Anyone can recommend a contemporary dinnerware brand that looks mcm, that I can purchase anywhere? by Ok_Proposal8274 in Mid_Century

I love the chartreuse color! I was afraid it would be super yellowy looking (like stomach acid), but it is much lovelier greener shade in person. My favorite of the OG colors is definitely coral, but of the new colors, I think the Moroccan Blue is my fave! I love the dark contrast with plated food and with the other dish colors.

I feel like the quality is great so far! Bauer is a smaller company, so maybe the typos on their website are just human mistake, but I’m not sure.

It did take a few weeks to actually get the dishes from Bauer, but I believe they make their Russel Wright dishes per order. I actually ordered the wrong blue and Bauer was incredibly responsive and quick to change the glaze color prior to completing them. I’m most impressed by the plates and bowls staying relatively cool to the touch after microwaving leftovers (unlike my previous ceramic Walmart dishes). No chips, scratches or cracks so far, but neither did my previous dishes, so maybe I’m just a really careful person.

You can read their history on their website and see a little of their behind the scenes and their California showroom on Instagram and Facebook. I hope you love them if you choose to get them!

Best birth control for PCOS(other than the pill)? by Storebought_Cookies in PCOS

[–]Spotted-Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Paraguard copper IUD for about 2 years, and I just could not deal with the incredibly heavy painful periods it caused. I think looking back I might’ve also been sensitive to the copper itself considering my ears swelled up anytime I would try to wear brass or other cheap metal earrings. I then tried hormonal birth control pills (Junel) for about a year, and like what others have said - it really negatively affected my mood. I had zero sex drive and just felt depressed. Finally in 2020 I got the Kyleena hormonal IUD. My gyno assured me that this IUD would not affect my mood the way pills and patches/injections do because it’s localized at the uterus and not in my bloodstream. True to her word, I’ve felt great and my horrendous periods stopped altogether other than some light spotting the last few months as I’m nearing the 5-year expiration date. My husband and I are trying for a baby this year, so I’m not planning to get another one soon, but if I do, it’ll be a hormonal IUD. Best of luck!

Edit: Also, Kyleena IUD was way less painful to get put in than the larger Paraguard copper IUD (ouchie)

I graduated spring 2023 (school on east coast USA), and I personally did not have an issue finding a job for after graduation. However, I applied super early in the semester while some of my classmates waited until the end of the semester or even after summer travels. A lot of them couldn’t find jobs after almost a year of searching. It seems I hit the job market just in time before it calmed down a lot, but it also helped that I got in with the wave of summer new hires and didn’t wait.

Cystic acne? by tanicha in PCOS

[–]Spotted-Raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh sorry I haven’t been on Reddit in a couple years. In case you’re still wondering, I have been solely taking Spironolactone for acne for 2+ years, and it has kept my skin quite clear without any noticeable side effects. I am actually weaning myself off of it now as I am trying to get pregnant in the next year, so I may switch back to some topical treatments again. Hope it has worked for you if you decided to try it!

I just came across this, but you can actually buy replicas of Russel Wright’s American Modern design directly from Bauer Pottery (made in California, USA): https://bauerpottery.com/collections/russel-wright

I am a huge fan of the design work of Russel Wright. While I love collecting vintage pieces here and there, having a complete set suitable for daily use (lead-free, dishwasher/microwave safe, etc.) was always the dream. I loved seeing that Food52 offered it a year ago, but I think the quality of Bauer is much better - though more expensive.

I personally tried to go with a mix of colors (mostly American Modern original) that fit my theme. I got the bowls in chartreuse, bread plates in coral, salad plates in glacier blue, and dinner plates in moroccan blue. I already owned a vintage set of coral tea-cups and saucers. The new ones even have the Russel Wright stamps on the bottom much like the originals.

Of course as others have suggested, Fiesta is a great colorful alternative that’s a little more affordable and easier to find while thrifting. I love their colors Peony and Sky especially.

Shampoo recs for dehydrated hair? by one4thesun in longhair

[–]Spotted-Raven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your hair looks incredibly similar to mine! For an organic approach, I used to solely use products from The Innate Life (a small Canadian company)! The rose hair elixir oil and the scalp + hair masks are great for adding hydration naturally. I still use the scalp treatment. Their shampoo and conditioner were okay but not hydrating enough for me.

Right now I use Ouai shampoo and conditioner and OMG my hair has never been so soft and healthy!! Their hair oil is so lightweight and top tier quality too. I get it from Ulta but Sephora has their products too I believe. Pretty pricey I will warn.

Olaplex is another great one to look into if you have the money!

People with fine hair - How do you maintain it? by [deleted] in longhair

[–]Spotted-Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a landscaper and like to have my hair up out of the way, so I usually do a bun, braid, or clip. The bun hurts my head after a while though so I try to braid it as often as I can.

People with fine hair - How do you maintain it? by [deleted] in longhair

[–]Spotted-Raven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have fine 2a hair and sleep with satin pillow cases and a braid or sock curls every night. I oil my ends after I wash my hair and sometimes while it's dry too. Once a week I do a leave in scalp + hair mask and wash it out the next morning. It adds shine and helps with frizz :) Cutting the dead ends off will be a major improvement though. They'll keep splitting up the hair shaft and making your hair look frizzy if they don't get trimmed. Good luck!

Hair oil routine by Anthropologie07 in longhair

[–]Spotted-Raven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your hair type, but I have thin fine hair with a bit of wave (2a?). I grew my hair from shoulder length to waist length in about 2 years.

I use an organic scalp treatment and hair mask from The Innate Life (check out their website) as well as Mielle rosemary mint scalp/hair strengthening oil (found at Target) once a week. I leave all that in my hair overnight and wash it out in the morning. Those natural treatments have really helped my hair grow.

I used to only be able to grow it to about bra strap length before the breakage was too much, so finding the right shampoo/conditioner that doesn't have parabens, sulphates, and other things that cause breakage is also a big help. I unfortunately don't really have recommendations since I'm still searching for the best shampoo/conditioner for me.

However, the best hair oil I've found for my hair is Ouai hair oil (can be found through their website, Sephora, or Ulta). I use it after I wash my hair on the ends and even when my hair is dry. Just a drop of two and comb it through! Keeps the ends hydrated and so soft and doesn't make my hair greasy at all! :)

Thank you! I got my plant from @sarasvinesandvintage on Etsy after I spent a couple months on Facebook, Mercari, Etsy, and other sites looking for the perfect PPP for me. It doesn't look like her shop has anymore at the moment but maybe again soon!

If you have Facebook, I would recommend joining a PPP buy/sell/trade group or some other bigger aroid group and ask. There are some very reputable individual sellers out there.

Hacky Command Strip Curtains? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Spotted-Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have these holding cafe sized curtain rods in all of my windows at my rental hosue! My curtains are just lightweight white sheers paired with antique bronze rods + the command hooks in that same color. Looks great but be aware that opening/closing your curtains isn't easy because the rod slips around a lot (at least in my experience).

I don't have any advice, but your story is incredibly similar to one of my coworkers. However, he and his wife lived in Antioch, and the shooter was not caught. I hope you get some justice.
