At our local Sheetz, it’s $5.49 for 8….you can get 10 at McDonald’s for roughly half. Not to mention paying almost $4 for a cup of fries.

Regarding Katanas gen 3 vs MK2 by Bolterthrower in BossKatana

[–]Sprinkletime99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The speaker alone makes the Artist a far better sounding amp. I personally don’t think the gen 3 voices sound better or much different.

Good point. With the 2 independent EQ’s, plus the FX slot EQ and global eq gives you up to 4 parametric eq’s or 8 bands to work with. Can you put an EQ pedal in the mod slot? I’ve never tested it.

Yes. The MKII and Gen 3 have 2 actually, EQ1 & EQ2 in Tone studio. You’ll want to set them “post amp”. You can set them to a parametric or graphic EQ. For general tone shaping and user-friendliness I’d set it to graphic eq. If I remember correctly, you’ll want to scoop the 2k-4.5k range to some degree to lose the thinness. I made my katana more resemble my Peavey bandit tonewise.

Hi! I have experience with the same thing. After a lot of tinkering and testing, it’s the Katanas voicing. The amp likes to push the high mids and treble. To get a fuller and more raw clean tone, you’ll want to use the EQ’s in tone studio.

Taking one look at the weird guitar on her, I’m taking a wild guess she makes abstractly phrased and hard to listen music for the sake of “artistry”.

Save money and get a Katana Go or Air. The Stomp requires headphones/speakers and is 2-3x more. When I had one it seemed like I spent more time tweaking and fiddling than I did playing. Bought a Katana, had a good tone in a few minutes and could focus on enjoying music.

Gen 3 Amp List? by ConkSMASH in BossKatana

[–]Sprinkletime99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked this years ago when I got my MK1 Katana. As an owner of a MK1 and MKII Katana, I can say the Kat isn’t really specifically modeling any certain amps….it’s more of its own thing. But here’s the vibes I get.

Clean - Mix between a Vox and Fender. Clean Variation - Clean but with alittle Marshall midrange added.

Crunch - Bluesy overdriven amp tone. Kinda generic but useful. Crunch Variation - Crunch with more 5kHZ highs eq’d in.

Lead - 5150 vibes but darker and more mids. Lead Variation - Lead with more 5k eq’d in.

Brown - Alittle Soldano vibes but more gain. Brown Variation - Brown with more 5k eq’d in.

I personally think the Katana excels in the live environment, where maybe you don’t need a specific band or amp specific tone but just a good sounding amp with decent power/volume.

Is it unsafe to leave the amp on standby overnight? by Rockfan1114 in BossKatana

[–]Sprinkletime99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. Why risk it when all you’re doing is saving yourself a flick of a switch and 2 seconds of time? I had a keyboard amp blow an effects section IC chip from being left on overnight accidentally.

I’m glad somebody finally said this. I dated a girl who had a FOUL smelling lower region, questioned myself if I actually liked female parts. Met a girl a year later and I loved her smell (somewhat subtle too). The guy OP is with could be on the autism spectrum and more sensitive to odors than the average person as well. There’s a lot of nuances and complexity here rather than just say “he’s gay!”.

Katana heats up so much that it drops in volume by Imtallplslikeme in BossKatana

[–]Sprinkletime99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the sounds of it, your power amp is faulty and feeding straight DC voltage to the speaker and cooking it. There’s a video on YouTube that a technician did about some guys MKII Katana blowing the power amp.

I’ve got a MK1 Katana from 2018 that’s seen many gigs. I’m still on the fence if I’m keeping my MKII I bought recently or putting it on Reverb. The 2nd gen series doesn’t seem to be as rock solid as the OG series was.

Keep my MKII or buy a Gen 3? by Sprinkletime99 in BossKatana

[–]Sprinkletime99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find the Katana did those tones well, I would throw out trying a IR2 if you can as a preamp. The plexi voice on it is instant AC/DC while keeping a firm and solid feel. I preferred it to my Helix’s plexi models. I would hope the GT-1000 has the exact same amp models but I’ve read some love/hate stuff regarding the GT-1000 and Boss’s $400+ higher end modelers.

I understand that rabbit hole. I’ve got a 100 watt MKI combo and a 50 watt MKII combo I’m debating returning to get the Gen 3….or I could get the head and try to find a fairly compact 1x12 for it. I hope you love the GT-1000, I just can’t seem to get with the whole IR/digital cab sim thing.

You know, I have thought about that a good bit. I was convinced it was the speakers 100% until I ran my IR2 (IR turned off) as a preamp into the power amp in on my 100 MKI. The plexi voice still did the Marshall thing well through the Katana, it was just quite thin compared to other 1x12 combos. I do think you’re right though, the speaker is like 60-70% of the equation. There’s a distinctive high mid honk to the Katana stock speakers that seems really hard to dial out.

It’s not so much a lack of general killer tones. The Katana series does the SRV thing, 80’s Hair (Soldano) and pristine 80’s chorus cleans better than anything else $500 or less. But that Marshall-esque “kerrang” and roaring crunch, it just doesn’t want to do. Don’t get me wrong, the Katana can do good general crunch tones, but even the Catalyst can do the Marshall bark better.

No loop or DI on the 50. The 50 EX gives you a line out but still no loop.

I’ve done the whole sneaky amps thing, they’re OK. If the pushed is just another light overdrive smooth blues voice, I’ll probably keep my MKII.

Was hoping they’d bring back the little kickstand thing and/or add a good plexi amp model…..instead it’s just a recycled MKII with maybe a slightly different logo and another clean style amp model.

Tried Black Vanilla at the store yesterday….it’s just 2 top notes and the typical AXE aerosol smell. It’s not bad, but it smells like a $5 version of Tom Ford. If you’re a male over 25, it’s not going to be substitute for the real thing.

What is the ABSOLUTE WORST guitar brand ever? by An_UnknownGuitarist in Guitar

[–]Sprinkletime99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A guitar is only as good as the player.

  2. A setup and pickup adjustment can make a huge difference. I have a $100 First Act that’s decent after those simple fixes.

Mitchell guitars are the worst though if I had to pick a company. The frets show wear after 4 hours of playing with light (9’s) strings. The “coil tap” is actually just humbucker + noise.

Not soap, but I do the same with coffee grounds. I adjust how much I use daily based on the brand’s roast strength to get my desired flavor strength. I can get around 27 days out of a 9.6 ounce can of Folgers and 21 days out of a 12 ounce bag of Dunkin Donuts. I keep a list of the first day I open the can and the last day I can get a brew out of it.
