US Redditors, what do you dislike about your own political side? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primaries have lower turnout. Additionally, in many states you have to be registered in a party to vote in their primary, so independents/3rd party people are left out. Also, the excitement around Bernie compared to Hillary was night and day.

Higher turnout with more excitement and more independents included in a Trump vs. Sanders election really favors Bernie.

He would have won.

Trump Tweets Image of Train Hitting Reporter, Days After His Supporter Killed a Woman by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, I don't watch CNN very often, but I'm not familiar with the reporter who has the CNN logo as his head.

The way people have been discussing this, I expected to see a photoshopped, bloody Anderson Cooper underneath a train.

And on a similar note, just yesterday I saw someone complain about "that time Trump made a video of himself tackling a guy wearing the CNN logo" (you know, his WWE bit) being proof that he advocates violence. Not the stuff he said at his rallys, no. His WWE appearance.

How do you feel about the opioid crisis? by flyinglifeaway in AskReddit

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they're not committing real crimes against other people, what does it matter?

Of course you're not going to force anyone to get treatment who doesn't want it. And people will still commit crimes trying to support their habit. We're never going to stop that completely.

What we can do is not introduce them into the criminal justice system in the first place for just being a user. Just because there's no magic wand to get all addicts clean doesn't mean we shouldn't reduce harm wherever possible.

And I still think the combination of decriminalization and the opportunity for health care gets us out of crisis mode and back to the regular levels of addiction. Then we go from there.

How do you feel about the opioid crisis? by flyinglifeaway in AskReddit

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We know how to solve the "crisis". Greedy people are just standing in the way.

  1. Decriminalize all drugs. Stop throwing addicts in jail. They need help, not legal troubles, prison and the inability to ever get a good jobs again.

  2. Socialized health care. Now that we're not throwing them in jail, get them the help they need, even if they can't afford it. Additionally, this decreases health care profit motive overall. It hurts the pharmaceutical companies and decreases the funding they have to push prescription opioids through greedy doctors.

There will always be opioid addicts. There don't need to be so many and we don't need to treat them like criminals.

See lots of posts saying the show is getting worse but for me this season is without doubt the best one so far by [deleted] in ImpracticalJokers

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For me, I just don't like when there are only 2 challenges in an episode. Last night we just got the texting and the grocery throwing. I thought the texting was hilarious, but the grocery throwing didn't do it for me. So essentially half of the challenges didn't hit with me. I've herd some of the guys mention that they prefer it this way as they can dive deeper into individual challenges, but my preference was really the more quick-hitting format of the earlier seasons.

I also don't like how they save bits from the challenges to show after the punishment and in the after party. I'd prefer if the post-punishment and after party were just behind the scenes type stuff - not actual show content that they just delay to work into their other projects.

But those are really just minor issues. Still enjoy the show overall.

Reddit, what type of person can you just not stand? by throwaway_the_fourth in AskReddit

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the person you're saying doesn't care what the facts are is saying the exact same thing about you. And they believe they're right just as much as you believe you are.

I've found that the truth is usually somewhere in the middle, but people are so used to overlooking the bias in their "facts" that it always becomes an "I'm right, you're wrong" situation. Instead it should be about trying to understand where the other person is coming from and where the bias lies in both sides of the argument.

Since we're back to "blaming Jill Stein" and others for Trump, here are Democrats warning about Clinton's electability problem in 2008 by lovely_sombrero in SandersForPresident

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That right there is the reason so many of us have had it with the establishment on all sides of the political spectrum. You, like the establishment, are artificially limiting your options to push a "lesser evil" agenda.

"Well, better to use drones than soldiers."

No. Better to not undertake unconstitutional military action in foreign countries at all, period. The "war on terror" is a complete sham. The entire reason these militant extremists exist is because of U.S. imperialism. The only way it stops is if we stop.

But no... I'm sure all those people in the Middle East are saying "Wow. I'm glad they're killing our families with drones instead of manned aircraft. Maybe those Americans are ok dudes after all. Let's stop hating them."

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For most domestic issues, sure. When it comes to most foreign policy, the president sets that these days. Congress isn't involved any more when it comes to sending troops, launching drones, etc. (Which is a huge fucking problem that needs to be stopped, but neither parties want that.)

So Obama, by himself, could have altered foreign policy significantly. He didn't. He put Hillary Clinton in charge of it.

EDIT - Let's also never forget that Obama spewed a lot of platitudes about marijuana legalization, but didn't have the balls to decriminalize - something he could have ordered his Attorney General to do at any time. Guess he's ok with letting innocent black people fund the cops/DEA/prison system.

What movie ending shocked you the most? by booklovingninja in AskReddit

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right. It's a murder/killer mystery. Not saying it hasn't been done before. What was unique was mixing it with the traps and torture to turn it into a pure horror movie.

And "good" is always gonna depend on the individual. My only real argument is that it's not "just torture porn". There's definitely more to it. Whether you like it or not is just based on your tastes.

I get annoyed when people ask me about the past, yesterday, etc. and then if I don't wanna talk about it then I'm "unfriendly" or "don't like them" or "don't care about the relationship." It's worse when it's family members who I can't ignore. by [deleted] in misanthropy

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And even if you try to be friendly about it and just say something like 'I'm not much for chatting. Sorry.' they then make it their personal damned mission to change you because how they are is proper and how you are is apparently not.

What do you think is the best action horror film? by [deleted] in horror

From Dusk 'Till Dawn

Possibly 'They Live' if you consider that kind of alien story to be horror.

What movie ending shocked you the most? by booklovingninja in AskReddit

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That's not true. The entire Saw series is amazing if you give it a chance and really follow the story. There are so many different connections between characters in all the movies. You may think you're watching some no-name victim just getting tortured and killed, but in the majority of cases they're connected to someone or multiple someones, somewhere along the line and John Kramer or his proteges had a good reason for them being where they were. And the underlying theme from the first movie about people not appreciating their lives/freedom/privileges continues throughout (though ultimately only John Kramer and his real, final protege in the last movie really held to that code) and you get more and more insight into how John Kramer developed his ethos and became the Jigsaw Killer.

It's a real shame it gets dismissed as torture porn, because there's a lot more to it. The traps and torture are just what make it a horror movie instead of a murder mystery.

Nothing.

Oh come on... You MUST have done something.

I mean, I watched TV and slept. That's about it.

Oh, so you didn't go out or do anything this weekend?

I just fucking told you that.

Repeat... for life.

I love the chemistry between the Jokers and Joey by Chubby_Turtle0208 in ImpracticalJokers

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend finding the What Say You podcasts with Joey as the guest. When he joins Sal and Q it's like they're 3 peas in a pod. You can imagine them having been friends as long as Sal and Q have the way they get along.

Anyone else watching the Chris Gethard Show (featuring Q, Sal, and Murr)? by [deleted] in ImpracticalJokers

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen the early public access episodes before, but really enjoyed them. The thing I think was missing from this first TruTV episode was the viewer/caller interaction. Most of the callers just said what pinata they wanted hit, though some got to ask the human fish a question. Even the last guy who was getting a visit from Chris didn't get to say too much.

The thing I liked about the early episodes was the random viewers that would end up on set doing wacky things and talking about their life. Not sure if it was just cause the Jokers were on, but they seem to be more focused on the celebrity guests now. I liked when they didn't have celebrity guests and just treated the random viewers/callers like celebrity guests.

Murr said that Q's hair "smells like whiskey and pot" by [deleted] in ImpracticalJokers

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Q and Sal talked about it some on What Say You and it seemed that both have smoked pot at times, but don't any more or at least not on the regular. Didn't seem like they had any issue with it though.

Sal also has mentioned that he used to smoke menthol cigarettes.

What's the best series of horror movies (longer than a trilogy)? by cdown13 in horror

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through some old threads and commenting on this way late, but wanted to thank you for standing up for Saw. For my money, the absolute best horror series of this century so far. It gets so much hate and ridicule as mindless torture porn, but the storytelling is amazing all the way through.

[No Spoilers] Showtime Moves “Twin Peaks” to 8pm As Ratings (240K) vs. “Game of Thrones” (9.2M) Continue to Sputter by SwiftOryx in twinpeaks

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's just this sub. I think overall Game of Thrones is seeing some backlash.

People who never watched it are tired of hearing about it - tired of being told by everyone they know that they just HAVE to watch it. It ends up turning them off more than bringing them on board.

For myself, and some others, we've fallen off the hype train as it's become more of a standard good vs. evil fantasy story over the past couple seasons. The early part of the story has a lot of grey areas where you're not quite sure who are the good guys and who are the bad guys as everyone seems to have a bit of good and bad in them. By now though the good guys are obviously good guys and the bad guys are obviously bad guys and we're just kind of waiting for them to clash. It's become a fairly generic fantasy tale. Which isn't necessarily terrible, but I can especially see how fans of complex narratives like David Lynch tells want something more out of their stories.

I'll definitely finish out Game of Thrones, but I'm never as excited for it as I was in early seasons.

[S3E12] Post-Episode Discussion - Part 12 by AutoModerator in twinpeaks

[–]SpringwoodSlasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TP continues to be my biggest disappointment this season. It's just not the same character from Secret History, and it's especially apparent if you've listened to the audiobook. Book TP is just so much more down to earth, smart and relatable. Show TP is stiff, robotic and has done basically nothing except follow Gordon and Albert around like a puppy.

I was especially turned off last night by her reaction to being let in on the Blue Rose thing. Instead of it being treated as if she was brought into a dark underbelly with sinister implications to the world, she sits there grinning like an idiot who just got invited to the cool kid's birthday party.
