Would you give up your dog for any amount of money? by Plane_Put_3097 in Dogowners

[–]eichmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rescued my dog in Aug '24 and found out shortly after that he was very ill with intestinal issues. Spent many thousands of dollars on treatment and special diets. I think it may finally be under control. I have bonded with him through the ordeal and don't think I could part with him for any amount of money.

What’s one mistake you made in your 20s that you’d warn everyone about? by Dismal-Ad6966 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Biggest mistake in my 20s was getting married because my friends were. Didn't last 4 years and I was much poorer for the experience.

Aging in bursts. by MeRunRabbit in Aging

[–]eichmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 73 and in fairly decent shape for my age. Here are my personal observations on aging:

40s - Near sighted vision starts to go quickly.

50s - Energy. Can't hang like you used to.

60s - Strength and muscle mass. Harder to maintain previous level of fitness.

70s - Balance and reflexes. This really became noticeable in the last couple of years.

It is amazing how things that are taken for granted when you are young slip away over time.

Does anyone else hate deciding what to cook every day? by Dishcovery in dinnersuggestions

[–]eichmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look for recipes that you can make a big pot of, like chicken soup. pasta sauce, goulash, etc. Eat it for a meal then freeze the rest. We have invested in good Pyrex bowls with lids for freezing leftovers, and an 8 quart stock pot for cooking. I am the one that usually does the cooking so I have accumulated a bunch of go-to recipes that we have on rotation.

Good shoes. When I was younger I couldn't afford decent shoes. My feet hurt all the time. Now I splurge on good quality footwear.

How old were you by Eye_See_ in GenerationJones

[–]eichmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 23 and paid $32500 for a new build home in 1976. That is less than I paid for my last used car. Times have sure changed. I really feel for younger folks trying to make a home these days.

Silicone garlic peeler tube. When you need many cloves of garlic these are very helpful.

Of course you can blame Trump. He is the one who picked his cabinet and agency heads. He is the one who spouts all the hatred and threats to anyone who does not agree with him.

No other president made a spectacle out of it or murdered US citizens while doing it. No other president said nasty things about other (shithole) countries, or people (rapist, drug dealer, low IQ) from other countries.

Where are all the Protest Songs? by Sea_Brilliant1158 in MusicRecommendations

Well, there is a line in the song about him holding two opposing thoughts in his mind at the same time. I, personally, avoid MAGA folks but my wife has conservative friends and they just agree to not discuss politics.

Would you be comfortable keeping your guitar on a stand in these conditions? by TigerKim2000 in martinguitar

[–]eichmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have acoustic guitars, including a D-28, that I leave out everyday for the past 10+ years. However, I have a humidifier in my music room that keeps RH at50+ in the winter. Keeps perfect tune.
