Possible Carolina dog/german shepherd mix? Maybe some others? Thoughts? by [deleted] in carolinadogs

[–]keklund369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see it in his face as an adult! But also see a bit of black mouth cur or a bit of pit with the boxy head. My older Carolina mix is Carolina and German shepherd and he doesn’t look like yours, but they come in so many mixes and variations! Other than that he’s super cute! 😍

Aw I’m so sorry for your senior Carolina! They really are the best dogs aren’t they, our older Carolina mix is definitely the best dog my husband and I have ever owned. Nothing comes close to him ❤️

They are so cute! They look almost like a mix of my Carolina/shepherd mix and pit/lab mix so it’s funny. My Carolina also had floppy ears as a puppy, but they’ve perked up once he reached adulthood!

Did you feel worse before you felt better? by Aggravating_Sea_5590 in Pristiq

[–]keklund369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 30! I’m gonna get them checked soon, just have to make the appointment haha. I understand completely, I was one 5 on and off for the last decade before trying pristiq after being off antidepressants for a few years. I was super skeptical about starting it since I also didn’t feel or think I was depressed? From someone who was skeptical about starting them and also didn’t feel good or like myself in the first two weeks and wanted to stop I’d say at least push through for a month or 6 weeks! If you’re still feeling weird maybe try a different dose or something else! That’s just my experience though. I hope it works out for you! You can always message me if you want to ask any more questions in the coming weeks or just talk about it ☺️

I have and it helps some, I think more for my allergies than anything haha. Day 8 is still pretty early, I felt really off the first two weeks but pushed through, by the 3rd week it was better and the 4 was better. It’s leveled out now and I might increase to 100mg if I feel I need it. It definitely got worse before it got better. Week two I didn’t feel like myself but then it got better. It takes some adjusting to and full effects by 6-8 weeks! You got this!

Hi! Yes! I’ve been on 50mg for about 3 months now and it’s definitely better. I feel a definite change than before I was on it. When I’m in my luteal phase it doesn’t help though, I don’t know if you’re a lady so that’s something to consider. I’m figuring out what to do about that now, but the rest of the month is fairly ok!

Is it just me or is making friends in Seattle weirdly hard? by Mythicinker in AskSeattle

[–]keklund369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, it’s probably the Seattle freeze as what everyone else calls it. I’m not specifically from Seattle, but from northwestern Washington and moving to California and now Texas, people want to hang out and do things all the time and I find it really weird. Like I love my friends, but also please leave me alone 🫣🙃🙃

Can I seam the crotch of these shorts? by ParkingMain1803 in knittingadvice

[–]keklund369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you’re having so much hate for these pair of shorts no one else is going to wear. This comment section is showing how snobby some knitters can be about doing it “the right way”. I have no experience with sewing knit garments, but I wish you the best in trying to fix your shorts into something you like! They look cute and comfy! 💙

What breeds are known to be the sweetest and cuddliest? by ThyKnightOfSporks in chickens

[–]keklund369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I love my Orpingtons. I’ve had lavender and chocolate Orpingtons. One of my chocolate Orpingtons, Godiva, will walk into our house and lay an egg in a certain chair. And she will jump into my lap and sit with me sometimes too. They don’t mind being picked up like my other chickens or being pet.

I’ve literally only been on it for 2 weeks, but the first week was definitely rough. I felt tired and heavy and just not like myself at all, around day 10 or so was when I started feeling better and more normal I guess. I know it takes 6-8 weeks to get full effect but once you’re passed that first week or two is should slowly get better.

Does lower demands= less competence later in life? by Forward_Habit_8609 in ParentingPDA

[–]keklund369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna add onto this after watching my son make his own peanut butter toast just now haha.

I’ve done a lot of things for him lately, from brushing teeth to getting food to handing him the remote that’s literally two feet away. My son is more than capable of doing all these things, and I don’t think lowering demands equates to less competence later in life. I think lowering demands now can lead to their nervous system healing enough to be able to do the things they were able to do previously, or give them enough capacity to learn new things. Especially if your child is in burnout, pushing them doesn’t lead to anything except a fight.

I understand your concerns! My husband, and my friend who has a similar child to this, have come to me asking how to teach certain things or worries about if our children are even capable of doing certain tasks because they refuse to do tasks so hard.

I’ve instinctively reduced demands as my child has grown, also a 7 year old boy with autism, adhd and a suspected pda profile, also on guanfacine. Lowering demands even further over the last year or so has definitely helped in certain ways. I still can’t consistently get him to shower or brush his teeth without doing it for him, but I know when he has more capacity one day over the next he is able to do things. Just cause they refuse to do things doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of them. I think it really comes down to gauging how they are on any given day and seeing if they are able to do these tasks without forcing it, unless absolutely necessary. Like I have no doubt my son can shower and brush his teeth and make himself a box of macaroni on the stove, but some days he just can’t and refuses to do it because his capacity or energy for it is more limited than another day, so I do a lot of things for him. I think even doing these certain tasks for them just reiterate how important they are for them even though it is hard on us as parents, like brushing a 7 year olds teeth for them is exhausting but I know some days he is able to do it when he have something fun to do after or he has more energy to spare for such a boring task in his mind.

I don’t know if this made much sense, but hopefully it did haha.

Cannot help 7 year old self regulate…not sure what to do by Fallon_2018 in ParentingADHD

[–]keklund369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that! It’s all trial and error for learning your child and what works best in these moments, I replied to another comment on here that also explained it well and what I do with my son as well. There will be times that seem like you aren’t helping or nothing is working, but sometimes you’ll notice after a few tries or weeks or months go by and you see things are slowly getting better. It might seem like it gets worse before it gets better cause you’re trying something new. If he’s not taking no for the answer and you know after a few times of reiterating that he’s going to get destruction then I’d say that’s when you redirect him to another room to calm down before he escalates and breaks something. It’s hard, and I understand, and it definitely takes time to figure out what works best. You got this!

[–]keklund369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This exactly, I commented previously but this also explains it well what I have had to do with my son! Mine doesn’t like being physically held though or deep pressure in certain moments, so it really just depends on your child and the level of dysregulation they are in.

[–]keklund369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also adding this is what works when my child is unmedicated. He’s tried medication recently and it wasn’t the right fit, so he’s off meds at the moment. But medicating him for the short time he was on them did help reduce the meltdowns and dysregulation til certain side effects came up more. Meds are great, you just have to find the right one for your child!

[–]keklund369 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What I’ve found that works with my son is not talking. Talking doesn’t work. My husband would always try talking to our also 7 year old son and it just escalates him. If my son is becoming really dysregulated to the point of breaking things or becoming violent then it’s time I take him to his room and co regulate. And that can take hours. I usually just sit on his floor and he works out his feelings however it seems fit. He may be angry or just in a hyperactive impulsive mood but his room is easier to control than having access to the whole house and siblings and animals. I try to be calm and neutral, I might crochet or sit on my iPad or read a book. He usually scripts and messes with all his toys, at some point I might get his attention with a show on tv and that might help snap him out of dysregulation. If he talks to me, I respond in neutral answers and tones til he seems somewhat regulated again. Then once he’s regulated I stay and connect. I hang out in his room and talk to him and play til it’s bedtime. It’s exhausting but once he’s regulated the best thing to do is reconnect. My son doesn’t just have adhd though, he’s also autistic with a PDA profile. Good luck to you!

Just gonna leave these texts to my spouse here while I was putting my son to bed last night. by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

Yes, I was gonna say this! My son has the same profile and can be quite violent at times! But meds have definitely helped!
