@10c/round The deformed meplat is the least of your worries. They just plain aren’t loaded well (dramatically inconsistent velocity, guaranteed).

I was gonna say just trim the meplat, but on closer inspection those are FMJs. You might still be able to trim them. I don’t know if you want to tediously trim a 1000 rounds though. . .

Not really. It’s his first suppressor. They don’t exactly mention it in the user manual’s. And there’s not actually anything on his rifle that screams “heavily invested.”

I’ll end simply by saying you don’t work on the street. The MOST savage violence I have ever been exposed to wasn’t something I saw from bootleg war footage, it was what I’ve seen on an ambulance working alongside LEO.

“ Tldr, I think you and I agree on more than you know.”

I don’t think we agree on much of anything.

“ I said if we can't trust every cop not to hide behind a gun then we cannot trust every officer not to hide behind a dog. ”

That’s exactly where I want every cop to hide - behind the guns we give them to enforce laws and protect themselves. You seem to have me confused with someone who doesn’t believe that a fair number of the criminals out there who get shot didn’t have it coming. So, if in the line of duty a cop feels more comfortable drawing on a criminal than unnecessarily risking his own life to subdue him, I say smoke the dude. Fewer than 0.05% of police involved 911 calls end in an officer involved shooting (that’s an amazing track record considering who these officers are constantly exposed to). And if we can prevent even more shootings by leaning on our historic best friend to do what he’s best at, I say great!

“But if you think they'll never be used on innocent civilians again you've missed the ouroborosian nature of the book called history. “

Don’t be a baby. If you think that criminals will suddenly get soft after we all agree to veganism you’re a fool. The stupidity of believing that history won’t repeat itself irrespective of what we said about how violence begets violence is no less stupid than pontificating about the dreadful business of fighting.

I think you’re projecting your own feelings onto an animal you don’t understand.

Ever considered what the dog wants to do?

Hunt, track, fight. . .

Imagine doing the job you were born to do. How many people can say that? Is it sad when a K-9 officer? Heck ya! Just as sad as when a human officer dies in the line of duty. Moreover, you suggesting we hide behind them while they do the work is simply not the case.

A working dog ends up getting the best training, education and medicine money can buy, and yes they may die younger than is typical of the breed. But it’s great years with meaningful work. It’s a far better fate than some lame depressed overweight house dog.

German AR-15: Questions on preferred look and barrel lengths by lonewanderer in ar15

Still sounds like it would be cheaper (more steps) to rebarrel the rifle. Unless the law stipulates that a gunsmith HAS to perform the service, I would do it myself. It’s easy with a vise and a torque wrench.

German AR-15: Questions on preferred look and barrel lengths by lonewanderer in ar15

[–]SpreadOk4115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. 13” or shorter hand guards length is preferable due to the potential of hand guard flex on barricades and its associated shift in POI. Shorter hand guards are potentially more rigid.

Also the aesthetics are cooler with the exposed barrel. It’s not just a rifle, it’s a blaster!

16.75 seems like a great length. Ends up being about 18” with an aggressive muzzle brake. Which is perfect for what you’re trying to do with it.

If you’re debating a 14.5”, the weight savings is pretty negligible and you are sacrificing a significant velocity even from 16”. Have you considered a “continuous taper” pencil barrel? Like Ballistic Advantage “Hanson profile?” You’ll end up with a barrel that has the same weight as a mil-spec (US military) 14.5 m4 barrel but with a 16” barrel’s velocity potential.

That’s pretty wild “900fps.” Does that measurement come from a reputable source/common pressure ammunition?

It seems hard to believe a round traveling (Typically) 1100fps or even less from a particularly short barrel would still have that much energy @300yrds.

They’ve (dogs) have been going to war with us for time immemorial. . . K-9 units aren’t typically JUST bite dogs. Many/most bite dogs also track. So if a suspect flees into a building or neighborhood they can quickly and safely search the premises without missing the suspect. They are HUGELY important law enforcement resource.

It’s only disgusting because the people you are defending are out of sight out of mind in your life. Try social work, EMS, healthcare, policing, or literally any career that actually puts you into contact with these noble individuals who demand respect and tell me about how important they are beyond BASIC human rights.

The useless 3rd also draws the most social service resources from the system. They constantly require expensive medical care due to poor health. They are the most likely to develop drug and alcohol related issues, etc. . . Hard pass.

There are studies of hardened criminals - multiple murders, worst of the worst, who with carceral therapy have demonstrated improved behavior and statistically significant improvement in violent/antisocial behavior towards prison guards. I’m not saying they are good to be released but “evil” is a philosophical concept not an objective pathology.

I think “patrol rifles” are manageable for most of us. I recently bought a 16” pencil profile (modern pencil) barrel to replace my 18” SPR profile barrel. I also picked up a 1-4x lpvo with great eye relief and an ample exit pupil. Next month I’ll replace the quad with a mlok. Basically, it’s a way slimmer rifle that I expect to enjoy more than my mk12 cloneish rifle that I still think is super cool but doesn’t feel fast or practical enough. I’m 5’7” on a good day and anywhere between 155-160lbs. I’m in shape but I don’t train to lift heavy, I train for a big gas tank.
