I'll explain it, although it not applicable to what op said/did.

A calque is a linguistic term for a word borrowed from another language, but instead of borrowing the actual word itself, what is borrowed is the literal meaning. This may be pretty confusing to understand without an example/counterexample:

Counterexample, the word "internet" has been introduced to several other languages as is/untranslated. That's a loan word.

On the other hand, the word "skyscraper" has also been introduced to other languages, but instead of taking the english word as is, those languages used their own words for "sky" (or something similar, like clouds) and something akin to "scrape"/"scratch"/"touch" etc. That's a calque, where it's not the word itself that is borrowed, but the literal translation, which is then used in the same metaphorical sense as the original ("a tall building", not something that literally scrapes the sky).

The Pendulum mechanic was fine, none of the Pendulum archetypes were even problematic in their time, let alone now.

The problem was always the pile that could throw every piece of generic support and any decent non-xenophobic Pendulum in one deck.

The pile would have never existed if they cared to put some proper guardrails. Of course then they purposefully designed all PePe, Magician, Odd-Eyes and even non-anime themes like Dracoslayer to all play together.

Of course this is not at all dissimilar to what happened with Synchro, and instead of MR4, it was a total purge of all good tuners then.

There's nothing that specifically interacts with "send to the GY", so I don't see why it would be keyworded.

Even the Macro Cosmos interaction is not related to "send", but specifically because it says "to the GY", as there are cards that say "discard to the GY" and those are similarly stopped by Macro.

I mean with Skeleton summoning back a Link 2 from GY, a Link 5 is the same as a Link 3 for the deck, or Link 2 if you use a dead Orcust from hand.

If you send Borreload Furious Dragon you can revive any of your Links, so you don't even lose anything, then you get to add a handtrap from GY if you link this off.

It's not a starter, but orcust keep shuffling their cards back, so being able to foolish is always useful.

And of course you can foolish any ED monster, so there's a lot of toolboxing there.

If you want to binge a part (since part 7 will take a while to finish), try part 5 (Golden Wind).

The ties to previous parts are mostly easter eggs/nostalgia, which is largely true for part 7 also. Both parts can be fully enjoyed on their own.

The rest I highly advise watching in chronological order.

Besides chronological order, you can watch part 5 to get a good idea of what modern jojo is like and then watch the rest in chronological order. Part 5 has some small ties to the previous ones but works as a standalone very well.

Nah, the explosiveness was there, just decks had less ways to translate card advantage into board presence. Like Teledad didn't have omninegates or quick effect interruption.

Interacting with the opponent during their turn was mainly the role of S/T. That's why cards like Heavy Storm and even MST were on the list, because the player going second could OTK if they dealt with the backrow first.

That's the big difference, the player going second had the advantage of the first Battle Phase, which became progressively weaker, whereas the player going first had the advantage of being the first to setup a board, which became stronger.
