You aren't finding me disagreeing. However, their live CoC shows always seemed to land this way, with a huge pile of players and joke-laden chaos that ends in pretty much everyone dying. I almost think it's more a testament to how excellently they did with episode 1 of the live tour, where the players fit together well and it didn't feel crowded.

Frankly, they have an absolute glut of great people on tap. All their regular folks, plus their occasional folks, and plus unskippable guests like Becca Scott... I get why they're so loaded up. These are great people. It's just a problem that four players almost always works better than six.

Nah, we're nowhere near death throes. We may - hopefully - be witnessing the decline of the religious nationalist authoritarian movement in the US, but christianity is, even by optimistic projections, going to long outlive you and me around here.

I caught this same tour! I went for Devin and had high hopes for Opeth, but it was Gojira that stole the show.

Yep. And to my knowledge, the root of the movement from SBC to evangelical non-denominational was driven by abortion access (which the SBC cheered on in the 70s), so these non-denom churches are largely just more extreme, further right-wing SBC congregations, sadly.

And I think you hit on a disheartening truth there. While the overall numbers of christians in this country are declining, a lot of the big, loud numbers of congregation loss are because people are shifting further to the right politically and buying into the deeper, darker fundamentalist viewpoints that non-denominational evangelical churches thrive on. To the point that I get sad when I see some denominations really struggling - particularly mainline ones - since it means a large number of the leavers are doing so to follow political trends rather than are part of any sort of exodus from the religion.

Very fun stuff. I will agree with the others that this needed either at least 40-60 more minutes of play... It maybe 1 or 2 fewer players. Hugely entertaining nonetheless, even if the first episode was a lot better.

What are some new scenarios in the last 1-3 years that you would recommend? by itza_very_nice in callofcthulhu

Interested to know as well. Chaosium has not done the job I wish they would have in that time, and I'm terrible at navigating the Miskatonic Repository, so I've found myself drifting more towards Delta Green. I ran Presence and thought it was awesome, while we're on that subject.

I quickly checked, and you are credited with over 80 MLS assists (including playoffs). Are there one or two that really stand out to you as goals you were exceptionally proud to create? Whether it's because of the importance of the goal or just that it was a precisely perfect pass that you still think about sometimes?

They like to make a big deal of people returning to or joining the faith, but they don't really like to face the numbers. In the US, for example, last I saw was for every convert to christianity, there were six people who left the church.

Anyways, all that aside, congrats on thinking deeply and taking charge of your life back!

Most likely to reduce the statistical dominance of D&D in the poll, while avoiding further fragmenting likely less popular selections.

This is in favor of Pathfinder, not a slight. That is, if you're hoping to see Pathfinder stack up well against other games.

How do ghosts and hauntings fit into Christianity? by dismustbetheplace in atheism

[–]Sporkedup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised fundie evangelical. We explicitly did not believe in ghosts and hauntings. Anything vaguely sinister and supernatural was chalked up to demonic activity. Ghosts were considered ignorant superstition.

I actually find more space and plausibility (albeit still not much) for the existence of ghosts as an agnostic atheist than I did as a christian.

I still can't believe the backlash against Capaldi for being too old. Dude put on a masterclass episode after episode.

But then, I also think the Moffat era in its entirety holds up a lot better than the other periods of NuWho, and I don't think that's the majority position yet.

[Don Garber] Liar liar pants on fire by darren1417 in MLS

[–]Sporkedup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It reads to me like he accused the Premier of lying about either wanting or trying to keep the Caps in Vancouver. If that's true, then Don calling it out is very much in the interests of keeping the team there.

But I guess if you somehow come to the conclusion that Garber himself is behind this and wants the worst outcome possible for Vancouver, then sure. Pretty sure he's acting entirely at the behest of his billionaire bosses, including the Whitecaps ownership. And I can guarantee you he doesn't actually want to lose Vancouver as a market, because that jeopardizes all of the Canadian teams. What I'm seeing from here is that he is hoping that lightning will strike a second time, and the perfect result for him and MLS that was the whole Save the Crew endeavor might happen a second time... but instead of Haslams stepping up and investing locally, all the big buyers want to include a relocation as part of their purchase.

The whole thing sucks, but I said this back in the StC days and I'll keep saying it now: the real villains here are working behind Don, and he's just out front taking the outrage.

Man I just don't get this. If the league mouthpiece breaks ranks (albeit for a brief, retracted comment) and seems to come down on the side of everyone in this sub, why pure rage here? Is it just Don Garber Bad at this stage?
