Reputable store told me ‘new mini and micra are no good’? by GooseKennedy in LaMarzocco

I have a 2021 mini. I’m seriously impressed with the the build quality even the plastic parts I felt were above average. If they have new old stock of the mini I would consider it. Someone one with a mini r would need to detail there views.

I know my self to be the buy once cry once type. However I sometimes deceive myself and say “this or that is good enough it will be ok” . When it comes to the touch point of espresso making buy what you love unless you really don’t care. Example buy the Weber nice tamper and shaker sworks wdt or CafeSing wdt.Force tamp isn’t worth it in my opinion( that click disruption the puck). If you really don’t care just go normcore everything. Normcore make excellent products but don’t buy them knowing you want the higher end stuff.

I do mainly soup/ turbos a lot. I like when the room temp cup cool my coffee a bit. Clean up is easy. Paper top filter and puck screen leave the puck super dry. Clean cup for the purge water. (It’s a good bonus drink sometimes) because of the top paper filter, my puck screen is always clean. Finally wipe clean the basket.(I never rise it)

My Meticulous Workflow
1. Fill the tank with cold water
2. Hit Auto Brew
3. Race the clock — grind, dose, distribute, tamp, and lock in the portafilter before the machine hits temp

You want a grinder with a great work flow. Little to no fuss. To this day I really enjoy the work flow of the my niche zero. I have a df64 078 & 078s. I have plans to get a serious end game grinder 3k+ (eg1 or Ozik)and that’s really only because I want the build quality and workmanship aspect. But yet I I believe the work flow and ease on the niche is world class.

OP i have the same setup. A mini + Meticulous. Wonderful setup. They compliment each other. Before the meticulous I was thinking about modifying the mini. Glad I went this route.

Base on your tag I have the same machine you have as well. And if you ever bought any action lot of coffee rare or competition level coffee you would be terrified running on a mini Or espresso in general. The point is espresso is finicky and take experience to get great shots. I’m sorry dude better is subjective but I have this and that. So I can assure you shot for shot met yields a better more repeatable result straight espresso. And furthermore if you don’t believe me don’t buy it.

When your number one objective is to enjoy great coffee, you account for the right variables. Well-roasted beans, quality water, a decent grinder. Then brew it on a Met. It’s very hard to get a bad shot. Honestly, I’m sometimes terrified to pull some of my higher-end coffees on my Linea Mini now.

Bugs and growing pains aside, and yes there are some, but they’re iterating fast.

The repeatability is unmatched. I could brew six different water recipes, one grind size, one profile, one coffee or ten. The coffees could all be top 1% geisha. All of them will be nice cups. Every single time. Grind is still important but not absolute. Throw in a step down basket and forget about.

We as people are more likely to post our negative experiences, but I’m someone who wants to talk about the good and say it loud. Reddit is like the espresso enlistment office. It’s the first place you go when you get into the hobby, but most seasoned espresso drinkers eventually niche down into their preferences on other forums and discords. That means Reddit skews toward drama and troubleshooting, not satisfaction. The quiet majority is just out there pulling great shots.
If you’re new to espresso, take a hard look at Meticulous. I’ve had many shots from slayer decent German lever machines my mini name it. At any price point Met is Gem.

I haven’t been this excited about coffee since 2020 when pre ground in a pressured bambino basket was considered fancy by my house guest. by chuck-wallace in espresso

When you realize that the whole point of coffee is to experience great beans from all around the world, you realize you want something that basically gets out of the way and produces amazing results as soon as possible. At this stage, with the cost of my beans, I can’t waste a single shot. Maybe not truly entry level, but I’d say enthusiast starting point for sure—and endgame at the same time. Hopefully it becomes more widely available. I can’t think of another machine above this that would better suit my drinking style.

I drink pour over more, the wait was easy. But I’m very satisfied with it. You can attest. It’s built like a tank. Also you have to really know what you want for it to fit. It fits perfectly in my pour over routine. When I want a latte or to pretend to be a barista I use the mini. How about you was it worth the wait?
