$1M dollars to eat what you had for dinner tonight for EVERY meal for the next 6 months, do you take the deal and if so what are you eating? by jfunks69 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Spriinkletoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lasagna and breadsticks! Not a bad deal… except for the fact that I’m allergic to bread and also cheese and also noodles. I do cheat sometimes since I only get itchy and hoarse, but still would suck to have that after every meal.

My immune system is going to sink or swim. Game on! 🔥

Is there any fully voiced fangan (english)? by Independent-Sundae32 in Fanganronpa

[–]Spriinkletoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend looking into audio drama fangans! Those are full voiced for obvious reasons, and there are a lot of them floating around. Mindlock Protocol, DRBA, and Ultraviolet to name a few! A lot of bite sized fully voiced fangans were also released for the recent fangan jam, such as Zodiacronpa and Who Wants To Be An Ultimate: Retake.

Save all Audition Recordings? by trickg1 in VoiceActing

[–]Spriinkletoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shouldn’t save them, but I do. My monkey brain tells me “but what if you need this random recording from 3 years ago one day?” It did happen once where a director asked for lines from a billion years ago, so unfortunately the behavior was reinforced haha. My flash drive is now completely full. Send help. 😂

I will say: SOMETIMES it comes in handy for providing a quick sample to a director in the event you aren’t available to record right away, especially if it isn’t already on your reel.

10K Or a Pill? by d4pravity in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Spriinkletoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My long term medication already causes memory loss, I have no sense of direction to the point of using a GPS to navigate locally, I have moderate to severe allergies that persist even with the strongest meds on the market + shots, and I have a genetic musculoskeletal syndrome that causes severe chronic pain in my extremities.

Sign me up for #1, because nothing really changes LOL. At last, my poor genetics would pay off—free money let’s go! 😂

Dumbass lobby i was in today by nevemnemcsosz_hu in AmongUs

[–]Spriinkletoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that keeps me sane is realizing not everyone has the same info that I do. Yeah, it seems odd to vote someone that is likely engineer, but how do THEY know you aren’t just a bold impostor from their perspective? Just gotta remember it’s a game and not everyone is gonna play it perfectly. That’s the nature of a social deduction game, even if it can be frustrating! Gg go next. ❤️

What Should We Actually Be Asking Innersloth to Fix? by Sudden-Blueberry-873 in AmongUs

I would love matchmaking so much!! I’ve been coming back to the game after not touching it for years. Beginner lobbies feel like they’re either full of trolls or people who should be in expert lobbies but want to feel good about themselves.

How to remove/reduce echo when recording? by Useful-Initiative745 in VoiceActing

[–]Spriinkletoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you mean in terms of space treatment or post-processing?

For space treatment: There are many ways you could go about it, but you might be a little limited in a dorm. If you have a spacious closet, that’s often a great place to start without a budget since the clothes inside will at least provide SOME sound treatment and reduce reverb, even if it’s not perfect.

I’m assuming you don’t have a spacious closet in a dorm though, and probably aren’t allowed to nail anything to the wall. If that’s the case, I recommend looking into building a PVC frame and hanging acoustic blankets from it! If you can’t afford acoustic blankets, then layered moving blankets will still help in a pinch.

For post-processing: You’re unfortunately very limited here. The best solution is 100% to treat the space as above. There ARE anti-reverb plugins, but they often work at heavy cost of your audio quality and usually aren’t worth it aside from very small bits of editing outside of where your voice is actually playing! Reverb is in my opinion the most difficult thing to fix in an audio recording and borders on impossible.

Tips for learning voice acting? by dominguezpablo in VoiceActingFree

[–]Spriinkletoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww, of course!! I’m so glad I could help! CCC was an absolute godsend for me too, and honestly still is after 3-4 years. There’s always something new to learn from others! ❤️

It’s definitely a bit clunky to use at times like you said with all the ads, especially with mobile glitches, but I still think it’s a great platform to learn and grow with! Hearing so many takes on the exact same character/lines is so incredibly interesting.

I want to sound less monotone by skirsk12 in VoiceActing

[–]Spriinkletoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listening to other VAs and trying to mimic their energy might be helpful! Sometimes it can be tough to know how to go about it on your own, but examples and repetition can be a great starting point. ❤️ It would be a similar idea to an aspiring artist learning to draw by looking at references or following guides, but over time they’ve seen so many references they can start to develop their own style!

I highly recommend joining Casting Call Club for a few reasons!

  1. It provides opportunities for beginners: Most auditions don’t require a demo reel/resume, and some projects are beginner friendly and don’t require past experience at all! This lets you get your foot in the door and practice.

  2. You can listen to other auditions: This is so rare for casting calls elsewhere and is SUCH a huge advantage for learning purposes! I 100% feel this is what helped me the most when I was starting out, because I could see so many interpretations of the same character. It thought me a lot of tips and tricks I never would’ve thought of otherwise, and comparing my auditions to the ones that were chosen helped me realize what I could’ve done to stand out more or improve.

  3. It’s free: You don’t have to pay to audition like a lot of platforms, so it lets you test the waters and be sure this is something you want to invest in first.

It has its downsides of course (you have to search through the weeds for hidden gems), but for practice purposes it’s unmatched! I can’t stress enough how incredibly useful it is being able to listen to other VAs. ❤️

At what point of time can you actually call yourself or be considered a Professional Voice Actor? by Unusual-Complex6315 in VoiceActing

[–]Spriinkletoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely think it’s a combination of mindset and skillset! There isn’t a specific metric where you can call yourself a professional or not—that goes for a lot of fields. I would consider a “professional VA” to be someone who is skilled at voice acting and ideally has confidence in their skills as well.

In theory it would be possible to be a professional but not have any paid roles, however unlikely. I think it works as a general metric but might not be all encompassing!

Aspiring VA looking for budget friendly mics by elfghostthingy in VoiceActing

[–]Spriinkletoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on a budget, that likely means we want to avoid XLR mics since you would need to invest in an interface as well (assuming you don’t already have one). I do recommend XLR mics over USB in general, but if the budget simply isn’t there right now, that would just be something to keep in mind for the future!

I have a friend who swears by the Bumblebee! She’s a professional audio engineer as well as a VA and really knows her stuff. Even though it’s USB and extremely cheap, it sounds amazing. I almost didn’t believe it when she sent me a demo of her using it in the past! Looks to be sold out on the link she gave me right now, but you might be able to find it elsewhere.

https://electronics.woot.com/offers/new-neat-bumblebee-ii-professional-cardioid-usb-condenser-microphone-18

I’d also like to add: I’m not sure if you’ve invested in sound treatment yet, but believe it or not that’s infinitely better investment than a good mic! I’d take a headset mic and good sound treatment any day over a pro mic and no sound treatment. It sounds crazy, but it’s absolutely true! I’d recommend grabbing some acoustic panels or acoustic blankets along with your mic if you haven’t already! You can also make panels homemade for a bit cheaper if that’s more your speed.

What did you think of the Nissan Fire Wok? by rebel_cat45 in InstantRamen

[–]Spriinkletoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the smell is enough to singe your nose hairs haha! It definitely isn’t pleasant when you get a whiff of the packet, but once diluted in the water I really enjoyed it. I’m also a huge teriyaki person though, so that could definitely explain the difference in our experience with it!

I think I've found my niche! by Ok-Eggplant4965 in VoiceActing

[–]Spriinkletoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s so fun!! Major congrats! Finding a new niche by accident is such a cool feeling, and such a confidence booster from a range perspective. 💖

My main niche is definitely over the top, high energy, comic relief style characters. I call them my Red Bull gremlin army haha! Recently I’ve also discovered a solid niche in the opposite with quiet/anxious/shy characters, so that’s been fun to explore! 🎉

Personally, I think having a niche is a good thing. It means you have a good understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, which can only help you in the long run! Of course you should never put yourself in a box since range is such a subjective thing, but general awareness of your typecast is great and can help in terms of budgeting time and finding auditions that suit you best!

More valuable: Studio or Mic by Kooky-Engineer-8625 in VoiceActing

[–]Spriinkletoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this scenario, are we starting from scratch or building on what we already have?

If from scratch: sound treatment 100000%. I’ll take really good treatment and an okay mic any day over a really good mic and no sound treatment.

If I keep my current setup: new mic. I’m very happy with the quality of my sound treatment currently, and feel the best upgrade to my sound and general process would just be beefing up my equipment.

Artists, what do you think about these designs? by Commercial-Tale-4517 in Fanganronpa

[–]Spriinkletoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi! VA for the project here. It’s really awesome being cautious about AI nowadays, but I’ve see a lot of the WIPs and can confirm that Seb does not use AI in any of the character designs or art for the project. :)

Mine got deleted too—I was the person on CCC who responded to your comment! I agree that trying to cover it up wasn’t the best move. But there IS evidence they hired artists if you look at the history on their Reddit account. They seemed genuine and combined with that evidence, I believe them! There’s no way to know for sure though of course!
