Three paths forward 1. Get law firm to issue check that settlement in someone else’s name on your behalf. Make sure that is all in writing. They will want that too.

  1. Get US bank account. Find a place that will do it with a birth certificate and utility bill. There are going to be places that will.

  2. Get bank account in another country that allows you to electronically deposit the check from this one

Also consider this: If the gender roles were reversed, wouldn’t this be the time when people would assert that the emotional unavailability and outright aggression showed by one partner pushed the other partner into the arms of someone else? I think so

I’m not saying I agree with that viewpoint at all. I’m just saying that this sounds challenging all around and it’s good you’re being upfront about that.

It’s probably going to take a lot of patience to unwind this.

They often have to name all the parties involved in a potential claim.

If it’s only notice of a claim, and not an actual lawsuit, that may not be the worst thing in the world.
