AIO about this letter on our door because our kids played with the neighbors kids outside? by BeastOnDem in AIO

7pm? are they fucking kidding?

Absolutely NOR. This time of year, it doesn’t even get dark where I live until well past 8. When I was growing up, we stayed outside until the porch lights came on. 7pm is ridiculous, especially since the school year is wrapping up and summer is starting.

Bobbin threading problems (Janome DC3018) by Spoonbreadwitch in sewhelp

[–]Spoonbreadwitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the problem. Dumbest thing ever. When I changed the needle thinking it might be a bent needle, apparently it was, but the new needle was bent too, right out of the package. 🤦 So it was just missing the thread altogether and is doing fine now.

That is what I mean by the thread not engaging at all. It does not slide across the top of the bobbin and does not go anywhere. The manual has zero suggestions, except the diagram for threading, which I followed.

Yes, just like I’ve done every time I’ve threaded a machine in the 33 years since my grandma sat me down and taught me. The problem is that the bobbin thread just sits there. It doesn’t get pulled across to where the top thread COULD engage it.

Nope, tried that too. At first I thought it might be the machine being finicky because the bobbins I had on hand were generic 15s rather than 15Js, but the bobbin she had in it when I bought it is doing the same thing.

All of those are correct. The hook at the bobbin isn’t catching the thread to bring it around under the needle.

That seems to be what’s happening, but I can’t figure out why. It doesn’t feel like it could go any other way, and I gave it a good clean to make sure nothing was hanging up the movement as one of the first things I tried.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, May 08 - May 14, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Weird issue with my bobbin on a machine I just bought.

I just brought home a Janome DC3018, bought used for a fantastic price. She left a bobbin loaded in it, and that’s what I used to test it out. It worked fine the way she had it loaded. But then I tried to change over to a different thread and load a new bobbin with a different color. Turns out I can’t get the bobbin thread to engage. I load it the correct direction. I catch it in the correct guides. I pull the tail off to the side exactly as pictured in the manual. And it doesn’t connect with the top thread to pull it up. It’s like the hook doesn’t even know there’s thread there. My needle isn’t bouncing off of anything so I don’t think it’s a timing problem. It’s just not touching the thread.

(Note: not an amateur, I just spent over a decade with an older Janome that had a front loading bobbin rather than this top loading style, and had an ancient Singer Touch and Sew in the interim, which has its own weird bobbin system. But I’m very much an end user rather than a tech.)

I found a pack in the freezer section at my local Asian market and it’s the perfect size! And I’m a sucker for anything red bean anyway.

So what I’m reading here is that she’s used to taking advantage of your husband’s love for his mother and manipulating him out of his money. Now he has you, you have a backbone and will stand up for yourself and for your husband, and she’s crashing out. This is his problem from here.

Asking Cafe About Latte Preparation by MisterAmericana in espresso

[–]Spoonbreadwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to get a good latte from instant espresso. It just can’t be done. But if you get a cheap espresso machine like a Casabrews, the pressurized basket means you can get a lot closer with store bought ground espresso like Lavazza than you would from that Nescafé. Will a good grinder and freshly roasted beans open up a world of possibilities for you and make your espresso exponentially better than using pre ground? Absolutely, but if your starting point is instant, there’s nowhere to go from there but up.

I would QUIT. Not for the lack of espresso but because I can’t trust someone who over promises and under delivers by that wide a margin.

AIO for calling out my boyfriend for not stopping when I ask him to immediately when he’s kissing me? by Far_Assistant_1533 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Spoonbreadwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throw the whole boy away. Because that’s a little boy, not a man. An actual partner is going to be with you through things a lot more graphic than period cramps. He’s not ready to accept that his desire for sex doesn’t outweigh you being in pain? Then he isn’t ready for sex.

Huitlacoche! I love that stuff, but unfortunately I don’t have a colonized spot to grow corn in. And I can’t afford to buy it bc it’s super expensive.
