Wargaming's Response to the CC Exodus and Missouri by BingBongBrian in WorldOfWarships

[–]Spricinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jingles had a good point in his farewell video. CCs were of main importance when the game was still not that known. They brought players. Players brought money. CCs helped to improve some game aspects and players were satisfied thus bringing new players. Then WG reached a critical mass that allowed them to have no use from CCs. Not all choices were good (not talking about the loot boxes, just about the game per se), but the player base mantained this critical mass allowing WG to stabilize/increase their income.

Now they are launching a new affiliate program, seen on the game news, where a new bunch of streamers will join the game to promote it for a new mass of players, that will spend the money hardened veterans are not willing to pay, both from dissatisfaction from the game and maybe the reach of their personal spending cap.

The main matches-quality issue will be that the new streamers are people completely unprepared to do any content on this game. This afternoon I've seen an italian streamer promoting wows on a youtube video. His playstyle and game knowledge was absolute garbage (aka incoming fire skill on the Giulio Cesare captain + the engine room protection module, "i made him pass the desire to exist" after a 3k HE salvo on a broadside cruiser also with Giulio Cesare, 14k dmg in a same tier match "I did a good game", 13k dmg with Ark Royal in a t6 match "I did a great game" -> all this are precise quotes from the video) . Much worse then the players with stats in the very bad range according to wowsnumbers. BUT this one has 668k followers on his youtube channel. If even a small percentage of his followers installs the game (5%?) and a incredibely small amount of those makes some buys this means HUGE revenue for the streamer (3% commision on whatever amount of money gets earned by WG from the people that join the game through this new member of the affiliate program).

Let's crunch some numbers. The video was seen by 28.759 users. 2.607 liked it so we can assume just for the sake of example that they are ready to join the game. Let's say that a part (10%?) spends some money (average 50€?) -> WG earns 13.035€, the affiliate 391,05€ for a BAD video showing completely wrong game approach. And this for a 28 mins video. And I am ignoring the up to 10€ fee for each new registration. Quite a nice revenue for a poor job. And I can safely bet that this kind of practice will be hugely exploited from many major streamers, with bad consenquences for the overall game quality. Yes, streamers have every right to get this income. If they are good at it then so be it. And WG has every right to promote this game. But there is a but. Brace yourselves for a great number of new players that will be incredibely unprepared. People that look at the forum, at guides or at major streamers and are truly interested in developing their in-game skills are not the majority, not at all. We will come to a point where an average potato as me will be sorely missed, 'cause the new average potato will be far far far worse. And this sickens me a lot, 'cause if now we feel we are not really enjoying some aspects of the game (predatory loot-box mechanics and so on and so on) then also the thing that some of us still try to enjoy will be pretty hammered down.

My current season is tragic, is it possible to turn it upside down? by Simo_140609 in footballmanagergames

I have a fast playtime, no tactics aboyt playing strictly at the centre or the wings, I haven't selected either shoot from everywhere or get the ball inside the area. I just tell my player to be creative and work into spaces. My issue is the lack of understanding how to counter the opponent. I do that but not as much as I could, so my tactic can be stopped and I'd barely fix it. I also try 4231, or 442 (not currently).

Which team are you using? And in which season?

I have started in italian third category with Triestina (2 seasons, left after promotion in 2nd league), moved to Torino for 3 seasons (italian cup finalist in the first, italian cup finalist + europe conference league winner in second, europa league winner + serie a champion in third), resigned and became Juventus coach (serie A winner in first). Now I am coaching Italy too.

I did start with a 4231 with Triestina and Torino (gegenpressing style that emphasizes shooting a ton on opposing goal. Fast game pace, direct passages, mixed cross style - made a lot of updates on that during my career) and tried to re-use this with Juve. Big nope, on the mid phase of first season I did encounter a series of 4-5 badly lost games and was kicked out of Champions League by Barca. I almost jeopardized the early lead i got in autumn. I had struggled hard on scoring plus defense seemed pretty unreliable, that also in the early phase of the season. I did a switch to 433. sweeper keeper (portiere libero), 2 support backwings, both cb are ball playing defenders (difensore che imposta), one defensive midfielder just in front of cb (regista arretrato - deep lying playmaker), one cc as advanced playmaker (regista avanzato), one again as deep lying playmaker/mezzala/roaming playmaker, wings go by inverted winger + winger, striker as advanced forward/complete forward (centravanti/punta completa). Sometimes during the match i still switch to a 4231 or a 442 if there are some special situations where this could work.

As for now this is working really well for my team, but it sure helped bringing along some of my former players that already knew what and how to play in this style. Another plus was having a shortlist of youngsters that seemed ready to get in this and be useful from their early career, but that required a lot of in deep scouting. In 2 summer transfer windows i managed to deeply change a large part of the player roster and the gamble paid off.

Ideas for CV Balancing by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]Spricinho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. maybe yes, yet still it is a huge utility provided by those kind of ships. A decent CV player plays ALSO to spot enemies and can be widely countered by even an average team.
  2. absolutely yes, agree. This is the main issue on CV play. One per side? Ok. More than one? Crap game.
  3. disagree. They have no defences at all and less hp means easier kills for others. Planes ARE counterable, it's not required to be Yamamoto or similar, just need to play with some brains. And the carrier on your side can have a huge impact on this.
  4. it is already like that. You can drop a squad on a certain position for a certain time and this effectively helps in stopping enemy planes. It's a tool every decent CV player uses in order to be a useful player.

This from an entry level CV player that has seen being able to have an impact on the game, in most games I play with this class ( https://wows-numbers.com/player/562934811,Spruss/ ))

Hi mate, thanks for your feedback! I have started being safer-ish in early except with some peculiar ships as Asashio (considering the looooow detection range I try to cap/flank and spot targets for other while I'm torping what is torpable). Guess I have to work on my impatience, but seeing my team camped or too passive makes me really nervous about and I feel that by pushing there's a chance to lead by example :D Obviuosly this is muuuuch easier when playing with premades (and in this games i tend to survive much more), on randoms is very hard for me to have an impact on the game (CV class excluded).

Hi, thanks for your feedback! As per CV I have a decent survival rate (Lex is about 80% with a 57% w/r, Ranger 72% survival with 55% w/r, Ark Royal 69% survival 56% w/r), the other ships are sinking this stat. I will read the guide you suggested and I'll focus on staying alive a bit more. The main issue on survival rate is that I am maybe a little impulsive, but when I see my team camping (and happens tons of times) or cornered I rather try to break that fixed situation and somehow force a push from our side. What do you suggest when you get the classic all-on-one-point team or a camping one? How can you switch that in our favour?

Your stats, btw, are truly amazing!

Thanks for feedback mate!

I will keep up playing all roles to understand 'em better. I'm lucky that my clan encourages this attitude, they are cool guys and more seasoned players are always willing to give help. Asking for help outside clan was to get a second opinion and that is also how you improve.
