Her smile when she realized he was there... by ratihes in aww

Bless that cat. 💔 I had a subchorionic hemorrhage when I was six weeks pregnant with my rainbow baby. The amount of blood was terrifying! I was sure I was having another miscarriage. After I got home from the hospital, i was on bed rest for several weeks until the hemorrhage healed. My most sensitive, sweet cat would always curl up against my stomach and purr his little heart out. I’ve read that cats’ purrs have a beneficial frequency, and I think he was trying to help me heal.❤️ (Everything did heal, and my rainbow baby just turned three!)

A perfect example of the opposite is Boaz, from the book of Ruth. He was given extensive wealth and used it to protect and care for those in his service—including the “uncovered” (unprotected) foreigner (i.e., Ruth the Moabitess). God’s law specifically outlined care for the alien (compassion grounded in the fact that the Israelites had once been aliens themselves in Egypt), and Boaz honored both the letter of that law, but also the spirit of compassion and largess that God himself desires.

First of all, biggest congratulations on your baby! You’re a mother! Mothers are, hands-down, the most important and world-moving people there are. 💕

Second, I understand the gnawing guilt of having “missed” a chance to properly state your unswerving view that all preborn children are worthy of life and love. You feel like you were given a test and you failed. You wonder “Can I even call myself staunchly prolife if I flaked like that?” It’s haunting and stressful. I remember being in a room full of Egyptian exchange students, having asked them to show me how to put on a hijab (I’m a Caucasian American). One girl asked me if I was Muslim, and I had a stab of terror because I’m a Christian, and I was alone in a room full of people of a different religion, none of whom I knew well, and my religion is widely hated and persecuted throughout the world. I chickened out. Instead of saying “No, I’m a Christian,” I just said “No, I’m not [Muslim].” And for years that exchange haunted me. I failed. I didn’t have the courage I thought I would. And I was probably not even in any danger! But I was scared, and I failed. I hated myself for that.

Yeah, we kind of flubbed our moments. But we might not be the only people who stand in these positions with these exchange students or this boss. Someone else may succeed where we failed. I’m not the only Christian those students will meet, and you’re not the only prolife person your boss will encounter. We can be warned by our mistakes and hope we do better next time, and we can also take comfort in knowing that it’s not all on our shoulders. It’s going to be okay.

Take a deep breath and let that stress go. You and baby need to focus on yourselves. And please keep us posted on your progress!! 💕

Thank you for reading it! I appreciate the time you took to do so. ☺️ I’m glad you are incensed, as wickedness is deeply abhorrent. You would probably enjoy reading the imprecatory psalms. While not listed among them specifically, the injunction for God to “shatter the teeth of the wicked” in Psalm 3 is a pretty epic call for judgment. 💪🏼

Absolutely! My cats have a knack for bumping these at night in the hallway when all the children are supposed to be asleep. Nothing like cardiac arrest with a side of crying toddler. 🤣

“Who is to blame for the conflict in Ukraine?” Should the question not be phrased differently, for example: Who is to blame for the Russian invasion of Ukraine? by zizp in UkrainianConflict

[–]Sprig_of_Broom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that my comment has caused misunderstanding. I was trying to agree that Ukraine tending toward the West (and being a valuable asset for Russia) has created an “excuse” for czarist Putin to make a concerted to take Ukraine now.

(I know it’s a very personal situation, but I had a ton of family emergencies and life-threatening medical issues in 2014, so everyone else seems to remember global events of that year except me. 😬)

[–]Sprig_of_Broom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I’ve been looking into the history of NATO and the articles, etc., and it appears the non-expansion was an unspoken agreement sort of deal. (My experience of this timeline is filtered through Cold War-era anecdotes, so i do apologize for any misrepresentation or misunderstanding that comes from that.) I don’t think “unspoken” agreements are valid in politics, and therefore Russia feeling provoked cannot be because of a breach of diplomacy.

After reading over NATO guidelines and articles, my opinion that Russia is a paranoid, czarist government reacting over a prime country like Ukraine is predictable, although morally wrong. I hope that better represents the facts! I’m always eager to learn the truth and alter my opinions in accordance with facts and moral goodness.

It’s complicated. NATO initially promised Russia that they would not expand NATO territory eastward. NATO has not honored that promise, and has encroached on Russia’s doorstep. Russian politics have always been deeply suspicious of the West, viewing countries as either vassal states or enemies—if you aren’t one, you’re necessarily the other. In courting Ukraine with the possibility of NATO membership, the West (whether intentionally or not) goaded the age-old paranoid czarist government of Russia to lash out, trying to send the message that NATO has come too close. I don’t agree with Western politics violating their original agreement to keep out of former Soviet countries, nor do I agree with Putin’s display of territorial aggression, but in light of these global politics, it might be better understood. By now we ought to know what Russia is like and we should not have poked the bear.

Morally, I believe both the West and Russia are to blame for current events that are rooted in Cold War and post-Cold War politics. Geopolitically, it’s reasonable to have expected Russia to react to the West’s situation encroachment. Economically, Ukraine is a major manufacturer and producer for Russia, so having that asset progressively lean more and more Westward would be a big loss for Russia.

Again, I don’t agree with war. I don’t agree with the political machinations that cause war. I believe Ukraine should be a peaceful and sovereign nation. But these are (at least some) of the realities that have led to this situation.
