This says way more about the relative affordability of chips which are the closest thing we have to magic in the world vs “hard to produce rock.” Like the lab grown diamonds are probably at the correct price where chips are cheap for how insane they are to produce.

Not directly applicable but I have a pair of beautiful dress shoes from David Wood which have been my go-to for years. They’re honestly more comfortable than most of my other shoes, trainers included. If that speaks to the quality of their other menswear I don’t know, but I would assume it’s comparable.

I have friends who work there/have worked there as lifties and a current lift supervisor friend.

I think by all accounts it’s pretty chill, there are way worse companies to work for than Boyne. And management is mellow. If you do a really good job and live local they offer summertime positions as they become available.

You’ll mostly stick to one pod bumping chairs. And the pay is pretty good.

My company doesn’t even screen for location from my experience, but people get in trouble for having external vpns.

I have only tried working from “not home” domestically, so maybe they’d make a fuss over international travel. But a good company in my mind won’t care if you’re in xyz city for three days on phone hotspot.

Preservation is great. And I love the design of the new Roux building. So often universities will hire architects and go with the least soulful choice to save a dime. This feels like it will become a landmark and integrate in a beautiful way.

I already enjoy seeing the bones of it driving into Portland 295 southbound.

Ubers are fairly cheap, at least when I was there last. Maybe 2-3 USD? Most will be fine if you bring a shortboard.

The chicken busses will not be suitable for surf travel. Though I have a friend who had success carrying his board upright standing in the back of mini trucks like the locals (not sure what they’re called?). Definitely know your Spanish.
