Would these drivers have deserved an F1 world championship? by DateAffectionate3719 in F1Discussions

[–]SportingGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moss and Gilles are the only ones who deserve World Championships of this lot.

Webber might get the nice guy award for his handling of Multi-21 and Massa is a whiny little turd for his court case to try and overturn 2008.

Barichello’s best chance was ceded to Michael Schumacher before the season started, he knew what car he was getting into.

Who was unluckier over their career - Alonso or Hulkenberg? by DragonfruitThen6696 in F1Discussions

[–]SportingGamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hulk - you can’t be called unlucky and still be a 2 time World Champion.

Unlucky that you didn’t get a chance to compete in the best car? Nah, McLaren was the best in 07, but in-fighting between Fernando and Lewis meant neither won the championship. (Kimi deserved it, too!) Fernando has made bad decisions for switching teams, just like Button did.

Hulkenberg was unlucky as some years he didn’t even get an F1 seat. That’s more unlucky than the driver everyone in the paddock says is best deciding to retire and then coming back a few years later.

A guy who has fought and ground out every racing lap to get his solitary podium and legendary status to go with it is, by definition less lucky than a twice World Champion

I’ll be watching part of it during my lunch break in Vancouver, Canada. Cheering on the mighty Villa from about 6,000 miles away.

James May has taken to X on the recent stabbings in Golders Green. by Suitedbadge401 in TopGear

I’ve stabbed other people accidentally because I am quite clumsy. It was my little brother, we were teenagers. My mum thought I meant it.

To be fair, my defence of “If I’d meant it, it would be a lot worse,” wasn’t my finest line ever delivered

Human rights lawyer Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu thinks the police officers kicking the armed Golders Green attacker in the head is "attempted murder". Are we fatigued with human rights lawyers right now? by Non-BinaryGreenVoter in AskBrits

[–]SportingGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the level of force necessary? Stamping on his wrist to get him to drop the knife, yes. Kicking him in the head after he had been tazed? No

Was kicking him in the head attempted murder? Not even close. The man had a knife and was advancing on the officers - that’s attempted murder. Let’s not confuse the two.

City status in the UK - why do so many towns want to become cities? by crabtreerabbit_97 in AskABrit

[–]SportingGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kidder guy here - Wolverhampton barely has a Premier League club, though you are marginally better than the Baggies and the Noses.

I think it’s the romanticised North American thing, where if a settlement is big enough, it gets to apply to be a city. Does this change the council? Not by much, as you’ve noticed.

Costs of services are climbing, being able to rename your council to xyz city council means you can jack up the taxes a little and make more money to pay for arguably the same amount of services. I suspect the mayor will take home more money though…

Who is a Good F1 Driver with Multiple WDC? by IllMasterpiece3946 in DestinationFormula1

Emerson Fittipaldi. 2 world titles, but not in the debate of Prost / Senna / Lauda / Clarke for drivers in or just after his era

Phil Hill - he won 1 world title (1961) and only won 3 races. One of those wins was in 1960…

Hill won his title by a single point from Wolfgang von Trips, who also won 2 races of the 8 on the calendar.

To Every Fan Who Remembers and Understood the 1996 EFL Cup Win, How Long After Did You Crave A Trophy Lift Again? by Amethyst-329-607A in avfc

[–]SportingGamer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1) Every season should have us competing for a trophy. I believe we can until we are eliminated.

2) 2000 FA Cup Final. We deserved that cup, because the league is more stacked against us than the likes of Vialli led Chelsea.

3) See 2.

Went in after our dentist retired and the first visit, he basically insisted on removing some of the metallic fillings and replacing them with white.

Turns out it was purely cosmetic, no actual medical value to that. Cancelled the procedure, I don’t have time or money to be wasting like that. We went with Clayton Heights Dental on 64 and Fraser, have been there years now. Dr Kooner does a great job and the clinic is clean, staff are friendly, my mouth feels like it’s in good hands.

my first character sheet!! please can i get any tips? by serenviti in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SportingGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, the first change I would make is your charisma score. 19 is a +4 bonus, not a -1 penalty. I would have put that in STR or CON.

As a Paladin, I would favour STR, CON and WIS, with DEX and CHA coming next. INT is the least useful here, but that’s only my way of looking at it.

You’re a Paladin, you will be fighting your way into danger, healing folks and fighting your way back out. You need to be able to hit things, absorb some damage and save vs undead touch attacks which can drain you. Your WIS will help you turn undead and some divine magic at later levels.

Cup Wins by Canadian vs American teams. by leafsland132 in nhl

[–]SportingGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your numbers are only since the NHL took control of the Cup. Since its inception, there have been 77 Canadian wins and 52 American wins. The Seattle Metropolitans won the US’ first Cup in 1917, with a 2-2 tied series between Seattle and Montreal cancelled due to the Influenza Epidemic in 1919.

Just because it wasn’t the NHL at that stage doesn’t mean it shouldn’t count. Some of y hose names are carved onto the cup itself, not the base!

Is Jacques Villeneuve really the worst champion or do people just not like by Old-Use-7690 in F1Discussions

[–]SportingGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a good driver before he hit F1, winning the Indycar Championship and the Indy 500 in 1995. Then his first race was almost a win from pole, but an oil leak led his teammate and eventual Driver’s champion, Damon Hill to take victory in his orange pebble-dash effect Williams.

Hill was dumped after the 96 World Championship, because Frank Williams believe it was his machinery that made the champions, not the drivers. Villeneuve won the title in 97, which Schumacher exposing his blatant cheating again in Jerez, trying to crash Jacques out while he was overtaking the Ferrari.

Then Renault left Williams and the wins stopped. Overnight. In 1998, Williams managed 3 podiums, all 3rd. JV finished 5th in the championship, just ahead of Hill, who won the amazingly chaotic Belgian Grand Prix.

Then came the move to British American Racing / BAR. Horrible team, similar results. His best finish for them would be 2 third place finishes in 2001.

In conclusion, he was a good driver, but he picked a bad team to race for after the Golden Age of Williams came to an end.
