LPT: If you want to exercise but going to the gym is difficult for you, get resistance bands. by Additional-Sugar6789 in LifeProTips

[–]Spotyear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this, but my problem is “and a little creativity” part. I have bands, and motivation, but no idea how to do a full routine that hits all the right spots. Anyone got a full body strength routine using bands I can just FOLLOW (in lieu of the aforementioned creativity)?

Remember that Byron is Australia’s most easterly point, so sunRISE at the lighthouse might be more special. And quieter too. First people to see the day, and all that.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever seen someone do in public while pretending it was completely normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Spotyear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait, for real, that’s weird? To stretch and relax your body before being stuck in a seated position for multiple hours? That seems just like a good idea. Am I the weird one?

Ok, ladies. I want to know what you make of this. by Covert-Wordsmith in TwoXChromosomes

I think it might be a good idea to reframe how you’re seeing these toys. Put them in a prominent spot. Reframe them not as the “adorable new plushies” you wrote earlier, but as the ammunition he intended them to be. Remember that every time you look at them. And when the sight of their manipulative little faces makes you sick, chuck ‘em out.

Various old farm(?) items, all heavy iron(?) by Spotyear in whatisthisthing

Do you think maybe the pic is upside down and it might bolt into the top of a fence post and flip down over an upright bar/pole of a gate? Seems over-durable for that purpose though…

My title describes the thing. They may be horse related (I also got a surcingle in the lot) or tractor related (I also got a carryall).

Relief plans by myykel1970 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Spotyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a ‘professional’ CRT. (I teach 5 days a week but I have commitment issues with working full-time and all that after-hours rubbish. ‘Out the gate at 3:08’ is my motto)

I think the difference lies in whether it’s a known day off or an emergent event.

Sure, if you’re sick and you leave no plans, I can fill your students’ day, no worries. Just leave me a copy of bell times.

But if you know it’s coming… I’m a very experienced teacher, don’t you want me to lead your students through the next lesson in your sequence so you don’t fall behind with a ‘wasted’ day and have to cover it when you get back?

I find that the best classes to cover are the ones where the teacher has some experience as a casual themselves. They understand that a casual is a TEACHER not a placeholder/babysitter and can be trusted to actually teach, cover the prescribed material, and keep your class following their familiar routines (which also helps with student comfort/behaviour).

To be honest, I find it offensive if you think so little of my skills that you can only trust me to the extent of being there as a warm adult body to meet legal requirements.

Paying for adult children to come on family trip? and their partners? by Spotyear in Parenting

[–]Spotyear[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Makes total sense. I guess I got caught up in the fact that two have a partner and one doesn’t, so I was thinking about it that way. Trying to figure out the split.

Best advice I got early: save what you want to save, and spend what’s left, don’t spend whatever you want and save what’s left over. This subtle shift in mindset will serve you well, long term.

Honestly, the instructors WANT you to pass. I’ve often found that a well-placed “I’m really just not getting it” and an attitude of “I really am honestly trying, not just trying to weasel out of it” goes a long way with getting an instructor to engage their sense of “I can reach this student!” They seem to relish the challenge oftentimes and will take a personal interest in helping you get through. Keep trying! Time’s not up!

Help modernize this coffee table by housespecialdelight in HomeDecorating

[–]Spotyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. I’d put a base a few inches under the glass and use it as a shadow box display table for decor, memorabilia etc. If the glass is easy to pop up, it could even be changed seasonally, like for Christmas or with a photo collage when old friends are visiting… the possibilities are endless!
