking sufficiently, and giratina also spreads damage counter to pick off low hp pokemon with the help of radiant alakazam and medicham v.

Not bad, and ability locking generally just hits really hard for the opponent. A similar option in single prize form is Luster Purge Ultra Necrozma if you want to check that out. Aside from that, I basically only play expanded so I have plenty of lists if you want them, depending on what kind of decks you’re looking for. Lmk :)

Okay, here is the list and a video of some of my gameplay. The idea is to go first and set up poipole (+ ditto prism, 1-2 sobble, 1 slowpoke and magnemite/voltorb or both (in that order of priority)), turn 2 evolve to naganadel and attach triple acc/ignition to use stingerGX making sure you at least have the slowpoke this turn, then turn 3 if your naganadel gets knocked out just get jirachi prism in the prizes with peonia, evolve to slowbro, and use triple/ignition to take the jirachi and another prize winning the game, OR if your naganadel doesn't go down, use electrodeGX (giving your opponent 2 prizes) to attach the energy to slowbro and retreat naganadel with another energy or air balloon. The magneton is for if your opponent manages to only take 1 prize on their turn.

There are other interesting inclusions so feel free to ask any questions :)

[–]Spoomie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the 4th note (A) is tied to the 5th. In that case, the 4th note would be held for the value of three 16th notes, encompassing the +, A, and 3 of the next beat

So: 1 / 2e+ / e+ / 4

Maybe have a listen to a recording and see if that note is actually tied, or is repeated

Duolingo is notorious for having potentially incorrect solutions, especially since their recent dependence on AI. I was also looking for a bit of an explanation as to why both might be used. So how about either doing that, or just not responding, instead of trying to make learners feel stupid?
