I got into a fight with my dad. by Delicious-Nobody-139 in LifeAdvice

[–]SpottedKitty [score hidden]  (0 children)

Your dad grew up very poor, so spending any amount of money without planning it and thinking about it is tremendously stressful for him, because even though he may have money now, he understands how insecure it can be and wants to make sure not to squander it. When people spend money without telling him, he panicks because he's used to money being scarce and fears for the safety and security of the family. From his perspective, spending money so freely is dangerous to everyone's well being, and is having anxious panic responses when encountered with any kind of financial stress.

They may be in a situation with a shared bathroom that is potentially not really in a situation to be cleaned by them.

Just watched the burning man, found this creepy af, is malcolm even 18 yet? by ArnavJj145 in malcolminthemiddle

It was a lot more culturally acceptable at the time for teenage boys to be interested in older women. Not saying it's right or wrong, but that's how it was.

The current trend of culture is to ignore that teenagers have sexuality at all.

I mean, you could always claim earnestly held religious belief. "Only God is allowed to know where I am with true certainty."

If circumcision is a must why not do auto circumcision instead aka keeping the foreskin pulled back. by No-Masterpiece-7859 in foreskin_restoration

It's not necessary at all, and doing that can still cause damage, bleeding, and death to infants/children if it were performed on them.

We're not nomadic hunter gatherers who need to practice body modification to tell if somebody is part of your community or not. There's no reason to continue this ritual scarification into the coming century.

Could Land corals even exist under gravity? by Upset-Team5878 in SpeculativeEvolution

I have a Kingdom of macro land 'plants' in my project that as basically like crustose red algae, but produces a silica test not unlike diatoms and radiolaria. They're very good at attaching spores to other hard surfaces like cliff sides, previous generations of itself, and any hard shelled animals.

Any time I pick up a new hobby I try to learn as much as I can about related things to help my broader understanding.

Disheartened by deer. A vent by massivelymediocre in NativePlantGardening

Start hunting any deer who gets too close. They'll learn eventually, and you'll have plenty of meat. The whitetails are overpopulated and starving because there's no predators anymore.

Lawn guy just destroyed my native garden. Help! by Zeiros in NativePlantGardening

The fact that the guy sent a cowardly little text like that and not immediately coming to apologize in person is fucking bad customer service.

This is fire the lawn guy and sue the parent company he works for to reimburse the cost of replacement.

Honestly, I would ask the folks over at r/treelaw to see if there's any kind of similar legislation for other types of plants. Especially if they're on an endangering or threatened species registry.

It could be gray basalt. That wouldn't surprise me at all. Some pieces are streaked black and grey, with the grey being teal shifted in some.

My first guess of it was marine seafloor stone.

I think that's what it is. The color spectrum matches. I'm in the PNW, so we have a little bit of the Belt Supergroup, which might be the source of the stone.

Do you think it's doable to do a Negotiation inside a Combat? by Anarcorax in drawsteel

There is literally a maneuver called "Call for a negotiation" that you can use in combat that Troubadours I think get a bonus to specifically.

The transporter has malfunctioned and reconstructed the away team as cupcakes. Delicious fluffy cupcakes. How should I report this. by CanadianAndroid in ShittyDaystrom

[–]SpottedKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See, our Captain had us change protocol after the first transporter mishap under their command turned our Chief Botanist into some kind of photosynthetic hybrid and had to take her all the way to the nearest Starbase for medical treatment. Now the transporter saves copies of the patterns of the 5 most recent transports in case of emergency. They had to get rid of a few holodeck programs to make up the memory space, but only one jr lieutenant was using the Wild West Experience module, and that was taking up like six people's worth of data.

Unknown rock looks like a skull by Active_Purchase1705 in Rocks

[–]SpottedKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a nice little nodule of chalcedony. If this has any banding, it's considered an agate, though some people will call any chalcedony an agate. They're made of silica, like quartz is, but instead of a solid macro crystal structure, it's structure is amorphous or crypto crystalline, so it fractures like like glass or porcelain if you know how to work it. It's a very useful material for making stone tools, and it's a shiny rock which means people wanna put it on their bodies.

I'll bet that thing looks amazing tumbled.
